Great Tablet for everyone to use

Everyone says that the screen quality is terrible but they are completely wrong. They only say that because they compare it to the Apple Ipad product. The brightness of the screen is great, the touch screen works really well, and you can get almost every app possible in the Google Play Store. Since I just got the new tablet, I am still working out the gist of it. Obviously this is not better than an Apple Ipad but for new users that want to buy a cheap tablet, this would be the right fit for you. -It is simple: when you first turn on the tablet, there will be the internet connection page. Technically you sign in and you will need that security password for accessing your internet source. Then it asks you if you have a Gmail account and you type in both the Username & Password. After you agree with the things that you need to agree to, you are ready to use the Insignia Flex 8 tablet. -They provide you with a charger, the cord for the charger, a tablet, and a piece of cloth that will allow you to wipe your screen. -If you still don't know how to use a tablet, there is a poster paper inside that tells you the instructions and a booklet on warrantly, safety, troubleshooting, etc. The booklet is really helpful plus that poster paper as well. -All the apps work well, the internet pages load fast, and everything is simple to use. Don't judge a tablet because of the price, judge it base on the actual product itself. In the beginning, I thought this tablet was going to be decent but on the bad side because a lot of people said that the screen quality is bad. After trying it for myself, some reviewers just have really high expectations so do not avoid this product because of that. This product is a steal and I feel that it will be for you too.

    good basic tablet

for those familiar with the android OS this is a good basic tablet. I initially bought this since I was in the market for one and found this on sale. However the lack of a rear facing camera was disappointing and the front facing one wasn't exactly photo friendly unless you're in a bright room. If you don't want to use head phones then lean the thing against a wall so the sound waves can reflect back at you since the speakers are weak.. Importing pictures has problems since the user interface would have them out of order. This was a big problem for me since I had comics in jpg format. People have complained about the lack of space but none realized that the Android OS takes up around 4GB of space, so you basically have half of 8GB. It's same even in the Samsungs, expect to lose around 4GB, expect to lose 5GB if you buy the Notes because of the OS. In the end this is not worth the MSRP, you might as well get a Samsung 7 inch tab for the same price.

I bought a total of 4 as gifts for Christmas. These were going to be for a 16, 15, 14, and 4 year old. I caught them on sale for $99.99. The 1st one I purchased to play with for a week, to see how it measured up tp the nook, two Kindles, and surface we have . Even though this tablet, will not equally compare... I was surprised by the speed and graphics considering the price. This tab has a lot of extras I wasn't expecting. All the kids are still completely estactic with their tablets. A little heavyweighted for the 4 year old, but this is a good thing because it forces her to set it down while useing it. No worries about her droping it. The teens have not set the down! Battery life is between 2 and 5 hours depending on how it is being used. The 4 year old likes Netflix and will not use the energy saving option (make it pretty again) so it is normal ready to charge in a little more than 2 hours. Still a good thing, its like it monitor's her time for us. Lol anyway more than met expectations for the price, but if you are used to a higher end tab you might be disappointed. Myself I have a surface and a samsung tab 3, I still grab one of the kids if it is closer,

First to be clear... I wasn't expecting much for $80.00. I have a few high end tablets (iPad 2 & iPad 3, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy Note 8). I was out pretending to be interested in Black Friday shopping and this was the only item I purchased for Black Friday. I was intrigued what a cheaper tablet could do.... I was also getting tired of my 2 year old son, yelling "Mine... mine... mine!" as he ran around the house with MY $500 iPad..... just so he could watch Netflix kids on. I figured, $80.00 is a small price to pay, in order to get my iPad back. I bring it home and set it up in less than 10 minutes. The first thing I realized is.... this really was no different that a Toshiba Excite tablet I had purchased a few years ago. I sign in with a new gmail address, so that my personal emails wouldn't go to this tablet and I downloaded Netflix, right away. 2 hours later.... and I still am on the same tablet... really testing it. No... it doesn't have the same retina display that a $500 table has.... but kids don't care about that. And in all honest, the video quality was definitely okay. I installed an app called Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving. The app worked great.. no lagging. I opened several tabs and experienced no lagging. Long story short.... I'm going to buy another one. For 80.00... I would much rather have this on business trips for obvious reasons. Easy to offset the cost, if I lose it (or it's stolen) and for the price I don't find myself spending time babying it.. like it's a precious diamond (iPad... lol). I was scared to buy this brand, because I wasn't sure what to expect... but this has more than exceeded my expectations. I would give this to any new tablet user/child/teenager....... or 42 year old man, who has been an expensive gadget snob. :) Also... you may read some reviews about the sound not being loud enough. Trust me... this happens on a lot of tablets. They are not designed to replaced your surround sound. I'm currently watching a movie as I type, and yes.... I wish it would fill the room, but I'm 5 feet away from the tablet and I can hear just the movie just fine. I definitely recommend. But I would only buy this if it's on sale. Had I paid the original price... I wouldn't be as happy.

