It will only identify your drive as a generic drive.. The flawed firmware will cause the drive to eventually only be used in read only mode. You need a Thunderbolt 3 drive enclosure like the Sabrent one to actually updated the SSD firmware. I still need to return this item that was useless for my needs.

Please ensure that your Samsung 990plus SSD falls within these supported sizes and that it is properly seated in the enclosure. This one worked perfectly with some minor adjustments. Then I used the old drive as a spare drive!!

It was also missing the retaining clip. I managed to find something to make work with what I already had available. Wasn’t worth replacing for such a small inconvenience.

I don't know when I will use this again, but I am glad it worked for my need.
