Replaced a 14 yr old Samsung plasma with this Insignia 55 4K Fire TV. I have another Insignia tv (1080p HDTV) in another room, that I’ve had for five years, and its been great. This tv, not so much. The good: Looks nice. Sound is amazing, just with the in-tv speakers. Picture clear. Screen/apps pretty straight forward to navigate as long as you have some experience navigating around streaming platforms. I use Roku for streaming, and DTV Now for “cable”. The FireTV thing seemed good, if you prefer Amazon’s platform. Says it doesn’t have Bluetooth, however I was able to connect (by BT) my Insignia sound bar (ended up not using it because the sound was better using the tv speakers, and couldn’t use both together—was one or the other, which I didn’t like). The bad: Out of the box, audio/video syncing was off, despite various efforts to fix it. I tried all the different suggestions I found on support forums, but was unsuccessful at correcting it. Apparently this is an issue with this tv. Frustrating, to say the least. I spent many hours over two days searching for ways to correct it, but nothing worked. Ended up packaging it back up and returning it to BB because of this being so bad. Also, there is no audio out jack for non-HDMI sound systems. Fortunately, as memtioned above, I was able to connect my BT soundbar, even though the tv supposedly doesn’t have BT capabilities. Not sure how reliable this will be for someone setting up wireless surround, but I suspect it will work. A wired surround won’t work, if not HDMI or digital port. Could not use sound bar in conjunction with the TV. The tv automatically stops audio output through the speakers, if the sound bar is on. Didn’t care for that, and couldn’t find a way around it. Of note, I was appreciative of the BB sales guy telling me that all the platform based TVs’ remotes do not have standard remote features like numbers, so if you’re like me and switch between streaming and live antenna TV, you may want to get a universal remote for those functions. However, the Insignia 4K TV made it easy to see the channels and select them from the home screen, so the universal remote wasn’t really necessary. Unfortunately the sync problem was too bad, that I returned the tv. FWIW: I have a brand new Netgear Nighthawk AC1750 router with an ARRIS SURFboard modem, that sits maybe 10 yards around the corner from the TV, and Spectrum cable internet. The sync problem occurred with wired-in live antenna tv, as well as streamed shows/tv; with the tv speakers, and with the soundbar; also no matter which audio setting I chose, it didn’t fix the problem. If you’re lucky enough to get one without this syncing issue, it seems it would be a good tv; but the hassle and time spent trying to correct an uncorrectable problem is not worth the risk, IMO.
