    When you don't need a hub/dock

I am impressed with Insignia at the moment. In this case, this is a USB-C to A adapter needed for newer devices with Thunderbolt 3/USB-C connections (in particular, in my case, the newest MacBook Pros). I'm wary of third party peripherals usually. Yes, Apple adapters and such seem overpriced (and may be) but I have no doubt they will work fully and safely. But because of the price I decided to try this one for those times I may be on the go or don't have a use to connect a complete home docking system to my Mac. Understand, I come from using an almost decade old Mac with USB 2 ports but this simple adapter made file sharing laughably fast. I've not experimented with too large files but I have seen gigabytes of data be transferred in seconds, an amazing feat from what I was used to. I don't know if the complete bandwidth is being utilized but my experience so far is that it's using near enough for my satisfaction. Even if you have a dock at home, even a travel dock/hub, I recommend having a small adapter like this as well. Needs no power, it's a direct line connection and easily utilized. Until USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 becomes ubiquitous these adapters will be necessary. Don't be afraid to go with Insignia. The only caveat I will mention is I'm not sure about such adapters when syncing information. Even Apple has adapters they don't suggest for data syncing (such as syncing your iPhone with your Mac). Do a little research to make sure such devices are heavy duty enough for that.

My computer has two USB 3 ports on it but 1 is an USB-c connection. So I went looking for an adapter because USB 2 is just to slow. I ran into many that was $19.99. So I found this one for $9.99 but it said it was MAC use. Then I started to see all of them said that. So I went ahead and got it for My Windows 10 and it works great. I get the same speed with it as I do with the other USB connection without the adapter. Thank god for this adapter much faster. Now I with both of my hard drives coping files form one to the other I get around 100MBs of data copied instead of 18 to 24 with USB2. The speed does very for hard drive to hard drive or thumb drive. So you may get a faster or slower speed.

This is for my Macbook, which, of course, only has a single USB Type C port. And, like many people, I have peripherals which are USB Type A. Sometimes wifi isn't the most reliable, and a direct connection is the best option, and in those instances, I'm glad to have this little cable. Previously I had invested quite a bit more money in a hub that plugged into the Macbook and then offered a couple of USB A ports, but the hub was rather, um, delicate, and in spite of using only with kid gloves, it didn't last very long. I'm much more hopeful that this durable little cord will do the trick until I'm ready to upgrade my laptop again...

If your getting anything with usb-c then don't leave the store without at least one of these cables and your going to regret after getting home if you don't also pick up one of the multi-hub adapters along with this cable because you will quickly find out this is a product you WANT to buy one of each kind of new cable because USB-C is the new standard and it is safe to invest in this cable type moving forward... There are differences in the cables so make sure if your looking for 3.1 2nd gen or 3.0 1st gen... I bought this for a Samsung Chromebook Plus and it works perfect for 2.0 and 3.0 drives at 2.0 speed

What can I say about this product. The new MacBook Pro I bought my wife on Saturday does not have USB slots. A converter is required to be able to connect external drives , mouse etc. I was told by my salesman that this product worked just as well as the one manufactured by Apple at a quarter of the price. He was correct for $10.00 we were able to connect all of our USB devices to my wife's MacBook Pro. I would recommend this product to anyone needing to connect a USB device to their late model Mac or MacBookPro .

Picked this guy up for my father who recently got a new MacBook. Despite it being 3rd party (since Apple devices can be finicky with them), my father reported no problems and it does the job of allowing him to plug in his USB drives into his MacBook. At $5, it was a great deal ($10 regular is still better than Apple's price). Keep in mind transfer speeds of your device will depend on the device you plug into the adapter (a USB 2.0 device will not get an extra boost from being plugged into a 3.0 adapter). Overall, very satisfied with the value.

Since the new MacBook Pro laptops have only a limited number and type of ports buying a USB-C to USB-A adapter is a necessary evil. The adapter, when it recognizes a device, functions as expected. However, it failed to recognize many of my flash drives (usually the 3.0 drives). It did recognize my Time Machine hard drive. I have read that the Apple brand adapter has similar problems. In any case, you will need to buy an adapter like this for your MacBook laptop. This one is half the price of the Apple one.

I love this thing to death I even bought a hub to plug into the side of my MacBook and because I have so many regular USB devices and charging things I use this all the time as well as the hub. You can not and will not be disappointed in this thing its nice for quick stuff, for me my hub has my Jump Drive and Mouse Adapter in it all the time so anything else I use this little beauty for. You will not be disappointed at all.

