Insignia™ - 5.0 Cu. Ft. Chest Freezer - White Model: NS-CZ50WH6SKU: 8390036 Review: Purchased June 22, 2018 Things to take note of: After purchasing, let the unit sit upright for the good part of a day- allows cooling system fluids to properly settle. Before plugging in, make sure the freezer adjustment control is set to off. Plug the unit in any 15 amp receptacle. Do NOT use a GFCI receptacle on any freezer or refrigerator, as sudden changes in current, as when the compressor turns on and off may trip it, and say goodbye to your food. Once plugged in, adjust control to 6 o'clock (medium). This seems to be plenty cold for this unit. Check the temperature with a freezer guage, under $10 most places. The unit does come with an on indicator with a nice blue glow. Note, don't get too caught up in getting a larger freezer because it is only $20 more. Go by what you need. I can see I will almost never fill this freezer, and an empty freezer serve no purpose. I put a 25 pound turkey on the bottom, and I'm guessing I could fit five more. Perfect size and will fit in tight places; 28.75" Wide x 21" Deep x 33.5" High. Unit is quiet most of the time. A slight but noticeable hum when compressor kicks in- not a distraction. Keep in mind that all of these promotional freezers are coming off the same assembly line in China regardless of brand. Best Buy purchases container loads just like Haier/GE and Frigidaire do. That is why the models look virtually the same. It is also why availability is hot and cold. Best Buy can't simply stock these all of the time, because of changes in cost. Containers come in, and they quickly sell out, so there are delays in availability. Get one while they have them!

I’ve been looking for a small freezer to handle overflow from our main fridge/freezer. The 5 cubic foot model is a perfect size. It fit nicely into a nook in the basement. I purchased it 3 days ago from a local Best Buy. One must-have feature for me was a power light. Many small freezers in this low-price category do not have a light (Lowes, Home Depot). Oddly the Insignia floor model did not have a light, but the salesman was nice enough to pull one from the warehouse. We found that one had a power light. I agree with other posters that Insignia is not a name-brand, but it’s likely built in the same factory as major brands like Hot Point or LG. Just compare the control panel and you’ll see what I mean. This applies to most appliances these days. Other features that I’ve been impressed with are: - It’s light weight, easy to move around. - The exterior metal shell is surprising sturdy. It could easy support something stored on top. - It’s got a drain plug for defrosting - It started up fine, got down to 0 degrees in a few hours. - It’s quiet Overall, it seems to be good value. I hope this works out long term.

    Good Deal

I was able to buy this in the store and bring it home in the car. I missed the $99 sale, but the $140 price I paid is still a good deal. At the moment it is located freestanding in the front room. Since it is on the carpet, I can barely hear when it is on. We had some weather in the high 90's here, and when I got home from work in the evening I ran my hand all over the outside to see where it was warm. Seems like they use the front and rear panels to dissapate the heat. The area just below the right hinge was quite warm. I did not feel any heat coming out of the grate below it where the cord comes out, or out of the grate on the lower right side. The inside temperature was zero degrees, set at the midway position. I took another reviewers advice, and put in two plastic milk crates, one on top of the other. This also keeps the contents away from the walls, allowing more air to circulate. I mostly use the top crate, and it's easier to get to since it's up higher, and I just lift out the filled crate and close the lid when I want to rummage through the contents. The lid on my unit closes squarely and securely. I was fortunate that there was no shipping damage. One end has adjustable feet that screw in and out, but there are no wheels, so you have to pick it up or drag it. (Will Not be using it to store breast milk.)

So, this little freezer is perfect!! First off, I could pick it up as it's not super heavy, and I got it home in a SUV, so the box isn't all that huge. I plugged it in and within a few hours it was really cold. I've had this for a few months, and not only is it perfect for all things frozen, but it doesn't use that much electric. My bill was flat since I plugged this in, so in no way is it an energy hog, and I keep it on a sunroon where it gets pretty warm. Great value for a very energy efficient deep freezer! My soon to be wife and I are on the go quite a bit, so this saves us money in being able to freeze meals vs. throwing out items just because we didn't have room to freeze things. On top of all that, Best Buy service was awesome, they loaded it in the car for me and all said, I was walked in the store and drove off 15 minutes later with a freezer.

