I got this at an amazing price (one of those 4-hour deals)...40" HDTV for the price of a computer monitor. Needed to upgrade a smaller TV, and this was a great way to do that. Mostly for my kid and his PS4. Picture isn't as good as I thought it would be for a HDTV, but the color is very good, very vivid. Sound out of the speakers is also pretty good. The initial set-up screen is also very user-friendly. Also, didn't even have to program my DirecTV remote for this TV. It controls the TV right out of the box. Fits into an area that I didn't think a 40" TV would fit. Hey, for the price I got it at ($164), I'm very satisfied.

Awesome LED TV This Insignia 40" DLED (Direct Lit LED) HDTV model: NS-40D 420NA16 puts out an AWESOME clear and detailed picture with deep vivid color. That's great for a LED TV that was the cheapest for its size and I had 3 Best Buy Reward Certificates that totaled 25 dollars :) Everything was fine, except one small problem (that has nothing to do with the tv) - - - - I am using a Comcast Motorola HD cable box that I know outputs 1080p resolution and I connected it with an HDMI cable . . . but when I push the Info button on the TV remote, the display on the screen would only show 720p instead of 1080i. (note: Comcast doesn't broadcast any channel in 1080p, yet. Only 1080i) SOLUTION : You need to go into the secret settings for your Cable Box and change the output to 1080i - - - - This is how you do it: (note: I'm using the big silver remote with the grey "center" OK-Select button, some have a red "center" button) 1) If you have Comcast, you need to program your remote to work with your new TV so the volume and other buttons will work. Go here: http://customer.comcast.com/remotes/ 2) Have the TV and Cable Box on. On the remote press: the "cable" button and then press: the "power" button to turn the cable box off. 3) Press the "Menu" button . . . and in a few seconds you'll get a white User Settings menu screen, using the up, down, left, right arrow buttons, you can navigate and press the right arrow key to change the settings on the menu item you are on. 4) These are the settings you want: - TV Type = 16:9 - HDMI/YPbPr Output = 1080i - 4:3 Override = Stretch - Stretch Graphics = Disabled In Additional HDMI settings - > > > HDMI/DVI Mode = HDMI-User > Color Space = YCC 4:4:4 > Audio Output = Auto > Lip Sync = Auto > 1080p Pass-Through = On 5) When you're done, press the power button to get out of the menu and then press the power button again to turn on the cable box. 6) If you lose power to the cable box (in the event of a power outage), you may need to change the settings again.

Everything works great with no problems and I've been using this TV for about two months now. I used it for regular cable tv, gaming, and as a secondary screen for my laptop. No issues whatsoever, clear sound and picture quality. I couldn't ask for me for the price I got this 40 inch for! Great value indeed.

I helped my mother purchase this TV, she is not too tech savvy so I wanted to help. She wanted a good TV for a reasonable price, didn't want extra big or extra fancy. What we found in this TV worked perfectly, price, size and quality were exactly what she was looking for and this TV was the perfect match!

I bought this tv about 2 months ago for our bedroom and it's perfect. I got a high def cable box and hdmi cable from my provider and the set up wad simple. The tv has plenty of volume and the picture quality is great. I'm not tech savvy but for the price this tv is awesome and I thought it was a good deal. I bought it online and went down to my local best buy and picked it right up and an associate helped me put it in my truck.

You would think that the off brand TV's like Insignia would give you something to complain about. So far, I have no complaints. At this price range and size this is probably the best TV you could by in the market. Doesn't have any fancy features, and it is lacking a bit in the connection department, but the picture is pretty good. I'm actually sad that the picture looks better than my Dell Ultrasharp monitors in certain situations. The back lighting is pretty uniform and you don't notice any weird light bleed issues. - TV is bulky, but because of that it had room to put some speakers that have a lot of clarity. Lots of thinner TVs can't compare to this sound. - Contrast ratio is great. Have no issue watching TV with the sun beaming down on to it. - Colors are not as vivid as a high end TV but you do get the some of the sharpness. - The gf loves that I didn't spend a load of money on it. I bought a 2 year extended warranty and the TV for less than the similar Samsung model. - Doesn't have VGA, I guess it's time to get rid of those old laptops.

As a non-expert with a small budget looking for a good TV for a small apartment, I think this Insignia TV provides all I need. The setup was quick and easy. I bought this TV to replace the older model Insignia which stopped working after about two years. Two years is a short service life and we know the game where you pay more for repairs than you will for a new replacements. Given that reality, buying the equivalent model and a 5-year guaranteed free replacement contract made sense because the 5-year replacement warranty still made the new model less expensive than the previously purchased TV. I'm old enough that I can say I spent most of my life watching the old electronic tube TVs. Improvement with the HD TVs was worth the wait. I would recommend this TV for anyone who isn't a devotee of "the best" - this TV is really good enough for most of us.

