They were to allow my wife to watch TV without the volume disturbing me. They serve that function but they have very short range so it was necessary to run sound wires across the room to within a couple of feet of our bed to get clear reception.

However, connection between right earphone and over-the-head slide broke after two weeks, leaving earphone dangling by a wire; happens repeatedly now. And soft padding on left earphone came off and was hard to replace. Worst, though, is that sound is not crisp. I am hard-of-hearing, but Sony sound was adequate. This sound quality is so fuzzy and lacking in highs that I literally cannot discern the words in many conversations.

Three people have tried to fix the problem without success. I have not been able to come to the store due to a health situation but will when possible. Will recommend when it is solved.
