    Easy Install / Good performance

After a couple of years of having to struggle to understand the conversation especially in sit-com situations, and after quite a bit of research, I took the plunge and purchased these headphones. The installation was quite simple - they simply plugged in to the digital output on my TV and immediately paired up. The sound is good and volume adjustment is easy on the right headphone and is not affected by the TV volume control, so others can set the volume to their liking. I was unsure how all of this would work, but it was quite simple. The only negative thing is that they are a bit heavy and not the most comfortable to wear for long periods. But, I tend to get up and walk around occasionally when watching TV, so just pulling them off for a few minutes is simple enough. I haven't used them long enough at any one time to comment on how long the charge will last, but I'm rating them a 4, just because others have done so. They do seem to charge rather quickly. Probably the best feature is that they block out most of my wife's talk frequencies, which should really come in handy during football season! I can hear her, but she doesn't know it, so she doesn't talk to me. For the money, probably the best value I have seen.

    Insignia v. Sony

If you are buying a wireless headset for a television at Best Buy you have two choices displayed in the television section. This is a comparative review of the previous Sony unit, the current ( circa October 2018) unit and this Insignia. I have owned all three. I have only had the Insignia one day. I may default to a wired set for quality. I have been buying Sony since 1970. A reel to reel recorder, two wired headsets that lasted 40 years ( and still worked), currently a television and a DVD player. Two years ago I bought the previous Sony wireless for television. It plugged in and worked. Excellent sound at any distance. No power button or searching for a signal. Only one problem. I am very careful as another brand set had broken simply setting it down. After 18 months this Sony broke at the frame. That model rested the speakers in two cradles. All the stress was at the weakest point in the frame. The frame was a U channel of paper thin plastic. I tried to glue it but there was not enough surface. So a working $150 set is dead by design. Legally defects in design and manufacturing are covered by consumer law. This was not a defect, it was a design to break. I went to Best Buy ( October 2018 ) to get another of the same model ( the same with a number changed). I was told the model WHRF400 was the replacement. Both models were on display. This model appeared to fix the frame problem. Also it hangs on a post for no stress. First there are settings that are difficult to operate. Each time you use it you must turn it on. It had poor sound quality and a set on bongo drums playing in the background. The bongo was from the first use. Often the sound cuts out for a few seconds even when sitting still right in front of the television. The volume is almost impossible to operate without removing the headset. The previous Sony model was simple. A large wheel that is easy to use. I change volume often, sometimes just to back up and hear a sequence of speech. I am 70 and have hearing defects. This model volume could only be located by using one fingernail to find a joint (legal in CA) then locating the volume roller with another finger. Then my male fingers would not fit in the recess for the roller. I called Sony about the bongo sound. After a long discussion they set me with a mailing code. They would replace the faulty headset; I would not have a headset for two weeks. Unacceptable to my roommate or my hearing. Best Buy sales said Sony also charges postage both ways. After two months I returned the set to Best Buy. I was going to exchange it for the same. The salesman said this new model is being returned constantly. I had bought the two year warranty. Best Buy returned all my money including the warranty with the exception of about $1 prorated. Returned to Store Credit only. IMPORTANT: Buy the two year warranty. I am now trying the Insignia model NS-HAWHP2. (December 8, 2018) Why so many letters? It has better sound than the current Sony. I have not used it for DVD music so cannot judge the sound quality. One day of use only. One confusion is the input button. This set is designed to use either Optical input or the wire input. The directions are confusing not the operation. A button on the headset toggles between the inputs which is displayed on the tower. A white bar at the top is the wired input. The same white bar on the bottom is the Optical input. This selection should only be on the tower not the headset. I expect some people have multiple sources and switch without getting out of the chair. The volume control is better, an Up/Down bar, yet not as easy as the older Sony. I cannot give an Insignia recommendation except it is better than the current Sony. We have a problem Houston. Tech designers have forgotten how to KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid. Also please have sample people, over 60, read the directions and then have an English graduate correct the directions. My son has a Stanford English degree and a masters in Journalism from Berkeley. His job at a tech company was to write the operating manuals. Okay so $130,000 to write directions. Younger people may expect a product to break at 18 months. I bought a sewing machine in a cabinet, at Goodwill. I bought it for the cabinet. It had the original direction book. Guaranteed for 25 years. It is now about 100 years old and still operates, with the exception of some worn rubber roller parts which I expect can only be made with a 3D printer.

