Apple cable was about $5 more so I bought cheaper one. I plug everything and I found it only works when I set to to mirror the monitor. What I wanted to do is to use external monitor and my laptop together so I can put all the menu windows in one and actual working document in the other. I tried it with Apple cable which is the basically the same, it works perfectly. I guess you get what paid. Don't bother getting this one.

DVI is not my preferred cable but this dongle has been very handy as a consultant needing to display form different computers onto a variety of screens in multiple locations. It's annoying that you have to buy all these adapters for Macs. I still think the adapter is way overpriced, but at least you can save 4 or 5 bucks by buying generic without having to worry about whether or not it will work.

The adapter is not an "Active" adapter and will only work in certain cases where a passive display connection is supported. If your application requires an "Active" adapter then this solution will not work. Either way it is better to go with an active adapter to avoid this problem all together.
