HD radio really knows how to clear up music station's that means no more static while listening to music and with HD radio sports fan's gets a lot more than just sports score or talk you can really here the game impact with HD radio. I called the HD radio company and they said the whole state of Pennsylvania has a 140 radio station's that already upgraded to HD radio that's a good choice for people in the state of Pennsylvania that means we get a lot more of clear radio stations with no static

What a great little radio! Reception is clear; setup is easy. Plug it in, find your stations, sit back and relax. My little Insignia AM-FM got fried during a thunderstorm, so I figured it was time to upgrade. The only classical music station in town broadcasts on HD, and when I found out that Cardinals Baseball is also broadcast on HD, the deal was done. You're not going to get Carnegie Hall with a tabletop radio, but the sound is definitely clean, even when it's cranked. I'm extremely pleased with this purchase. It's definitely a Best Buy!

Good choice for a small table top radio that can pick up HD stations with multicast channels. Picked up all our local HD stations (all within 10 miles) even with telescope antenna not extended. Easy to use controls. Because of small speakers, it's not a hifi radio, but sound is clean. It's nice to be able to disconnect from wall outlet and use it as a portable on battery power.

Reception was greatly improved by using a cheap tv antenna. You will need a little adaptor to allow a coaxial cable to be screwed onto a 1/8" plug that can be inserted into the antenna plug (instead of that wire antenna they gave you).

Great with good outside directional antenna.

This radio is great when paired with a good outdoor antenna and a set of external powered speakers. I hooked mine to a good quality pair of self powered two way speakers that used to be attached to a long gone PC tower, and a new $20 Winegard directional HD antenna mounted outside 12 feet up, pointed across an open field towards Ypsilanti, MI which is 35 flat miles away . With this set up I am getting sensational HD audio from Ypsilanti public radio blues and jazz stations WEMU HD 1 and WEMU HD 2. Farther out Detroit HD stations come in well also. No hiss, no fade, just lovely clear digital stereo sound with this set up. Without the outside antenna hookup, the HD reception is limited to under 20 miles. Regular FM reception is about the same as any FM radio with a whip or pigtail antenna. Sound with the internal speakers is good considering the small size of this tabletop radio. A great value.

    Great radio, quirky design

Just got this radio today for my desk at work. Most other people cant get reception and mine is crystal clear. Have a hard time getting some HD stations but all the normal stations are great. Design is a bit quirky though, the display is bit hard to read sitting on my desk because it faces upward. I also found I got better reception raising the radio onto a shelf I had but then I really could not read the display. Just settled on less reception. Would be 5 stars if it wasnt for this strange design.

The size and sound of this radio are nice. For the price though, I don't think it's worth it. I can get equally as good sound on a regular radio for half the price. The HD stations aren't worth it...at least in the city I live in. I'm returning this ASAP.

Excellent reception, but no "tone" control

with my conventional radios, had problems receiving a good signal for two FM stations that i like to listen to. This HD radio gives me very clear reception. Unbeknownst to me, with HD radio, one also gets "sub" channels off of the mother station. So if you like to listen to, say. 97.3 FM HD, you will get other channel choices at that tuning point from the same provider. The audio tone is OK but would really like to have control over it and this set does not have tone control adjustment.

This radio is the most sensitive potable radio I have had ever. I can walk around with it's antenna fully out and receive stations from 90 miles away when it is laying down on the ground. I can't rate battery life because I use very old rechargeable batteries, but it lasts about two hours with those. I can't rate the dependability of the HD radio because a mountain messes up the HD signal. It does receive it but I need to have the antenna out all the way.

Extremely happy with this radio; it's compact, gets very good reception, and sounds great through my home stereo (I've got it hooked-up to the stereo via the headphone jack). Only thing I would request is being able to dim the display or provide the ability to turn off the back-light.