    room for improvement

Overall these are great headphones, however, I have noticed there is a little room for improvement. These headphones have a good overall design, the plastic they are made out of does not feel cheap, and it feels very sturdy when stretching them to place them over my head. The foam that goes against your ears is also comfortable and is made of a nice material that does not make you sweat. The sound quality is good but that is where there is room for improvement. The bass is punchy but not distorted, even at a high volume. I would not recommend these headphones to an audiophile but I would recommend them to the average person trying to listen to the television without disturbing others. The instructions provided could have been more detailed. Myself being tech-savvy, could not get the optical audio to work. The headphones also charge rather quickly. I am getting a full charge in under two hours. Battery life is also good, I managed to watch for several hours before putting them on charge. And not even because they needed to be charged, but because the base that stores them also serves as the wireless charger. The wireless range is also very impressive. I had no sound quality issues or other complications in range at all unlike other wireless headphones I’ve had. These would make a great gift for weddings, graduations, etc. Or even as a gift for the late night binge watcher in your family.

Solved my problem and work well

I used the optical input to get the audio signal from the Directv box and it was very easy to setup. I find them to be comfortable and have good sound quality, but I do have some issues. One, the minimum volume level is still pretty high. I wish the volume could go a little lower. Two, sometimes the volume comes on at maximum level right when you turn them on. I've learned NOT to be wearing them when I turn them on! Finally, as others have said the controls are a bit finicky to use. I think I'm going to stick on a couple of those tiny rubber dots like are used on cabinet doors.

For those who live with roommates or friends or family in close quarters, these headphones are great for when you want to watch television without disturbing others. Not only are these headphones pretty comfortable, but the sound quality is pretty good, though not great. The range on them is pretty good, too, but I live in an apartment and haven't been able to fully test out the range (works well for at least 30 feet). Where these headphones shine is with the comfort. I have a large head, and these headphones fit very, very comfortably. Being that they are "over the ear" headphones is pretty nice, too. I've also noticed little to no TV sound "lag", which is also a bonus. Probably the only thing you might be worried about is if you are watching television with these things on and are laughing, other people nearby might be curious what you're laughing about.

Review for Insignia™ - NS-HAWHP2 Wireless Over-the-Ear Headphones - Black These headphones are great if you want to watch TV without disturbing others. Better yet, they’re great for exercising in front of the TV while still being able to hear it without blasting the volume. I like that they have multiple means for connecting to various systems. If you have a digital audio out available, that is the best, but the cable is not included. If you have a headphones out (1/8” jack) there is an included cable for that, as well as a standard red/white RCA cable. If you have a home stereo system connected, you can also daisy-chain this unit (you’ll need an extra set of RCA cables) so that you can choose whether to listen through the headphones or the stereo system without rewiring each time. Set up, docking, and pairing on these headphones is pretty easy, but you may not think so if you try to read the instructions included. Insignia only needs to sit 10 people down with the instructions to determine where they could be clearer. They should spend the time on testing their documentation to avoid problems down the line! These headphones work well for their purpose and I’m happy with them. I dinged one star because the user documentation is so poorly presented.

So, it's not what I expected but decent quality. It was easy to set up, and easy to use. The volume is not what I expected I had to turn the TV up to 70 while a vacuum was running, the volume on the headphones were at max. WIth that being said I was using the headphone jack instead of the digital. The ease of set up is nice. It would be great if they had a bluetooth feature to connect to your phone or to the tv, but overall good product.

The good: good choices for hooking up to the TV very clear understandable sound comfortable Problem: the buttons to change volume cannot be felt clearly when headphone is worn (and not as easy to adjust as a wheel type control) so you have to take it off first. I glued on a rubber disc to make it more usable and am getting along OK.
