It plugs into the USB port and Windows should auto configure it with default drivers so it is effectively a plug and play device. It's best to plug it directly into a laptop USB port and not into a USB port hub. It gets the job done nicely.

We are required to be hardwired for security purposes. I bought this adapter and it works awesome! ! Problem solved. Highly recommended!