    Not bad, but ...

Was looking for something primarily to use Skype, watch Netflix and browse the web while I'm at home, and for $80, it's not a bad deal. It was very easy to set up, and powerful enough that I was able to go from app to app without a hiccup. However, certain apps (Instagram, ESPN Sportscenter to name two) wouldn't download on it because apparently, this device was incompatible. Disappointing, but I could've managed. However, the screen resolution was the deal-breaker. It wasn't terrible, but for the reasons why I need a tablet, it just didn't cut it. I tried watching a few movies on Netflix and I felt like I was cheating myself and took it back. If you don't care about the quality of the screen, then I'd say go for it, especially for the price.

    About the storage...

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I read the other reviews about the 8 GB storage(or lack thereof). I checked mine and lo and behold it only showed .98 GB...or so I thought. I called Insignia and they told me to take it to the Best Buy Geek Squad so they could give me another tablet. They got me another one and I had them turn it on before I left the store to check if the 8 GB was there. It showed the same .98 GB. Turns out you have to add both the internal storage space of .98 GB and the NAND flash to get the true storage number. They said 6 to 6.5 GB is normal on an 8 GB tablet because the other space is used for the preloaded operating system and such. If the Insignia people could have told me that on the phone it would have saved me a trip out in this snow. :-) Hope this clears it up for all of you wondering where all of the memory is!

Great Tablet; unbelievable price for what you get.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Let me start by saying that is not a $200.00 tablet. If you are budget minded get the Insignia 10.1 with the Nvidia quad core processor for about the same price when Best Buy has it on sale. With that said, when I saw this tablet advertised for $80, I was intrigued. Up until this point, $80 would get you any number of off brand "Android"tablets from some discount website with horrible reviews. This tablet is backed by Best Buy and comes with the Geek Squad app preloaded. I think the fact that most of the reviews coming in are around five stars says a lot. I also have a Tab 2 10.1 and a Nook HD+. The Nook has the fastest processor but the B & N user interface takes away from the full android experience. Also, it only runs 4.0 and it is not fully supported by Google Play. The Insignia is not fully supported either but is running Jelly Bean 4.2 (as is the Tab 2). When I say not fully supported, I mean that for one reason or another there are some apps (very few in relation to the total number available) that I am able to download to my Samsung that are not available for the other two. However, at $80.00 I can overlook that; At $200 I would expect it. Otherwise this tablet and its specs make its performance on par with the other two. MY TWC app streams shows and college football games with no buffering and searching the internet or running apps is no different than my Tab 2 except for the $ 250.00 difference in price. If you are worried that it is only 8GB, it has an sd slot for expansion. Sound is on par with my HD+. The Tab 2 has front facing speakers so it is a louder, but I have no problem hearing the Insignia. As with my Tab 2, I downloaded Flash Player which allows me to view so much more content ( the HD+ UI blocks ANY apps not from Nook or Google Play). Believe it or not, all three of these tablets have unique features and qualities making each of them a different experience. All of this is a long winded way of saying that compared to two other popular and more expensive tablets, you won't find a better value for the price. This is not some cheap children's tablet. It is the real deal and a real value and if you have issues you know that Best Buy will be there. I didn't know i 'needed' a third tablet until I got the Flex 8.

I bought this for my 3 year old for Christmas. So far it seems like a good product for the price. It's easy to operate, good screen resolution, and it doesn't look cheap and cheesy. It also works pretty quickly. My 3 year old has very little patience so I need something fast. The volume is kind of low but my daughter usually has her headphones on anyway. My biggest complaint is that I can't find a good durable case for it. I have an Android phone and this tablet works exactly the same so it's a good fit for us.

I was surfing for tablets through out this November black Friday weekend at other stores trying to get a bargain on a tablet and the reviews on the low end tables where not good. I came across this Insignia Flex 8-8GB in black and all I can say is WOW. It is easy to set up the Wi-Fi access and setting up the tablet is a breeze. Surfing is as good as if I was surfing on my laptop I was surprised of the quality of the glass screen and even the weight feels good in your hands. The brightness could be better, however for the price it surpasses other tablets. Battery life is great. All I can say is that this tablet is amazing for the price !

I received this Tablet yesterday after an ordering process made stressful by Best Buys backed up email notification system. So far, the tablet is exactly what I had hoped for except for the low sound volume. Headphones are a must of you want to watch or listen to anything. Other than that, the tablet is pretty nice. The display looks good and it's bright enough for me. The processor is pretty fast. I think a lot of people are comparing the quality of the Insignia to the iPad and that's why their unhappy. I've never owned an iPad and never will. As long as I can get a good quality tablet at a good price, I'm fine. I doubt I would have paid $200 for this, or any tablet for that matter, but $79.00 was too good to pass up. I'm glad I did it.

