Tried to cook bacon and it stopped working it started smoking

Never worked. DOA. Do not buy Insignia- It's really cheap for a reason.

I’m sorry I ever shopped at Best Buy/ all I can say is I wished I never walked into a Best Buy store my huge mistake

Did not work right out of the box. Would not turn on when I plugged it in.

Very nice for a college dorm, compact and quiet and easy to transport.

This microwave is very well designed. It is very solid sitting on my counter because of its oversized rubber feet. It is heavier than I expected (23 pounds) due to the sturdy transformer and large magnet needed for the powerful magnetron that is utilized in this compact unit. I also did very much like the secure latch that is used. When you grab the door handle you lift up one finger to release the door. I immediately preferred this design over the push button openers on many other microwaves. You will need to read the instructions to get the best use of the many features of this unit. Although the operations are intuitive, you can benefit from utilizing the built in operations that will make it a snap to do timer cooking or simply use the one touch features to defrost or set incremental cooking times. The handy manual is very well written with illustrations that make learning all the features very easy. Although this unit is just 700 watts it heated everything from a danish pastry to boiling water for tea/coffee very nicely. I do have a built-in microwave, however I keep this little wonder on the counter and end up using it for smaller reheats for example. It does have a generous-sized 10-inch turntable. I often end up using both units at the same time. Tip of my cap to the design engineers for a smart and useful addition to my kitchen. I highly recommend this nicely priced and very functional microwave.

Fantastic small microwave, perfect for a student or young adult venturing out into adulting. Not a counter-hog by any stretch, this microwave is perfectly sized for the average single portioned meal or a bag of popcorn. It's got the standard features most of today's microwaves have and seems to be decently built. It's got a good heft to it, and doesn't feel like it's going to burn out easily. Heating frozen dinners was a cinch, with the intuitive interface panel. The small heating area would make this a bad choice for larger families or people trying to re-heat a whole pizza at once, but warming up a slice or two, or a piece of chicken and a scoop of mashed potatoes would be perfectly suited for this size of appliance. If you are not a student, apartment/tiny home dweller, or elderly, this microwave would be good for a small office or basement/rec room as a secondary microwave. Again, don't expect to heat up tons of food at once, but in batches, this performs adequately. The features will meet the needs of 90% of microwave users, and the quality is there. Highly recommend.

I have been looking for a small microwave that would fit nicely on a small countertop. This is the perfect size for a dorm room or a bar area. I am building a dry bar and this will be a great addition to the counter top. Some smaller microwaves lack functionality, but that is not the case with this model. Insignia is known for providing outstanding value and this is no exception. It does take slightly longer to heat food when compared to a larger, thus more powerful microwave. The difference is minimal. The handle is well constructed and requires a conscious button push to open the door. The door is very stable and quality is outstanding. The interface has a very nice appearance and it is extremely simple to set up to use. Setting the time was straight forward and there are several pre-programmed options for simple operation. There is a 30 second cooking option that is cumulative with multiple presses. Food cooks evenly with the circular ration of the cooking plate. The unit is easy to clean and I’m very happy with all aspects of the product.

This Insignia microwave is a great addition to a dorm room or home office. The compact size allowed it to fit perfectly on the mini fridge in my office with its black decor matching perfectly. It feels well built with no trim or components that gave me any worry about falling apart. I'd expect this to easily handle dorm or office service plus a transition to an apartment. Setup was as simple as the fridge that it sat upon. Remove from the box, discard some packing material, and plug in to a wall outlet. Like most modern microwaves, you've got a display that shows a clock, cook time, or some settings. Buttons let you choose between some cook presets, defrost, setting power levels, express (1 - 6 minutes), an extra 30 seconds, or entering your own cook time. However, there's a few other interesting features, a beverage preset, multistage cooking, and memory. A particularly convenient preset that the Insignia comes with is “Dinner Plate”, easily the one I used the most often. Not because I was eating dinner in my office, it was just a good match for the lunch or leftovers I was warming up. The regular use in my office showed how good a match it was with the mini fridge. Because everything I had was already a size that would fit in the fridge, I didn't really notice the smaller size as being an impediment to use. The minor adjustment I needed to make was on cooking time for prepackaged items. Using the dinner preset eliminated needing to guesstimate how much more time to add. The beverage preset is not one I used myself beyond experimenting as I've not encountered this before (actually, all of the functionality I'm about to describe was new to me). But you press the button and the display cycles through the number of 4oz cups you need to warm up. The multi-stage cooking let's you configure two different cook operations in one step. So you can have it defrost then move directly into cooking. Or cook at one power level for a couple minutes then go to a different one. This is actually something I do a couple times a month cooking certain dishes with the microwave in my kitchen, just I need to carry out the two different steps manually. So I certainly see the immediate use case if this is someone's primary microwave. Note, multistage is really dual stage, you can only configure up to two stages. The memory feature let's you save 3 different custom multistage programs. Again, this is a perfect match for me as I have two dishes that I cook where I'm defrosting and then warming at 100% power the same two ingredients. My other use are some TV dinners that cook at 50% power then 100% but you usually need to stir in-between. I also can't quite remember if they use the same or similar cook times but if so, could be a candidate for saving with the memory feature. But that aside, if one has a custom time they use for a favorite or regular dish, saving it to memory can turn that into a two press operation. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the utility of this microwave. Well made, matches other appliances, gets the job done and has some pretty useful features. It's not large enough or powerful enough to satisfy a family's normal use but for a single person or couple this is pretty much perfect.

