Fastest most compact 4 tb hard drive I owned at half the cost. I own one from Amazon as well best buys implementation is far better. It’s easier to add remove the drive, smaller and comes with the proper cord for the iops of something like 7000 /4500 gbps.
Suggest they release a dual card model. It is usb-c gen 3.2 = 20gbps aka the one before they finally forced them to use usb 4.
This isn’t 40 gbs but you will never need 40 gbs fastest name drives, which honestly you couldn’t tell apart read at 10 gbps so this will suffice for at least not for 5-10 years I would guess? Even then hard drives at this speed already are instant and not the bottleneck they used to be.
Btw why is insignia the only brand that honestly states their spec.

Outstanding M.2 Enclosure At Even Twice The Price!

This really should be 4.5 stars but I can't give half stars. This is an outstanding external M.2 external drive enclosure, especially for the price. My only quibble with it is that the locking mechanism for the M.2 drive is very easy bend since it is just a plastic. To be fair, if you use the included thermal pad, it would not be necessary to use this if it broke, but it 'could' be an issue since there is not a backup and I have no idea where you could even get anything like it.

Saved My Data, But Sacrificed the Fastener Pin

The motherboard on my old laptop went out, and I was worried I had lost all my data. After some hassle trying to get one of these from Amazon, I ran down to Best Buy to get one. I got it back home and got my SSD in it easily enough. Unfortunately, the little locking pin was more trouble than it was worth. I had the hardest time getting it into place, and it ended up breaking off once I did. Thankfully what remained was enough to hold the SSD in place for me to use.
Aside from that little gripe, the enclosure works beautifully! I managed to recover a good 400 GB of programs and personal data I thought was lost forever. Transfer speed is incredibly fast, and the simplicity of plug and play is a nice touch as well.
If you don't mind the caveat of a rather fragile locking pin or have another way to secure your drive if it breaks, this is an excellent way to use a spare SSD without having to install it in your PC or laptop. It would be nice if there was a sturdier way to secure it, though; maybe a metal screw or something.

I was worried this wasn't what I was looking for when my laptop went down and I had all my documents on it. I opened up the laptop to pull out the hard drive and there wasn't one. I was about to lose my mind. Where were my documents? After a few Google searches to make sure the information I had was correct, I pulled the SSD out of my laptop and headed for Best Buy to get this device. It was simple to plug and play and there were my documents. I was relieved and it works great. I don't know what the more expensive, faster ones are all about. This one works great and it's just what I needed.

Benchmarks, file transfer, and plastic pin

I will preface this by saying I am not a computer or IT expert. I'm posting this because before buying this enclosure I couldn't find any review with benchmarks in it. I did the following tests using the 10Gbp USB 3 port on an HP Omen Obelisk desktop with 32GB RAM and 9th gen i7 eight core processor. I had a 2TB Silicon Power model U90 (9% full) in the enclosure. See screenshot for benchmarks using CrystalDiskMark 8 and SSD Benchmark. For file transfer test, I transferred to/from my 250GB internal SSD (SK hynix) that was 62% full. I used 2 directories from my SSD in read and write transfer tests. 1st transfer test was using a 14.9 GB folder with 59 files (mostly MP4 videos). 2nd test used a 4.46GB folder with 1661 files that were primarily MP3's. "Silicon (M:) to adobe Temp" = read. "adobe Temp to Silicon(M:)" = write. I have provided screenshots of speeds with graph from Windows Explorer. Test 2 was pretty consistent with transfer speeds; much less than maximal, but I think that is typical when you have a lot of smaller files. The write speed for test 1 was very fast using a folder with more GB transferred than test 2, but much larger file size. The read was much slower and inconsistent for test 1, which is an odd result. I suspect that my internal drive (which is much older than the one in the enclosure) was not able to keep up with the transfer speed; it was also more than half full and fuller SSDs tend to slow down some. But I really can't be sure. This was not a perfectly scientific analysis, but hopefully helps some in the absence of a professional analysis. Overall, the performance seems pretty good compared to other enclosures I have seen and used. Hope this is helpful.
By the way, in regards to the plastic pin that holds in the drive:
Its true that it might be easy to bend or break the tab on the top off. However, the tab is not the thing intended to hold the drive in place. There is small slit in the pin that you slide over the semicircle mounting part of the drive before you insert or twist the pin into the enclosure hole. The tab is just there to make twisting the pin easier; however, if it breaks off, you should still be able to secure the drive. That being said, it is still a weird finicky way to secure the drive that is not explained well in the instructions.
Overall, given that this enclosure costs less than most and and can be easily returned to Best Buy if you don't like it, it seems like a good deal to me.

