What's the Extra Plastic Notch w/ Copper?

I have the Charging Station pack and I got an Extra battery as well. This extra battery has this extra plastic notch with copper on top, and I have no idea what function that serves, but the batteries that came with the Charging Station do not have this piece. Battery Life is so-so. When I used AA batteries I can go a week, but the rechargeable batteries have maybe gone as far as 5 days, but seems more like 3-4 days. I play games, like BO3, about 2-3 hours a night. Other times it's used for Hulu, Netflix and we turn the controller off after choosing a show. I've even gone as far as turning of Vibration on many games. Despite it's faults, I would still recommend this product.
