The sales rep said the sound is good, because it's the Best Buy store brand. Well, the sound is not very good to my ears, and there are no tone controls. Otherwise, it functions pretty much as expected.

My wife picked up for me from the local store yesterday afternoon. In the evening, I took it out of the box and started testing it, with the CD player being first. The sound was ok, nothing spectacular but I was satisfied. I then tested the tape player. While the tape was playing, there was a background noise coming out of the speaker blended in with the music. I tried a different side of the tape and another tape, the same thing occurred. I then pressed "play" with no tape in the slot. The noise was there, it sounded like medium to high pitch buzzing mixed in with repetitive ticking noise, almost like a small boat. The higher the volume, the louder it got. I believe it has to do with the sound of tape motor somehow interfering with the speakers. Obviously, the unit had to be returned, which I did an hour ago and exchanged it for another one the same exact model. I finished testing it a few minutes ago. The same issue with this one as well. It seems there is a flaw with this model and probably the tape motor lacks proper insulation preventing interference with the speakers. Its going right back to the store tomorrow. Disappointed, but not the end of the world. They just don't make them like they used to

It’s too bad that we live in a society of planned obsolescence and when the big businesses decide to change they really don’t care about what the public needs. We need to have support for all the cds they sold us and bring back quality cd players.

The buttons are barely functional. Plastic doors are cheap but could have been much better even using cheap plastic parts. The sound quality is poor and it isn't just because the speakers are small and close together. The whole unit vibrates and distorts the sound.
