It came with a hard case shell, and I did not know what to do with it. Therefore I just placed the screen protector on the phone.

I had a techarmor glass protector on my old phone that only scratched after a year or so of use. If it is completely scratched up after a single day of use, then I no longer trust it to protect my phone.
