While the air pods have ability to locate when that happens via find my phone app on apple . they are not water proof so if they fall into water or on ground while raining u may risk ruining them

Works very well, only downside is due to how Apple designed the recharging case, so you do have to remove the AirPods from the lanyard before recharging.