    Decent for Web/Music/Games

I bought the tablet the other day, as I accidently dropped my Nexus 7 (2012). I thought this would be a Decent replacement to watch tv shows, movies, or YouTube. One I bought this on the sale ($100) I booted it up. Right away I noticed the colors were very saturated and VERY pixelated, despite the resolution and pixel density. Thinking this would go away after use, I tried to download Games such as Candy Crush and Cut The Rope. They ran fine, besides the off color. I next tried a more System Intensive app called Dead Trigger 2, which is FPS and requires a Decent Machine to use. The colors were again off, and the picture tended to get very slow and choppy. After that I tried to use the Web, which was Very Fast, and loaded pages nicely. The only problem AGAIN was the screen, which showed weird looking and "Colorful Pixels" on the White Background. The final thing I tried was TV and Youtube. First of all, the video wasn't choppy and didn't have hiccups, which is good. BUT, the Colors were again VERY off and when you viewed people, their skin looked Very Pale versus the actual footage. Also some times the Brown would show up as Green. The Sound was very good, and pretty load. Some people say its quite, which is true on lower volumes, but 50-100% off the bar, I could hear it from Several Feet away. One more thing is that this tablet is very quick and "snappy" loading pages and files quickly. The Available space is divided between the System OS, and NAND flash, which is hard to find a way to get apps onto, but it is possible. Overall, I most likely wouldn't recommend this tablet for picky people or stressful use. Maybe for Kids under their Teens or for Un-TechSavy people. I ALSO HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DONT SPEND MORE THEN $100.

I bought this tablet last week and absolutely love it. I wasn't expecting it to be so nice since it was pretty cheap. The touch screen works good and battery life seems good as well. The speakers are quiet, but you can't expect too much when you pay so little. This is definitely worth more then what I paid.

Having been the "victim" of cheap tablets in the past and having them be basically unusable (or have a proprietary OS and not have a good app store), I bought this little guy based on decent reviews (and obviously based on price). Wanted an iPad but couldn't justify spending $300+ plus. At the $99 price point, all I wanted was something that is responsive and functional. This tablet takes the cake in both areas. It's as responsive to touches (commands) as my iphone 5s and loads web pages as fast as my laptop. Don't buy this expecting it to be in the same class as a $500 tablet, but if you're looking for a budget tablet that functions as well as the expensive ones but without all the bells and whistles, look no further than this product. For the cons, I echo one of the other reviewers in that it's difficult to find a nice fitting case (and screen cover), doesn't have flash (but neither does an iPad, so....), doesn't have the sharpest screen resolution (but don't get me wrong, it's like SD vs. HD, just not in the same realm as an iPad or a more expensive tab), and could use a back camera, but I expected all of these things and couldn't be happy with my $99 investment (plus I got a $10 gift card back!)

I have been an iPad/iPhone user forever! I wanted to get some experience on Android before jumping in an getting a Samsung S4 or something more serious. This tablet was priced under $100 so I figured, why not.. Its a sturdy tablet, looks and feels strong. Dual-core processor is responsive and Jelly Bean 4.1 wasn't bad at all in terms of ease-of-use. I learnt that out of the 8GB memory in the tablet, only about 4GB is available to the user. Rest is used by the operating system internally. Ok, fair enough, thats an Android issue not this tablet. Now for the parts I didnt like: 1) Wifi connectivity (perhaps the antenna placement or quality) -- Where iPad and all other devices found the WiFi access points with good signal strength, Insignia was either not finding them or had fewer bars than every other device I own. 2) Video quality is similar to a VGA monitor. Granted, I wasn't expecting retina display for $100 but this was less than what i was expecting. 3) Sound quality - you would have to have the tablet next to your ear to be able to hear anything. I think its also missing the back camera. Not that I cared but just pointing out for someone who is reading this to make a decision. After playing with the tablet for a month or so, I sold it on craigslist for a small loss (but thats expected as it served my purpose of experiencing Android environment)

Staying in touch, running apps, researching, playing music, reading ebooks, listening to audio books, using it as a sleep monitor-this 8" wonder gives me the versatility between my phone and my laptop! It has a micro SD slot so I can expand the storage. I can even expand the memory. Picture is clear, responds to touch smoothly. Cool discovery: the charger/data cable to my Android phone works on it too!(It also comes with its own cable). My first touchpad was the HP with the Web OS. I made it a dual boot with Cyanogen which sucked down battery real fast without usage. At 24 hours, with the wifi running, (and I played on it for a couple hours) my Insignia is sitting at 71% battery. I am very pleased. I think you will be too!

I really like this tablet. It is easy to use, very thin, and the battery last a very long time. I have used it for the last 3 months and I have not had any problems - no locking up and no crashes. I mainly use it to surf the web and listen to music. You can connect it by Bluetooth to a speaker and it works great for music/mp3. I starts fast when you turn it on. Overall it is perfect for quick web surfing instead of getting out my laptop.