Using the provided pigtail antenna, it receives crisp and clear HD radio signals. If you connect it to an external speaker with enough power, it will sound amazing, perhaps as good as CD quality and better than internet streaming. The internal speakers of this radio are not bad, but not great either. Adequate for my usage to put it in the kitchen. But I know if I ever need "great sound", I can just connect it to my external speakers. Absolutely recommended, $55 well spent (specially since there is no subscription now or ever in the future!).

Hooked this up in the basement just using the fold out antenna. Then hooked the headphone jack up to the stereo receiver. This has to be the cleanest radio I've ever heard. Can't wait to hook it up to the outside antenna. 4 stars because its a bit tinny all by itself. But awesome when used as a source!

Excellent reception without extending antenna. Easy to use with intuitive controls. Bright, clear display. Reasonable sound quality thru built-in speakers and superb sound quality when using high performance headphones. Long battery run time when using easy to replace4 AA batteries. Works great as a tuner when feeding a high performance stereo system from the headphone output. Plenty of FM station memories (20) for locations with many FM stations. Aux input for use with other sources. This radio is an incredible value when on sale for only $39.99 including free shipping. The Insignia NS-HDRAD is Highly Recommended.

    Good Little HD Radio

It is a small unobtrusive radio, and by being small, listening to music through the speakers have old style transistor radio sound. Good for background music or talk radio, but not for serious music appreciation. Having said that, plug in ear buds or headphones and it is very good. I never hooked it up to a receiver, but I am sure if I did the sound would be wonderful. Since I use it with ear buds, I am very happy with the sound. What is important to me is the excellent reception I get. I live fairly close to a state police radio relay tower, and ever since the tower went up I get horrible FM reception. This little radio (with the pig tail antenna attached) pulls in all local FM stations without missing a beat. I am in Baltimore county, and I can even get Washington DC stations sharp and clear without interference. I am very happy with the performance, but I am concerned about the build quality. Although it is a solid and heavy unit for its size, the small buttons are not perfectly aligned and I hope they will not cause problems in the future.

I got it on sale for $45 and i was impressed the telescopic antenna was picking up more stations than my rooftop and the analog FM tuner in my Onkyo receiver. Battery or wall supply does not matter. It's clean. The radio is tiny and so the "stereo" speakers placed next to each other. Might as well mix it down and play mono out and leave the stereo on headphone out only.Take the headphone out and feed it into better amp and speakers. So you can turn it into a tuner or use it as a portable radio. Also a mistake on part of Best Buy. It has 20 presets, not 10 as claimed which would have been too little in crowded areas.

Very good sound for a small radio and the reception is good, even in the basement. Much like satellite radio, you need to get used to the idea that you'll have brief fade-outs sometimes instead of static. AM stations with FM-HD frequencies sound excellent and -- in an urban area -- there should be good programming options. The preset issue is a bit awkward, but I have the 4 or 5 main stations I listen to at the top of the list -- so it's no big deal. For a $50 radio, I'd give it 6 stars if that was an option.

This radio works great at my house. However, I bought it to use at work, which is 12 miles farther away from the source, because I thought it would receive stations clearer than the Walkman radio I've been using. WRONG!! Basically, if you cannot receive a station fairly clear in analog, you will likely not be able to receive the HD component of the signal, so you will end up receiving the same static filled analog broadcast. This is not a problem with the product, it is due to my mis-conception of HD radio and lack of research before buying this. However, I will probably just replace my kitchen radio at home with this one instead of returning it. The radio is easy to set up and use and I like how the buttons are laid out. The only negative thing I can say about it is about the station presets. You have to scroll up and down to get to your preset number.

One of the cool things about HD in general is that AM radio finally sounds good, but not on this radio because there is no way to get AM on it. Boo! Also, tuning is difficult. There's no direct-tune to a station. When pushing the "+" or "-" buttons, the radio will go to the "next" station, but misses many along the way. To get the missed ones, the user needs to repeatedly hit the up/down keys quickly to go up or down .1 MHz at a time. The pigtail antenna doesn't seem to do much beyond what the built-in mono pole antenna does, and sensitivity seems low. But when the radio does pull in an HD signal, it's nice to hear the sound quality difference and good to hear the secondary channels.
