Great Alarm Clock (4.5/5)
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this speaker about two weeks ago planning to use it as an alarm clock for my desk. While it does have numerous features, including Google Assistant, I find its appearance and display to be its highest qualities. I personally enjoy that asking questions like, "What's the weather today," will show up on the display beneath the time. This makes it easy to not only hear. but see for a longer period of time. The sound quality is slightly better than you would expect from a $50 speaker. It is clear and not distorted at high volumes but my speaker is obsolete due to the larger bookshelf speakers I use instead. If you are looking to use this as the room's main speaker, you will likely be disappointed. If you are a fan of voice commands, then this clock will be an instant favorite. Being able to get into bed and tell your clock to set your alarm for you is a satisfying feeling. The alarm sound is loud and, unless you sleep like a rock, will wake you in the morning. All around, this smart speaker and alarm clock is a worthwhile purchase if you are looking to upgrade from your 70's style clock. With voice commands, Google Assistant, and a companion app, you will have the full control you are looking for from this purchase.

Good form factor, buggy software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device literally caught my eye with the clock display. Seemed like a good fit to replace the old one on the nightstand and it does that and then some: speakers sound great, it streams MPR, sets alarms, and most importantly starts up my Chromecast for the gf to binge watch whatever. However, its seems its several versions of Google Assistant behind the official Google devices and I don't know what incentive there will be for BBY to keep it up to date with latest builds. Currently it doesn't make calls, send texts or stream for HBO Go. There also seems to be a bit of conflict with voice command detection when the speakers are at high volume or when it has recently received a command. I think most people will be happy with this product and I certainly think its worth the $40 (open box) I paid, but if you're looking for a polished experience this will not provide that yet and I don't know that it ever will. BBY should release the firmware source code and let the community keep these up to date.

Great Google Home Speaker
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first smart speaker is the Google Home, then a Mini and now this Insignia. I like this one be best and it cost less! Insignia updated the firmware in August so that you can place voice calls and other things. Now it is great and I can control all kinds of Smart Home devices. The sound is good and I like the clock display. It was very bright but you can dim it. I just purchased 2 more to spread around the house!

Not impressed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought two when they were on sale- small for my bedroom and large for my kitchen- great prices and easy set-up. However the problems with Google that I have found are many. Allow me to list: 1) Display is BRIGHT and I cannot get it to tone down. 2) I have to say "OK Google" which is not...mouth friendly. You cannot change that. If you have it set to OK Google and accidentally say Ok Google now play..., the response is "I can't fine Now play smooth jazz" so you repeat. 3) "ok Google, play smooth jazz" "OK, here are some songs" and it plays classical. 4) Play music loud, then try to get its attention to turn it down...and it can't hear you. Try the buttons...no response. 5) I set it to give me the weather when I say Good Morning, and I STILL get the stock market info. Alexa works sooo much better! Considering how well Google is doing, you would think the technology would be better. I would not recommend this until the technology improves.

Insignia bluetooth alarm clock w/Google Assist
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found this speaker with google assistant useful for exactly what it's made for, an alarm clock. Don't expect to get top dollar speakers out of this little device. We used it for our infant while bathing him. We'd throw on some music to keep him calm and relaxed and then set an alarm on the Insignia just by telling google to do so, since holding up a small squirmy child in the sink with both hands, fooling around with devices isn't an option. The speakers were good enough to keep him happy. Upon turning it up high, you'll find highs and lows missing that would be found in higher tier, more expensive speakers. We have had the speaker do weird things like we'd be sitting in another room talking and all the sudden google would announce "Playing Fast Car by Tracy Chapman" even though we didn't ask it to do so.. That freaked us out a bit, so we usually turn the mic off now, because it's always listening and that's pretty weird in itself. If this is the type of thing you're looking for then pick one up. You're not going to throw it outside and have a block party with the neighbors but if you need hands free assistant at an affordable price, this will do just fine.

