Rare HD Radio and excellent value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tabletop HD Radios are rare, and this one performs so much better than its unassuming appearance may suggest. FM analog reception in difficult indoor conditions is on par with much more expensive tabletop radios. I tested against Sony ICF-7600GR and Grundig Globe Traveler G3 which are shortwave world band receivers with really good FM reception as well. The long telescopic antenna helps and the included even longer pigtail wire antenna for optional use is for and works well under super difficult reception conditions. Great display features besides all the RDS and program ID info include signal strength bars (similar to cell phone signal bars) that help with best radio positioning and antenna orientation. This way the always finicky digital HD signals can be pulled in better. I tested in a room in which neither my high-end digital fire and police signal scanner nor any conventional radio does well, and thanks to the signal strength display in this radio I could locate a sweet spot for reception. Digital signals drop off before analog signals drown out in noise completely. This is true for digital TV, digital fire and police radio and HD radio, because the digital decoder cannot decode anything when the signal error rate (noise) is high. So, always position your digital signal radio and antenna carefully for good reception. When the signal is strong this radio widens up its sound to a spacial stereo effect. Given the small size of this unit the sound quality is really good, not tinny at all. Analog and digital stations sound equally good. This radio can also manually tune in to weak stations that are missed in the station scan and plays them quite well.

May change the way you listen to radio!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.HD Radio is different and unexpected if you are not familiar with it. Familiar FM stations are on there but each station broadcasts additional programs named HD2, HD3, even HD4. There may even be AM stations on there too. There are 20 (not 10) presets which scroll in numerical order. The radio belies its small size. It sounds better than any small radio I ever had. With headphones it sounds spectacular. I bought 2, 1 for upstairs and 1 for down, and I keep batteries in both so they can travel anywhere. I even listen to it while showering. Now ask me if I like this thing!

High-quality HD Radio
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After buying and returning multiple low-priced radios due to various reason (defective, no reception, etc.), I decided to pay a little bit more for something of hopefully better quality. This HD radio did not disappoint. I was unfamiliar with HD radio before, but it is perfect for what I needed it for (listening to NPR, music, etc., while around the house and in the backyard). It is crystal clear, easy to use, loud and has excellent sound quality for a small radio. The only gripe I have is that the radio is very thin, which is not a bad thing in itself, but the back of the base is somewhat rounded and it tends to tip over. The $50 price tag was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but it was worth every penny. Highly recommended.

not what you think
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.mfg. says this is HD Stereo, but sound is low-fi. It does not receive addd-on FM carrier channels that are common in car HD radios. Mfg. does not tell you this.

For the price, it's a great unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The best price about this HD radio is its price and design. It's low cost and slim design. Here's what I like about it. Great HD reception. The antenna is very long and robust. But even better is a pigtail antenna, which is a long wire that plugs into a dedicated socket. That really improved reception on my unit. You can tuck the wire in the rear, which improves appearance. Has AUX input. I attached a bluetooth audio receiver and paired it with my cell phone. Can now stream in Internet music and listen via the speakers. You can also use wire connection. Sound: Clear and crisp, but not very loud. This is perfect for me, since I use this as radio at low volumes playing in the background while I work. If you want loud, robust sound, then this isn't for you. What could be improved. No super impressed with engineering. Switches seem slight akimbo. But it seems solid, so no complaints. Wish it had AM Overall, I really like this unit.

Simply the best Portable HD Radio out there.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best HD Radio I have found so far, I have been waiting for it for quite some time, and I fell in love with it as soon as I took it out of the box, sure it doesn't look like a futuristic radio however the make quality is obvious right away. For anyone expecting unrealistic sound out of this tiny radio at high volumes you might end up disappointed, the small speakers from this device are enough to fill out a small room at normal not ear popping level, however if you have a a set of computer speakers, an amp or any other type of external set of speakers you can simply hook it up to that ( I have it hooked up to my Logitech Z623 Speaker system) and boy then you'll come to find out the quality of sound that HD Radio along with a little device such as this can pull out! The description says 10 presets, however you can save up to 20 stations as presets, The LCD Screen does not display album art or any type of media, but is good enough displaying Song Title, Artist, Station Name, and sometimes other info provided by the radio station such as web address etc. One of the things that I love about this radio is that you can save sub-stations i.e.: HD2, HD3 etc. as favorites too, and if you were tuning to a sub station and turn off the radio when you turn it back on the radio will rightfully tune to the sub station you were listening to before being turned off, most HD radios I have seen will revert back to the main station in this situation, additionally most will not let you save sub stations. You can also hook up an mp3 player, phone or any other audio device so as to play music, audio books etc. through this radio speakers. I have only found two faults in this lovely little radio, first it doesn't have dedicated buttons to recall presets, so you must scroll through all of your favorites instead, I understand however, that they wanted to make this radio as compact as possible and adding 10 or 20 extra buttons for that wouldn't help with that :) and 2nd Not sure if this is a fault really as I'm not technically versed in how HD Radio works as of the date I'm writing this) is the fact that according to the HD Radio Alliance website there are 4 AM HD Radio stations in my area but this radio doesn't tune to those frequencies, I understand those are AM but they are HD too supposedly, can anyone enlighten me on this? To make the story short: If you are looking for a great HD/FM Radio that works as advertised with all the bells and whistles minus great speakers, then look no more, this is the radio for you.