We bought this on sale online as a small secondary freezer to have in addition to our 22 cubic foot Frigidaire chest freezer that was too full. I picked it up at the store and hauled it home in the back of my old compact car station wagon, laying it on its side. I carried it into the house by myself (I'm 70+ years old) and unpacked it and left it sit upright for a day and a half (very important). I plugged it in and saw the power light come on. It runs very quietly. The temperature control was set halfway between max and min. After several hours I checked the temperature inside with my own thermometer. It was several degrees below zero Fahrenheit (very nice). We've had it over a month now and are pleased with it. It is nice and compact and fits nicely in the little space we had for it. Treat the inside lining gently so that you don't scratch it or otherwise damage it. I am very glad we bought it when we did.

I bought this freezer to toss into my garage. The idea was to be able to use it for items that were overcrowding the main freezer. To that end, this is a great little freezer - the box isn't too deep that you feel as if you may fall in when reaching to the bottom, the overall size isn't so large that I feel I'm sacrificing a parking spot for frozen burritos and it was extremely nice to have on-hand when the main freezer developed a problem and we needed to temporarily move everything. The ice cream was saved! The best part was the Best Buy home delivery - I was given advance notice of the delivery date and the driver, despite several issues*, committed to dropping things off as planned. If only all delivery services were this reliable. *The driver had problems with his truck in a rural area and spend several hours waiting for assistance. By the time he was able to resume his route, the typical SoFL sun had turned into torrential rains. And yet, my delivery was still made on the promised date. Kudos!

I bought 2 on sale, one to use right away, and one to use as a spare in case another refrigerator needs work. I would recommend reading the instructions first because there are some tips about first cleaning (wiping out) and plugging in, that I didn't follow when I started our first one. Also about re-starting if it has been unplugged. The one currently in use works fine and holds a decent amount of food. It has a quality exterior that is not too flimsy for temporary items to be placed on top of the lid. There is an exterior light so that one may see there is electricity going to it. I have had it a couple of months and the frost doesn't seem to build up quickly and the food freezes and keeps well, even though it is now "full." The freezers were not too heavy or bulky for a man and a small woman to transport and set up using a pickup truck and dolly. The freezers should remain right-side up or they can't be started immediately.

When the price dropped on this chest freezer I thought it was a really good deal. It has plenty of space to hold long term items and to free up mostly used space in our main freezer. Easy to read instructions for set up. Low maintenance is a plus. Runs quiet. Like the one shelf inside as well as the basket that can slide to either side. Stay open lid is good. The packaging was nicely designed for moving it in place and all the pieces broke away without having to use a knife. Only nitpick would be the temperature setting and info on it. There is just a min and max setting. Would have been nice to have more options or info on what is optimal. Pick up in store was a breeze and they brought it right out to my car and loaded it up. Overall the shopping experience online, the in store pickup and the product itself were and are great. We are definitely satisfied with this chest freezer.

Upon opening the unit , I noticed it was dented at the bottom right corner. There was no obvious sign of damage on the box, so I assume it was damaged at the factory. Since we keep the unit in the basement this was not a major issue. If the unit was in an area where appearance would matter I would have returned it, which would have been a hassle. Secondly ,the unit was missing two of the four height adjuster feet. This was annoying. I had to level it with wood shims. After setup the unit started right up, runs quietly and keeps food frozen as it should. Insignia needs to do a better job with quality control at the factory.

    The good, the bad...

On the good side, this product was reasonably priced, quickly available, light enough for my husband and me to lift and easy to transport home in a mid size SUV. We put it in the garage, on a GFCI outlet. It reached desired temp. in about 24 hours and we put some meat, chicken bones (for soup) and blackberries in it. On the bad side, a few days later it turned itself off. I didn't know it, and the contents were spoiled. Neither the house circuit breaker nor the GFCI tripped, so I have no idea what happened. I purchased a thermometer with an alarm and it's been O.K. for almost a month, but I'm still wary. If you need some extra freezer space I'd buy it, but I'd also spend an extra $30 and get a thermometer with an alarm.

I love this freezer it's not to huge but fits soo much. it can fits item easily for a family of 4, We bought this because we usually go to Restaurant Depot to purchase lots of meat & chicken, in the process we need lots of space and were looking out for a freezer, in a way more items than our normal freezer/ fridge didn't have nearly any room compared to this, when bestbuy came out with an awesome deal at 119$, we just clicked Buy. The Interesting Aspect is after buying from bestbuy, the representative called once to confirm the deal, and second time called to confirm the delivery, it was delivered by two bestbuy guys to my door step, they not only installed it, but guided on its proper use. The freezer's awesome, Best Buy is awesome, and i luv home delivery. this is what makes online shopping of expensive & heavy items look easy. Great going bestbuy with your deals, delivery & service.

