Quit working after 6 plays

I have changed the CD and it still doesn't work, until a day later (same CD) when it does. I have changed the batteries several times (it makes no difference). I have played the CD on a permanent CD player and it works fine. So, some days it works and some days it doesn't. Sometimes it works for 15 minutes and then stops working. Sometimes it works through a whole CD. I know portable CD players are not popular now but I have a special need for this type. I will try another store.
