We ended up returning it. You can barely hear the sound and the second display would not turn on.

    Lasted 6 years!

I bought the old 7" dual screen Insignia DVD player 6 years ago. I'm reviewing this newer 9" model because Best Buy no longer sells our older version. I've seen many negative reviews for portable DVD players that break within a month. That's not the case with Insignia! This DVD player lasted us SIX years with several long road trips along the way, and happened to be the least expensive set I could find at the time. When one of my boys was little, he accidentally kicked the screen, which made the screen crooked, yet it kept working for 3 more years. It wasn't until my nephew kicked the screen in even harder before it wouldn't work anymore. If we didn’t have wild kids, who knows how long this set would’ve lasted?! Now for some nitty gritty. Pros: - Volume control and headphone jacks on each monitor. That’s priceless when we parents don’t feel like listening to the same movie for the millionth time in the front seat. - Straps kept the monitors in place securely - Easy to install/de-install - Comes with a handy carrying case - It lasted SIX years with heavy use. Cons: - With our old 7” dual screen set, we had to restart movies after turning off the engine. *I hear that is no longer the case with this newer set.* - With the 7” set, the cords were nice and long, and that meant that the kids tripped over them. Not sure if the newer 9” set had this problem, but it seems unavoidable to have cords.

Finally got to use these on a trip to Wisconsin. the product seems well-made and my kids loved having them on a four hour trip. I haven't had any issues yet and the picture quality is very nice. my kids used to share a portable DVD player and this is a great solution to having them fight over the unit over which one is closer

After buying an RCA Brand that broke down three months after purchase and with no memory feature, we bought this Insignia brand, even though there is no remote control, the headphones are great and memory feature is great, we can turn off the car, turn on the car 6 hours later and the movie will pick up right where it left off.

After reading all of the reviews, I really didn't want to go with this brand. The brand I wanted was sold out, but there were plenty of these on the shelf. Huge sign! HOWEVER... I thought I'd give it a chance anyway, to my surprise, everything worked great right out of the box. We unpacked everything in the living room, plugged it in, and it worked great. You do have to make sure everything is plugged into the sides tightly otherwise you will get a static noise. After I figured that out, it was pretty nice. We popped a movie in, it played on the spot. We mounted it to the seat rest carriers, then brought everything out to the car. Everything mounted tightly. It's unfortunate that the main AC/DC cord is not long enough, it sort of hangs in between the two seats- but if that is my biggest problem, I'm gold. After plugging in the car outlet, the systems started up fairly quick, and in no time I was watching a movie in the backseat of my car. I am buying this a few weeks before my road trip as I plan on extensively testing this before I leave. But I have to say, so far I'm impressed at the ease in setup. One thing that is a little unfortunate is that it won't play BluRay. I think for $170, adding in the BluRay option should have been possible.... For 4 bored kids on a 1700 mile road trip, hopefully it holds up. If this works all summer, I'll be happy. If not, I'll come back to update my review...

Stopped working after about 6 months. It would stop playing mid DVD, or the screen would have blue and white lines through it. towards the end, it wouldn't even read brand new DVDs. I would have to constantly unplug it and restart it because it would freeze mid play. The holder of the player literally came undone (snapped) while driving and fell into my daughters lap as she was still rear facing. I am lucky it didn't hit her in the head. *I ordered a different 9inch holder that velcro and is super secure off another site* I called the warranty number (WOSRT CUSTOMER SERVICE) and after explaining the issue over and over again I Was told I had to bring it to best buy. It was still under warranty, so i returned it to best buy (received amazing customer service) I had received an amazing deal on this, and use rewards and such so I exchanged it for a new one hoping mine was just a lemon, as I can't afford to pay another hundred plus dollars to replace it. As other reviewers have had amazing experiences I hope that my second time round with this is great! FINGERS CROSSED.

Great replacement for our old unit

This was about the best choice I could find and worked great with our elementary kids on a long trip. The only downside is how the DVD's load in from the top of the unit and is a little awkward. Otherwise, the functions and quality of the unit was great. It even came with a carrying case for storage.

We bought this to replace our previous unit. We were actually able to add on one of the tvs from our other unit to give us 3 TVs in our 12 passenger van. Works great, keeps the kids entertained on the road

We got these DVD player a couple weeks ago. Went on a trip this past week was the first time hooking them up and you could barley hear it with volume all the up we also got her a pair of kids headphones but the volume is so low you could not hear it at all. With DVDs playing which is the whole point of having this, but we put a CD in and was loud as ever! Looks to me this thing is backwards! Also the straps that come with the DVD players is a return in itself. Alot of reason to not get! Definitely a return!!!

Its a good product for the price when it works. But with any of these portable DVD players you will definitely need to purchase the extra warranty to get any real usage out of it.

I ordered this online, shipped to my house. Arrived quickly but there was a horrible scratchy buzzing sound when i plugged it in to try it out., both through the players speaker and through headphones. I returned it to the store, planning on just exchanging it for an identical one. We tried out the new one before we left the store, so glad we did, it had the same problem. But as usual, Best Buy had great staff to help. They suggested the Phillips brand player. (with an additional screen, just like this one). I purchased two headphone splitters so that each of my 4 kids could have headphones on if i didn't feel like listening to their movie. It worked out great. 4 kids, long road trips, peace and quiet again. Don't bother with Insignia, just go for the Phillips.

We’re sorry you didn’t have a good experience with the player. We have tested the same unit in our product lab and weren’t able to replicate that issue, so we’re unable to explain what might have gone wrong. Enjoy your future car trips! -Jason, Insignia Products BBY-ExBrand_Insignia

I am a single parent who travel's back and forth between Texas and Louisiana. I needed something to keep my 4 y/o occupied and this portable DVD player does the job. The only thing missing is a remote. If it came with one of those would definitely be 5 stars.

Works well for the kids and doesn't skip. I was hoping for a better screen picture. One thing I recommend is cross crossing the straps when putting them on the seats & holds so much better. Happy with the buy and would buy again though.