This is exactly what we needed to hold extra frozen food without taking up too much space. It holds plenty, but was small enough for one person to load into a small SUV and carry down the steps to the basement. The basket holds smaller items and makes it easy to get large packages on the bottom. Would be great if Best Buy offered extra baskets for sale! The only minor gripe is it seems to be building up ice crystals around the seal sooner than I expected. It's not too difficult to scrape them off (only use plastic utensils to avoid damage!) especially if you keep up with it (once a week or so). It is NOT frost-free, so you will have to periodically defrost it to remove more significant ice build-up, but that's typical of a small freezer.

This compact freezer does a good job keeping things in the bottom of the freezer frozen solid if it is set at max. However, there is no setting that will freeze bread or cool whip, unless they are on the floor of the freezer and the only things inside. After two weeks in the freezer, the bread was stale and hard. Thinking that I set it up incorrectly, I emptied the freezer, unplugged it, let it sit for six hours, plugged it back in, let it cool for five hours, then replaced the food (about 1/3 to 1/2 capacity). There was no difference. The bread and cool whip are still soft. I wish we had bought another brand. The good news is that we will only be using it for a year and a half, then we will give it away.

I have owned this 5.0 cu foot freezer for about 1 month and so far so good. I originally bought a similar sizd chest freezer for a little more money from Home Depot, but returned it immediately. The reason for the return was because the power cord was located (looking straight at it) on the right corner. Having it located there without additional cord made it so that the cord could not be directly plugged into the wall outlet, but rather require the use of a power strip or extension cord that the instructions frown upon. I received a unit from Best Buy that was in excellent shape with no obvious dings, dents, or other items of disrepair. In fact, I almost forgot that the model from Home Depot had an electric plug and that the third prong just came out of the plug while the Best Buy's model was very secure.

    Bigger than appears

I had 2 refrigerator with freezers filled to the brim with frozen food. It wasn't enough space. So that's why i bought this chest freezer. It looked like it would be just enough space to hold what i needed. As i was filling it up, i noticed i haven't even used 1/2 the space yet. It was like a bottomless pit. It was bigger than appears. I needed to go to the store to buy more stuff just to fill it up. So for the price i got it for, it was a steal. It works great, easy to use, easy to clean. Even has a little basket to hold small stuff. I like to use it to put drinks in so they get cold quickly. Only problem is, that it's very deep so a bit hard to reach the bottom if you have short arms. Other then that, it's amazing.

my girlfriend and I bought this to have more room in our first apartment. I use to work at Best Buy for years and was a little skeptical about the insignia brand but to my surprise it’s a good deep freezer. We love it. The only thing that sometimes gets to me is the size. I wish I would’ve bought a little bigger one. We don’t overload it at all, but it would’ve been nice to have that extra room. If you can go to the store and check out the different sizes I’d recommend to do so. All in all it’s a good product though.

I just received $500 of wild game meat to put in this brand new freezer and the "Power-on indicator light" was out this morning, but back on again this afternoon. It's been plugged in to a working outlet, there haven't been any power outages and all set-up instructions were followed to a T. I assume a "power-on" light should be steady and always on. I also assume that a power-on light that is not functioning when there is power means I might have a defective unit. Thank you for all the useful comments. I had the store unbox the unit before I took it home to ensure there were no dents. Sounds like that is a common problem. Mine was perfect in that regard. Can't recommend yet.

We were always running out of room in our freezer, and got into the bad habit of going to the grocery store often. This allows us to stock up on meats and ice creams, the essentials. It is a good size for our needs, but we purchased baskets (elsewhere) so that we can keep it organized. The one basket that comes with it, is too small for most things I'd want to freeze. We are keeping it in a garage, that usually stays 10 degrees cooler than the outside temps, it seems to be doing well and have not noticed any moisture build up, or jump in our electric bill.

My refrigerator freezer broke and I made a rush purchase. The price was right and the shape it has fit down my narrow cellar stairs. I have used it now for about two weeks and find it works well reaching a temperature of 22 degrees F. Was pleased to find that it is light enough to carry and held more than I expected. Since it is tall and not wide it takes little floor space. The trade off, the food at the bottom is harder to reach . Perhaps you already know that it is not frost free and has to be defrosted periodically. I did not think of it. For all of this, these small inconveniences, I would buy it again.