Good working speaker for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased 2 of these and 1 of the larger Insignia Voice speakers. Needed a new alarm clock and thought this was a great deal at $25 for the small and $30 for the larger unit. I use Google assistant to turn lights on and off throughout the house coupled through Samsung SmartThings. Google just recently released the ability to issue 2 different commands by saying: "Hey Google" "Turn on the kitchen lights and Turn on the living room lamps" Unfortunately the software in the Insignia units aren't allowing this multi-tasking commands. This currently is my only complaint this far. Sound works great and they look decent enough for nightstand alarm clocks. Placed the larger in the master bedroom, and the two smaller units in the kids rooms. The smaller units have a USB connection for charging devices, but the larger doesn't have the USB which I found odd but this was a plus when buying it and opening the packaging and finding the USB port as I wasn't aware of it when I initially bought them. I hope they continue to do software upgrades like the Google Home and Home mini does. I'd bump this up to a 5 star if it would do the multi-tasking.

Great Speaker/Clock when under $30
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first smart speaker purchase and I am not disappointed. I had a Timex alarm clock for the past 15 years and it finally died. Had been looking for a new one when I came across this wonderful unit. The only smart Google Home compatible speaker that has an LED clock. Although the LEDs are BRIGHT, they can be turned down buy holding your finger on the O touch button and tapping the + or - as the default will light up your room at night. The unit is a Mono speaker, but still sounds great for its size. It is a little muddy without any real definition in the upper treble range, but perfectly acceptable for the size. I have been using this for a few months now and have not had any issues at all with it. You can expect the setup to take 10-15 mins, and make sure you just leave your phone alone while it is updating the firmware. You can setup multiple alarms and if you link a supported music service you can have music play as your alarm. It is really great to just speak out to and have it Snooze the alarm or turn it off. I will be adding smart WiFi plugs for the lights and other stuff so I can use the routines in the morning.

Good alternative to the more expensive products
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a decent little speaker, I've used it since getting it earlier thus month and I've been pleasantly surprised. It's incredibly easy to setup and once done you open up your hone to a plethora of knowledge. Need to know the weather in Greenland, just ask and google assistant will give you precise accurate information. While not the biggest selling assistant it's certainly the best of the bunch. It hits the answers with more accuracy and the fact you can have a contextual conversation is fantastic. Aesthetics wise it's not bad, it looks like an alarm clock, has a clear and easy to read face with time and weather, it looks quite good. Sound wise it's not as good as hoped. It's not bad by any means but doesn't have the volume for me, but if thus is going to be next to you then that shouldn't be an issue. It can sometimes be a little slower to respond to voice commands but that could just be an internet issue also. Overall a really good Bluetooth speaker that not only has the excellent Google assistant but also open you up to smart home opportunities

Great in home Google assistant
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Plugged in the device and installed google home. The app found it right away. It set up the connection to wifi and then asked me to say OK google and Hey google to get a "voice match" set up. After setup, it gave me a message in google home that it was having trouble finding the device, but it was up and working in a minute or two. When saying "hey google" or "ok google" it won't alert you that it's listening with a sound. The lights on top will come on. If you hesitate too long, it will tell you it's listening. I did ask it to call my husband and it told me it couldn't make calls yet. If you're wanting this device to do so, it may be a future update. The sound is great considering it's size. It sometimes can't hear me say "ok Google" if music is playing. This was a great entry device to start the journey with smart home devices. I hope it will soon start making calls. It lost a star due to that missing feature. I'm still learning what all I can do with these types of devices but so far it's great!

Terrible setup, surprisingly good device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would have given this a 4 or 5 star rating. However, the setup was a nightmare. And I am a highly proficient professional in the technology field. Apparently, as of when I got the device, there must be some bad bug involving WiFi. The range (initially) was terrible. The device refused the Google Home normal set up procedures. Finally, after 4 hours of wasted time, I solved the problem. To help others out of this pain do the following: 1. If the speaker says "LOAD" that means it is downloading a firmware update. Nothing in the instructions mentions that. It takes a while for this to occur (like 15 to 20 MINUTES). So let it happen. The device may restart several times and say LOAD again. Let this happen. Do not touch anything. Let it totally finish. 2. If you can't get it to work, do a Factory Data Reset (this works with all Google Home devices, including third party devices, like Insignia): * Press and hold the microphone mute on the back of Insignia device for about 15 seconds. * You'll hear your Google Assistant confirm that it's resetting Google Home. * Now, open Google Home on your mobile device and start the Add Device procedure all over again. Note: you may have to remove an earlier listing of the device in Google Home. Once I did all this, it worked. So far, I have been very satisfied. The build of the device is solid. The audio is surprisingly good, with solid clarity through lows, mids and highs. Would I recommend it? Given how awful the setup turned out to be, you may want to avoid it unless you are very tech savvy or have someone who is..... If you fall into this category, "yes" I would recommend it. If "no" you have been forewarned...

