I removed the cable and reversed end for end and got the audio back! Call me a genius. I'm not sure why this had to be done, but at the moment, the cable is working perfectly.

If you are using this for an older 1080p screen and not streaming 4k and expecting high end results it's fine. It works fine with most PC components. For hgih performance though... the cable is critical.
