THIS STEREO, THE BEST BUY INSIGNIA NS - P5113, IS THE VERY BEST STEREO I'VE EVER HAD THE PLEASURE TO OWN. I REALLY NEVER USED FINER STEREO IN MY LIFE. BOTH THE CD AND THE RADIO REALLY PERFORM GREAT! THAT AND THE HEADPHONE ARE LONG LASTING. I STILL HAD TO REPLACE THEM WITH TWO OTHER HEADPHONE. THAT'S A TOTAL OF THREE HEADPHONE BEFORE THE STEREO ITSELF WENT DOWN AS WELL. THE LIFETIME OF THE STEREO FOR ME EXCEEDED ITS WARRENTY. I'VE HAD TWO SO FAR AND MINE LASTED 6-9 MONTHS.

This is one of the rare CD players that includes MP3 and radio. My first requirement was to have a remote control which this product also has, probably the only one on the market that does!

It doesn't do much good to be so generous with the included functions and abilities if the menu system and multi-selection buttons make the simplest operation a contest. After two hours of reading instructions and trying to locate and play a particular track, either on CD or Mp3 disk, I still had to refer to the instructions in order to avoid what I didn't want to play and find what I was after. Too bad. If they had added about three more buttons with single functions--like PLAY, STOP, SEARCH--it would be a nice unit. The skip protection is very impressive and I was pleasantly surprised by the comfort and quality of the headphones that come with it. I never did get the remote to work. Maybe if I had spent a couple more hours .....? I would recommend this to a friend if it was a fifth grade nerd. Nobody at the Scented Valley Rest Home should buy one.

Like other reviewers, the unit I originally bought had isses (would'nt play anything but the first track, got stuck on search, etc.) I actually returned two before I got one that worked. I have no complaints about the customer service and return process however. I have had this unit for several months and it generally works well. I do regret that it does not remember where you left off when you turn the unit off like the Panasonics did. My only other complaint is that the buttons are very easy to bump and accidently turn the unit the off. I use it to listen to books while I am working at laying tile or painting and that can be annoying.

Another Best To Add To My CD-Players Collection

Yes! This is an excellent CD-player, it's Sooo hard these days to find Cd-players out there that recognize ATRAC-format, then plays them, but this cd-player does, and she goes everywhere I go ' cuz I just can't be without this cd-player.

    inconsistent MP3 performance

Works fine as a CD player and radio. I dig that it has a line out jack in addition to the headphone jack. The little "remote control" wire is cool, too. Everything seems to work well on this unit, except for an odd glitch regarding MP3 CD playback. Every MP3 CD I put in, it does this odd thing where (1) when it first reads the CD, it says there are more MP3s on the disk than reality (e.g., I put a CD in that has 123 MP3 tracks, but the player says there are 150). (2) Then, it actually plays FEWER than the total number of MP3 tracks. (i.e., you start from the beginning, it plays tracks one through seven, then it will skip track eight. Actually, it puts track nine in the eight slot. It will play a few more in sequence, then skip another. By the end of the CD, numerous songs have vanished / cannot be found by this player. Therefore, if you are trying to find a specific track, this player throws off all the numbering, such that what should be track 108 is now designated 96 or something.) Who knows which tracks will become invisible? It's like a musical inverse of Russian roulette. The same MP3 CDs, in my Panasonic SL-SV570, play consistently. Wish they still made that unit... I would never buy a Sony portable CD player, because those things put out a loud beep every time you press a button (track change, volume, etc.)--annoying!

Plays all types of CDs including homemade. Use it to feed into a larger amplifier for presentation as well as personal use with ear phones. Powered by both battery and AC input. Great product!

This player works well and sounds great! It has a radio feature that I was surprised to find in a CD Player. The player does not "skip" when moved around, and that is good for walking or running around.

    Not for Audio Books!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I listen to audio books on CD's and MP3 player. When my Sony CD player finally quit after being dropped, I thought this Insignia product would be a good option for both CD's and MP3 discs. But, big problem!! When you turn off the device, it always returns to track 1. If you put on pause, it will stay on pause until the battery runs out. So, when "life" interrupts, you either have to risk running down the battery on pause -- or stopping, noting the current track, and then fast forwarding to return to where you stopped. Oh, yes, if I'm on track 80 of 99, I must fast forward 80 tracks -- the device doesn't go backward from zero. I'm going today to get another Sony, and doubt if Best Buy will allow a return on this Insignia product. If anyone knows how to solve these problems, please let me know!!

    DO NOT BUY THIS PLAYER

We bought this player on sale, it worked until the batteries were used up, and said "low battery". We changed batteries, it still says "low battery" and then turns off. Tried several different pairs of new batteries, same thing. Tried with a DC power adapter, same thing, Low Battery and turns off. Returned to Best Buy, where they "allowed" us to pay an additional $18 to get another one, since they were no longer on sale. This one did the exact same thing. Taking it back tomorrow, again.
