Previous systems had contacts on the outside of the case and the controller rested against those contacts and charged, this one uses a micro USB that has to line up and plug into the controller.

Too Hard to Connect

However it is unbelievably difficult to match up the micro USB to the controller to charge it. It would have honestly been better if they provided 2 cables. I've futzed, fiddled, and pushed but to get the controller to charge you have be in just the right stand on your left leg, push in the right spot, at the right time position that it's almost untenable. Depending on the day or week my wife or I have better luck charging the controllers with this. Yes, it charges the controllers but the way that the stand and the controllers mount makes it incredibly difficult to marry the two.