I’ve been using the Insignia™ M.2 NVMe to USB-C SSD Enclosure for a few weeks now, and overall, I’m quite satisfied with its performance. The enclosure is well-built with a sturdy aluminum body that feels durable and provides good protection for my SSD. The installation was straightforward and tool-free, which made the setup process quick and easy.
One of the standout features is the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, which offers impressive data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps. This has significantly improved my workflow, especially when transferring large files. The inclusion of both a USB-C cable and a USB-A adapter adds versatility, allowing me to use the enclosure with various devices.
However, I did encounter a minor issue with the enclosure getting a bit warm during extended use, but it hasn’t affected performance so far. Additionally, while the LED indicators are helpful, they could be a bit brighter for better visibility.
Overall, the Insignia™ M.2 NVMe to USB-C SSD Enclosure is a reliable and efficient solution for anyone looking to expand their storage options. I would definitely recommend it to other

I purchased this to help me migrate my OS drive from an existing WD Black M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 3.0x4 256GB to a new Samsung 980 M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 3.0x4 1TB. The adapter recognized the Samsung and I was able to transfer data over via Samsung Migration tool without issue. The plan was after I did this I would put my old WD Black in this enclosure and use it as an external drive. Well just as other reviewers have mentioned, this enclosure does not like WD drives. It sees it in the drive manager but does not populate in file explorer like I expected. While it worked for the migration it won't work for me long haul, I checked for a firmware update but came up empty. My only recourse is to return it and find something else that is compatible.

If you need an M.2 NVME to USB-C solution faster than Amazon can deliver (especially for multiple module lengths) and DO NOT need maximum TB3/4 performance this is an affordably priced, reliable, readily available product I recommend for most users. With The Crucial P5 1TB NVME I tested it got extremely hot and transfer rates were much slower than expected on my 2023 14" M1 Pro MBP but worked in a pinch; no issues with excessive heat on smaller capacity, 2260 Kioxia drive I tested after the P5.

The good:
Worked like a charm to clone a 128 GB Kingston NVMe out of an Asus laptop to a 256 GB Silicon Power NVMe. Used Macrium to clone and AOMEI Partition Assistant to move partitions around to extend the C drive volume.
The bad:
The fastener design is not great and prone to breakage (you can see the white line of weakened plastic after one use). I much prefer the rubber design in the UGREEN version I have from Amazon.

I used this case to upgrade the SSD in my laptop. The case is mostly metal with some plastic, but constructed well. It has ventilation on both sides, and takes a USB-C transfer cable, provided with the purchase. The SSD card was easily installed and held secured in place with a plastic tab. It has solid pin connections and the upgrade went well. I have other removable storage, so I haven't used this other than for the upgrade, but it could easily turn your M.2 SSD card into portable storage, and would be well protected.

i'm really happy to see this and jumped immediately to buy this ,, since i not seen anything like this months before .. when i was looking for way to create backups with m.2 .. and this thing was just plug it in and you are working and is perfect ...
though $20 is not a sale price ,, it is a lot cheeper than anything else out there .. since m.2 came out ,, everything for it is really expensive and priced ludicrously high ... and i do not care about performance and do not keep it connected constantly .. but use when i want to do backup .. or other things . .
i like to thank other reviewers that warn about the plastic tab to hold the m.2 in .. everyone should look at their pictures and reviews to be careful with it .. i also added a photo to show where it is ..
thus be very careful to remove it,, warning ,, do not grab it on end of tab but only on the center of it to twist off .. i bet if you break it ,, you could just get a tiny screw and just use that to work by forcing a screw to thread into plastic and that would be a better solution too .. use your common sense .. if you do try it
