    I wish I could give this a -5 stars

I purchased this device for my yoga 11, 2 and 1 laptop running Windows 10, and it has run fine for 3 years. As soon as I plugged it into my laptop it crashed and shutdown. I rebooted logged in, and plug the device and again my laptop crashed again. It will not start or boot up or anything else. I brought the device and the laptop to Best Buy they tried to tell me but they would charge me for Diagnostics. After some discussion they gave me the diagnostic service for free, my laptop is trash I will be able to get the files off of my hard drive but that's it. I spent $30 for a USB hub and trashed my laptop and receive no help from Best Buy other than to tell me I was out of luck. I will have to purchase a new computer as a replacement which will cost me around $1,000 Plus my business will be down for 2-3 days as I reload everything. Maybe others will not have the same experience but I wanted to share when I went through in the hopes I'm helping somebody else avoid going through the same thing.

I was looking for a USB hub with 4 ports without needing a power adapter and this one fit the bill. I've been using it with lower power devices such as mouse, keyboard, and DVD/BD drive and it has worked well. It is connected to a 4K monitor with USB 3.0 ports and I can easily switch between a Mac and PC and all devices on this hub work on both systems. The type of host USB port you use and the power it can supply may affect how many devices will actually work with any mobile USB hub, so keep that in mind. A USB 3.0/3.1 host port can supply more current than USB 2.0 or older.

    Simple USB 3.0 Thing

I'm mainly frustrated with this Thing as shortly after purchasing it in-store I found other Things more suited to what I need, but now I'm stuck with -this- Thing. It -does- provide some solid USB 3.0 expansion, but the short cord is a slight hindrance, and the lack of a silicone/whatever pad on the bottom doesn't make for easy placement either. That said, it became slightly more convenient by chance after noticing that the magnetic charger for my Adonit stylus actually acts to secure it to one of the metal braces on my desk. You can sorta make that out in the pic; it's dark in here. Real dark. SCARY dark.

Works fine if your computer is USB 3.0 compatible

The item works fine but you need to make sure that your computer is equipped with USB 3.0 capabilities (look for the blue color on the USB ports). If you do not have this then you are wasting your money paying the extra for 3.0 and should just purchase a 2.0 device instead since the 3.0 will only run at the 2.0 speed anyway. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that I feel that the packaging should advise customers that many people will have computers that are not USB 3.0 capable and that they should check on that prior to buying the product. I say this from experience as it cost me an extra trip back to the store to exchange it for a USB 2.0 version.

    Does the Job

This USB Hub does the job as advertised, but it doesn't look pretty doing it. The attached USB cable is short and seems to want to bend whatever way it wants to bend so when attached to my laptop it just kind of hangs there instead of sitting flat on whatever surface my laptop is sitting on. No big deal. The important part are that I got the number of USB ports I needed, at a decent price, and I have noticed any decrease in performance with accessories plugged into it. I even plugged in the dongle for my wireless mouse and have had no issues with it.

Purchased this hub in October to use with my laptop. But only 45 days later it only works intermittently. When I plug an external drive into my laptop it woks just fine (stays connected) but when I plug the hub into my laptop and then plug the external into the hub it works inconsistently (recognizing, then dropping, then recognizing, then dropping within seconds). Too late to return. I have used some other Insignia products and not had any problems but this one sucks. Will look for another brand as a replacement.

A good USB hub...for the most part

I purchased this USB hub because as a photographer, I have a good number of portable USB drives to hold my images. I needed a decent USB hub so I could have multiple external hard drives connected to my computer. This hub works well for that, provided I only plug two into it at a time. When I try to use a third USB drive with this hub, it won't stay connected and drops out after awhile. Not sure if this is just a problem with the drives drawing too much power from the hub or something else. If you are going to plug in multiple high power drawing devices, I would suggest skipping this hub and getting one that is powered.

This is our second and same unit. The first one is connected to our desktop computer and was needed as we had run out of ports on this computer. We no longer have to unplug one device to use another one temporarily. Now everything stays plugged in and ready to use. I installed this second one into a power strip connected on the floor next to my bed and nightstand. I can now charge different devices overnight as I sleep including a cellphone, a watch and a tablet.

My rating is simply based on what I see and not knowing if it is working as it should. With only 1 USB port, I needed the ability to have multiple ports. I wanted to added an external keyboard, a DVD player and occasionally add a USB thumb drive. This accomplishes all of this but I occasionally get messages indicated that something plugged into the USB HUB was not recognized. However, everything seem to be working just fine. So, I have been confused with some of the messages the computer has been providing me with regards to the use of the HUB. But, it has been working.