I have an Asus Transformer Book T100HA (newer and more advanced brother of the T100TA) which includes a USB Type-C port built in to the tab and a standard USB port on the keyboard dock. I decided to give this a try regardless of the fact that it says "for Mac", and it works FLAWLESSLY on Windows 10, using my new Seagate Backup Plus Slim. For those reading this and confused, it will help you use the USB Type-C as a traditional USB port.

For $6, this was a bargain to convert my two USB C to A. With two of these, now I have a total of 5 USB 3.0 ports on my laptop. This sets me up for many peripheral options, and Oculus Rift. BTW, USB C/Thunderbolt are the same on PC and Mac. I have an Acer Predator Helios 500 laptop. I did not want to use hubs or splitters on my USB A ports because that would limit my options for unpowered USB devices.

This will work with ANY computer (MAC or PC) that has a USB 3.1 adapter port. I use it with a j5Create Dual HDMI adapter to connect my Lenovo Yoga 900 to TWO monitors plus my laptop screen which is GREAT as I have been looking for a way to do this. Watch when buying this. It was I believe $9.99 in the store but there is one from j5Create (the dual HDMI monitor creator) that sells for either $69 or $79. WATCH WHICH ONE YOU PICK UP!! This is the correct one and works GREAT. Don't let the low price discourage you!

It's plastic and feels like it will break at anytime. The guy at the store said it's nice for the price and that I should go with it, even though the apple adaptor was only $5 more. He basically made no other choice for me. The bulkiness of the product does not fit the MacBook style. The pigtail of it is either too long or too short. A slim design would be been better. I have no complaints about the usability of the product. Just the design needs work. I guess you get what you paid for.

When my Apple TV (Gen 4) froze, I was quite concerned. It did not have the connection ports of its' predecessors to allow me to reboot it. The buttons on the remote were fruitless as well. What I needed was a USB type C cord to connect to my PC. After getting this little adapter I was able to use a USB cord to hook it up, restart it with iTunes, and get it going. Thanks to the adapter I had no repair charges and was able to keep all my settings in tact. I'm so glad my local Best Buy had it in stock.

Im not going to lie I was very disappointed that my 2017 12" MacBook didn't have any USB ports, but then the Geek Squad agent told me about this adapter that would work with my MacBook...it is a lifesaver!!! I use it all the time to connect my apple products when I want to sync them and when I want to use a corded mouse with my computer (yes I am old school lol) I don't particularly like wireless mouses. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend!!

You get what you pay for with this one. It does it's job, so my review is still positive. It's a bit nerve-wracking, though. The ampunt of force you have to put into pulling the USB type A device out of the slot for it made me nervous that I was going to do damage, but I got used to it enough that I don't think it'll be a problem for me. If you have the finesse to borderline yank something out without actually yanking it, and wouldn't rather pay for a better quality cable, I'd recommend this one.

This adapter is pretty straight forward, just allows you to plug a regular USB port into your surface or any other USB-c device. There’s a $20 Microsoft version that’s more flush and doesn’t have a wire, which is really the only negative thing about this adapter over the other. If a wire doesn’t bother you, then save $10 and get this one, otherwise, go for the more expensive adapter then.

Thank you unnecessary apple dongle you changed my life. Other laptops allow you to simple connect your current mainstream usb, but not apple... because they are currently valued at 1 trillion dollars. So pay up if you want to be a hipster like me. We bought this Adapter for a new Chromebook - we use it to plug in the old-style USB transmitter/receiver from an old cordless mouse. It works great. I like that the new USB can be plugged in without regard to orientation - i.e., there is no need to look to see if it is being plugged in upside down, since it can be plugged in either way. The short length is a plus for our Chromebook application.

I haven't followed up on USB-C flash drive prices, but this adapter was far cheaper. I have quite a few regular USB 3.0 and 2.0 flash drives and I am able to use them on my 2017 MacBook Pro which only has USB-C ports. It fits very easily into a pocket in a laptop bag, but I usually just keep it in the original box as I use a backpack.

I can't swear if I'm getting the full 5 Gbps USB 3.0 throughput promised in the description - but it's fast enough to transfer files from my USB 3.0 external drive to my 2018 Macbook Pro, and it's MORE than fast enough to attach a printer or a mouse to! Given it's only $4.99, I'd call that a bargain no matter what its throughput is....
