The elastic on the hooks acts like a shock absorber for the device. I was glad to still see this kind of case still available when I bought my new Samsung S9-FE. Unfortunately, this time around, the magnets cause S-pen problems. It seems to still be just fine when I use my fingers, but not if I'm using the stylus. If the tablet is in the case, the magnets create several dead spots along the right side of the screen, that just won't work with the S-pen. And two less-responsive (but not completely dead) spots on the left corners. You can see it in the Notes app when you just scribble-fill an entire note-page.