    Handy Device to Have

I purchased 2 of the Insignia™ - 4-Port USB 3.0 Hubs because I have a laptop with only 2 USB ports and am unable to use a mouse, keyboard, and charge my iPhone, as well as a Mac Mini which has less USB ports than I need. This device works well on both computers and even sends power to my iPhone, allowing it to charge (I wasn't sure it would since it doesn't use a power cord to power the device). The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I think the cable to plug it into the computer could be a couple of inches longer - it's pretty short (around 3-4 inches).

Great for Data Transfer, slow for charging....

Depending on your purpose for multiple USB ports, it can either be really good or a hindrance. I bought this product originally thinking it would be able to charge things reasonably quick but I was lucky if it could charge my phone overnight. Data transfers area complete different story though, using a device through the hub rarely has a problem if any. Also the material is plastic but still feels and is rather tough to natural wear and tear. But if you are looking for something to charge your device get something that needs a power source of its own.

i bought this to add usb ports to my new macbook pro 15 with touch bar. for normal task etc connecting a printer or a hard drive it appears to operate normal. not sure if that is the case for a usb device that requires power from usb. my MacBook pro has frozen multiple times when i connect a usb sound card thru this device. i am not sure if its the device's fault. but when i bypass this usb hub with that sound card the computer behaves normally. so thats my only gripe with this unit which is very inexpensive...

I purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro, which I love, but I only has one USB port so I needed a USB Port Hub to expand the number of USBs I could use with my computer (i.e. external hard drive, track ball). This one provides me with 4 USB Ports, it's small and very portable. I didn't want something big or that required me to plug it into a wall outlet to work. If you're looking for a portable USB Hub this will do a great job for you and NOT break the bank.

I needed a USB Hub without an additional power source and chose this one. It does exactly what it's described to do and was able to handle all 4 ports in use without significantly slowing down my computer. The only complaint is how awkward the cord is. It's too short so just hangs strangely from the back of my computer and sometimes unplugs itself if I plug in anything too heavy. Otherwise works fine.

Insignia - 4-port Usb 3.0 Hub works fine

The Insignia - 4-port Usb 3.0 Hublocked works fine. I wish, however, that there was an option to keep attached external drives from going into sleep mode until ejected or via some manual sleep/wake toggle. This option would override power saving features built in many external drives' firmware. The sleep mode cause issues at times, thus would like more control via the hub. Sometimes I have to physically reconnect the external device to this hub, after the device goes into sleep mode.

For the price of this usb hub for 3.0 data transfer speed you can’t go wrong. Worked perfectly for my pc that had two USB ports fried. The big brother to this device is twice the price and comes with a power supply which is not convenient. This one I bought is powered by the computer itself so no need for an additional power source. I’m going back next week for another one for my acre predator

I purchased this as BB only had a few options for multi-USB hub options (USB 3.0). This replaced a powered Insignia 4 port USB 3.0 hub. That hub stopped working when the power was connected. This non-powered hub had a port stop working approximately 6 weeks after purchase. I use all 4 ports and three now work. I have now owned two Insignia 4-port USB hubs and both have become defective.

I have 5 backup disks for my iMac -- ranging from a 2TB to an 8TB. The backups use USB 3 connectors. I needed a way to connect all the backups and yet still have a couple USB 3 ports available on my iMac. This gave me an excellent way to use only one of my USB 3 ports on the back of my iMac while at the same time connecting 4 of my backup disks. I wish I had picked up this USB 3 Hub a year ago! This USB Hub doesn't even need a power supply.

I got this item for 1 reason. To plug in my K95 dual USB plug Keyboard. Normally you only need to use 1 USB port to hook up your KB. But this one has 18 "G" memory keys and RGB 1.1 mil. color backlighting. So I plug in both of my Keyboard's USB connectors and a Memory Stick to hold and run the Software for the Keyboard. I then can move my KB from my laptop and Desktop Tower. and not lose my KB Software setting and etc. I work great for this.

Purchased this for use mostly with MacBook Air but will also use for ancient HP Mini Laptop. Easy and efficient to use -- inserts easily into USB port and the 4 hub ports provide exceptional versatility. Use it to connect and use Logitech infrared Mouse as well as USB drives (for both documents and photographs). All of the ports work well and easily. Fits well on cluttered tabletop. Excellent quality for very low price.