This tv is great for nearly any room in a house. It's a perfect size, and has great quality. I haven't experienced any problems whatsoever, and I love the product. You may have to mess with the settings a bit to get the best personal viewing experience possible, but it is still up there with other brands in quality, and it beats them in pricing. Definite buy!

first off I have a 32" Insignia TV for my kids to watch videos and play their video games on and the quality was good for the use it gets. So I decided to try out a bigger one for my parents for X-mas. I bought it Via BB website I got a pre black Friday deal e-mail and decided to purchase it. I ordered it and 2 days later it was at my front door and the box wasn't even damaged A+ on that. no on to the TV it's self. nice for the price that was the big draw. they still had a picture tube TV so an flat panel TV is an upgrade! easy install it has 2 HDMI inputs the remote is very clean and simple layout that my 70 year old + parents can use with out a issue. the picture quality is good and the sound quality is OK as well. so over all not a bad purchase Just hope the TV lasts over time. We have only had ours for about 6 month with out an issue yet.

Extremely easy set up, and is exactly what you would want it to be - a 40" 1080p HDTV. Not sure what there is to complain about. It's sleek, looks as good as 99% of the other 1080p TVs out there, set up is very easy, the menu is actually very easy to use relative to other TV menus with which I've wrangled in my day, and it's easy to set up on it's own stand or with a wall mount. If you're concerned about input lag for gaming, don't worry about it. You can easily set your gaming HDMI input to always have the display set on Game mode, which cuts out a lot of the post-processing responsible for input lag. I haven't had any issues. My one and only complaint would be the single red LED light at the bottom right of the TV that is always on when the TV is turned off. It doesn't really bother me, but if you keep the TV in your bedroom, and those kinds of things bother you, it might be something to consider. Easy enough to cover up, though. For this price, it's really hard to complain. It's definitely worth it.

Solid TV - Intelligent feature mix - easy set up

There are three big reasons why I chose this Insignia TV 1. Set up was quick and easy. 2. The feature mix of this and pretty much any Insignia TV is always better than the competition at any soecufuc price point. This unit is no exception. Picture, sound and features are better than the competition at this price point. I would rather pay a bit more for an Insignia than roll the dice with one of the "bargain priced" panels, I look forward to many years of solid service from this TV. 3. A brief aside - Insignia customer service is first rate. They have been really good the few times I've had an issue with on of their TVs. They responded to my e-mails and work with me to help resolve the problem. They also follow up to see if the solution they proposed worked - hold your breath here - even if the guarantee was four years out of date!

A few years ago I took a chance and bought a 55" Insignia not knowing what I was getting with a BestBuy house brand. I read reviews and bought the TV. I have never been dissappointed. So when I needed to replace my bedroom TV it was a no brainer to purchase another Insignia TV. I am completely happy with this TV the picture is sharp and clear and the cost was great. If you want a great TV without all the bells and whistles buy this one!!

Picture looks great and the light weight made it very easy to mount on the wall. Color is very vibrant and I'm impressed with the sharp image. Needs an outside sound source to really come alive....speakers just don't match the picture, but that's a minor point for most viewing.

Like many purchasing this TV the price was a factor and the TV was going to be a second TV for the bedroom. We have had one or two Insignia products in the past, (small 19" tv's and a sound bar), no complaints but this would be the first what I would call a "larger purchase". I have a 42" LG edge LED TV 1080p w/120hz refresh rate TV and have absolutely loved it and have compared all future potential TV purchases by this TV. We paid nearly 900 dollars 4 or 5 years ago for the LG and is has been worth it. Well it was Thanksgiving evening and for the first time ever I thought, later that night, well let me go check out Best Buy black Friday prices, what the heck. When I walked in the door there were about twenty of these 40" Insignia's at the front door. I had researched this TV out already and it fit the bill for a second bedroom TV, so I grabbed one at 159.00$ I couldn't go wrong at that price to try it out as if I didn't like it, I could change and put the cost towards a more expensive model, right? BTW when I had worked my way through the black Friday checkout line and made it to the register these were all gone! I have waited a month or two to write a review as I wanted real world feed back. Let me say clear crisp picture great sound for a flat screen, feature rich only one or two gripes that are VERY minor like slow switching of inputs between devices but really who cares for everything else. The set could use another HDMI input but it seems all TV's are running less of these inputs for reasons unkown to me. For the price you can't go wrong for a second set and I am a tough critic. I just hope it holds out for years to come like my LG. I am running Comcast X1 platform in 1080p and your signal coming in and your settings between devices make a difference! Some people unknowingly are not aware of the importance of matching up signal settings between input source and the output or viewing settings of the TV.... then may give inaccurate reviews of a product. Just and FYI

I was looking to upgrade to a bigger TV from my 32" to a 40" or 42" (space limitations prevented anything larger). I was looking all over the place, online and in a couple of big box stores when I got an alert from a Black Friday ad website that this TV was on sale. I read the reviews on Bestbuy.com and some other sites which were overwhelmingly positive. I found out that Insignia is Best Buy's brand (definitely a positive selling point). The best part was the price, it was about $150 less than other TVs I was looking at. I love the TV! The picture is crisp and the colors are vibrant. I have my Fire Stick hooked up to it and it's great! I'd definitely recommend this TV to anyone looking for a good quality, no frills TV.
