I needed a cable to connect a monitor to my laptop with a HDMI cable & this worked. The old cable I had with the monitor connected to a VGA cable & wouldn't work with this laptop. I can have a bigger screen than I used to see on my laptop.

This adapter lets me use this old junkier one i had instead st least until im ready to buy another good one

Bought a new LG 27" monitor(only had HDMI port) and my video card only had 1 mini HDMI and 1 DVI-D connection. Since the HDMI was connected to 42" Plasma Panasonic TV (also only had HDMI as option). That left me with only the DVI-D connection available. This adapter works great. I did have to do some changes in the monitor menu to get it to be recognized at first. Very sturdy construction. Due to the gold plating it makes a solid connection. Very happy with performance.
