Windows 10 installs all the drivers you don't have to do anything. It does not get hot. For HDMI to function over USB-C you need to have a USB-C port that supports Thunderbolt on your laptop. Or you need a laptop that supports Alt-Mode on the USB-C port. Out of 3 Laptops in our family only one device supports Thunderbolt. So HDMI only worked on one laptop. Apple owners need not worry virtually all there devices support Thunderbolt.
