    Planned Obsolescence???

    If we were still in 2019 I would have given this a 5 star review. Now, two years later (I literally bought it in September 2019) the tv stopped working correctly. Must be a backlight defect. We can still hear sound when we use the remote to blindly open apps but the screen is almost 100% pitch black. As i'm searching for new tv's on here I was curious to read reviews about this TV because I was totally shocked that out of the blue I no longer have a tv that works. It's quite suspicious that many others are leaving the same kind of review in the past week or so as i'm writing this. (other reviewers are stating that after two years, their tv or more specifically their screen isn't working properly). Based on what I've learned in business class, it sounds like the company is selling tv's using "Planned Obsolescence" (this is when manufacturer's design products to fail prematurely in order to sell another product or upgrade). While it is a legal business tactic, it is unethical. A shame because I loved my TV but looks like I'll be going with a different brand.

    I bought the 55” fire tv in November 2020. It’s been a great tv, great picture, until it wasn’t. 18 months later the screen went black, still had sound but no picture, I didn’t buy a protection plan, my bad! I figured a tv should last longer than 18 months! I called Best Buy to see what they will do, they want $100 for a home repair visit, or $199 for the protection plan. So if you buy this tv I highly suggest buying the protection plan because, Best Buy won’t back their products without it. A tv should last longer than 18 months! Ridiculous I will never buy anything from Best Buy ever again.

    Not crazy about the "Fire" operating system. Too many ads to get to a "regular" TV channel. I also had a problem getting the audio to shut off after I had pressed the remote button to shut the TV down. After unplugging the TV for 24 hours, I guess it "rebooted" and so far so good. Otherwise, I like the TV fine.