The Insignia™ .7 Cu. Ft. Compact Microwave is definitely very compact. This microwave would be good for when there is limited counter space available, such as: a camper/RV, dorm, small apartment or perhaps an office. It has 700 watts of power, which is definitely on the lower end of microwaves, but in most cases it is sufficient, especially for reheating. The LED display panel does have a bunch of pre-set cooking function buttons for the standard pizza, popcorn, potato, etc. which adds convenience. There is a 10" glass turntable which is a nice feature in a .7 cu ft microwave and there is a light which I always appreciate. It has a child safety feature where you must press a release button on the handle each time before opening the door via the pull handle. A child lock can also be set via the LED panel and this completely locks all functions until this setting is cancelled. This is heavy, at just under 21 lbs, which leads me to believe this is a sturdy unit and it doesn't feel cheap. This microwave includes a very helpful and quite extensive user guide, that includes troubleshooting help. There are actually 3 separate guides: English, French and Spanish. As most people do, I made popcorn in this microwave - as my daughter said "Isn't that why people buy a microwave"? Well, not in this case. This microwave is too small to make a standard bag of microwave popcorn. The turntable started out turning, but as the bag began to fill, the bag became too large for the microwave and the turntable stopped turning. Also, it took quite a bit more time than I am used to for the kernels to begin popping. When the popping kernels got to the 3 second interval, I removed the bag. The popcorn was burnt. So if you are wanting to make microwave popcorn in this, maybe use the smaller individual bags? I am pretty sure they would fit just fine. I have to say, it is difficult for me to write this review because I have to remember to judge it based on what it is and not what I want it to be. This Insignia™ .7 Cu. Ft. Compact Microwave is not the microwave for me, but it may be the microwave for you. If you are looking for a very compact microwave due to limited counter space, this might just be what you're looking for! It performs admirably and for simple reheating of food, it works great! And it has safety features I wasn't expecting.

This is a decent little microwave from the Best Buy house brand and for the most part it does what you need to do for a compact budget friendly microwave. The 0.7 Cu. Ft capacity is good for a college dorm or an apartment and it’s not really made for heavy duty use by large plates or items . This is not a high-powered microwave, you’ll have to heat things a little bit longer than you would with a more powerful microwave. The oven is a bit noisy and the door button sometimes is sticky and doesn’t always open the door perhaps a handle manually open handle would have been better design but then again that would also. It has most of the features you would expect in a microwave: different power settings by you hitting the power button repeatedly, a very basic LED display and rotating glass carousel. Of Course, it has all the presets for common foods like reheat, popcorn, frozen vegetables, beverage, baked potato and pizza (the latter which you usually don’t see on a microwave). Overall, this is good for what you’re buying and it is perfect for a college dorm, apartment or if you just have something in a room that you occasionally need to heat up or as an auxiliary microwave during the holidays to keep in the garage like I do. The Insignia™ .7 Cubic foot compact microwave oven is a solidly built appliance that offers a rich feature set in a small package. In spite of its diminutive size the unit does not skimp on cooking options. However be aware that it is only a 700 watt unit and that .7 cubic feet can be a VERY tight space! The oven is very well packaged and I had it out of the box and running in minutes. The tempered glass turntable is just large enough to support a standard size dinner plate. A also appreciate the locking handle. You must lift up on a "trigger" that is integrated into the mechanism before the door will open. I see this as being a benefit if you choose to use the unit in a camping trailer or motorhome. No amount of road jostling is going to cause it to spring open. The interior lights up when you open the door and anytime it is actively cooking. Operating noise is what you would expect and the chime that announces your food is ready is not obnoxious. The oven offers eleven power levels and nine preset functions for cooking, a generous number of options. You can also specify your cooking time manually. I do have one observation that is a bit of a bummer - if you try to make popcorn in this unit you may find that there is NOT enough room! Once the bag "inflates" to its full size there is no longer enough space to allow the bag to continue to rotate! For me that resulted in uneven heating and excess unpopped kernels! In summary - if you have limited countertop space or a special use (like a camper) be sure to give this little microwave a good look.

This microwave is pretty strait forward. I like the buttons and options that are available. The +30 sec button is a feature I use often. I also like that I can turn off the beeping of the buttons and end of time sound. I like to be quiet when I heat up a late night snack and the beeping gives my mission away! There is a good assortment of preset functions to reheat items, cook popcorn, and also defrost but I did not test this feature as I cook fresh every night. The popcorn button was perfectly timed and did not burn the popcorn at all when I cooked a regular size bag of popcorn. You can also set preset times for the number pad which is a feature I’ve never experienced before but I did utilize more then the other preset options. I set the numbers for 1 minute increments and I seemed to utilize that feature frequently as well. It has a 0.7 cu ft space to fit your items which I find to be the perfect size for me. Anything bigger takes too much space especially with a counter unit. It is considered compact and I find it is a space saving size.

Powerful, yet compact. I especially like the latch on the handle to prevent people from yanking open the door. Gets the job done.