WAY better than expected - very sweet sound
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hooked it up today and it sounds much better than I was expecting. This is a better deal than the moini - which I have as well. Mini doesn't come close to this in sound and clock is a great bonus. Will be getting a few more...

Better than the Google Home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own the Google Home as well as the JBL Link 300 (with Google Assistant) and wanted to replace my aging iPod docking alarm clock so why not a Google assisted clock? This Insignia Voice speaker has the Google Assistant as well as a very clear clock & temperature displayed on the front. The display's brightness can be controlled by the touch buttons on the top that only appear when your hand gets near it and the buttons also control the volume. There is a button on the back that shuts off the microphone for times when you want absolute privacy. The sound quality of the device is incredible. It's clear and robust for a device so small. I brought it to my computer club meeting and demoed it and people were amazed by it's sound quality. I would gladly bring it to the meetings every month to amplify the club's computer but the one problem it had was it wouldn't connect to the library's WiFi. As a result of not being connected, it kept announcing that it couldn't connect to the WiFi every 10 minutes or so and we couldn't find any way to tell it not to connect. Outside of that I really enjoy the sound quality and the overall design of the device. Considering it's almost half the price of the Google Home there's not reason to spend more.

Wow! Great sound, nice form factor, and good price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Insignia™ - Voice™ Smart Bluetooth Speaker with the Google Assistant built in - Black I’m always impressed by Best Buy’s Insignia line, so I was happy to check out how this new speaker compares to my Google Home. It was easy to set up, has a nice display — good for around the house or at the bedside. The controls appear when you move your hand near the top and allow you to pause/play music and adjust the volume. Because it uses Google Assistant, you can also control these features with your voice. Of course, you can also ask it the whole array of things that Google Assistant allows. It’s a great alarm clock and you can set that with your voice too. I was most impressed with the quality of the audio for the size of the device. It fills a room and is especially great for listening to music while getting up in the morning. Again, you can listen to anything using the Google Assistant, or connect a smart device via Bluetooth. As a nice added feature, there is a USB connection on the back that lets you charge your phone or tablet. I have the corded model, but for a few $$ more you can get the Portable model, with a built-in battery. Well thought-out design, nice appearance, good sound, and great price!

Generally a positive experience
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using this device for a few months and I think it was a great value for getting started with smart home devices. Some reviewers have had wi-fi issues (not necessarily the devices fault), temp display complaints (it will only show the temp for a short period as that part of the display is used for other things like volume setting, etc.), LOAD appearing on the display (the device is updating, give it some time), can't adjust the display brightness (hold the '0' on top and then press '-' or '+' to adjust), or they can't adjust the time (the time comes from Google once you connect to the device). I agree that the documentation is worthless (I found answers to some of my questions in the questions area) and I can't figure out how to adjust the assistant volume. But overall, for the $$ it's a great product. I'm concerned that it's on clearance which might mean BB is abandoning it.

Awesome speaker and great value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This speaker has decent sound considering the average price point. I have a Google Home mini and this does everything the mini does and even has better sound. Sure, it takes up a little bit more room but the extra space is primarily vertical space. The always on clock display and alarm snooze feature are a very nice plus.

Great start with room to grow
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upon unboxing I was shocked at how small the unit is. Setup was rather easy, but even though its connected to a smart phone I can't use it to make calls. For a streaming music player its good, but it still needs some work to be on par with some of the other smart speakers

Nice Upgrade from Google Home Mini
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I previously had a Google home Mini which I upgraded this to in my room. Fantastic sound quality over the Mini as well as the same functionality. Cons: I wish the display was dimmer at night and also I would love a continued conversation mode as well.

Love it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just as good as Google Home (other than the missing ability to make phone calls). Sounds better IMO, hopefully the phone call skill will be added soon but since I already have a Google Home (and an Echo) that makes calls this was a fantastic addition as a free bonus with another purchase. Viable clock screen makes it even better.

Love it - definitely worth buying
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First. Don't be deceived by the HUGE Insignia box. This is small. It's actually slightly shorter than the box is wide (yes wide). No idea why it's in such a tall box when you could probably fit 3 in the box. This is much better than the equivalent sized Google product. The clock makes this infinitely better a bedside voice assistant. The screen is also handy as it can display the outside temperature (displays for a few seconds after you ask); if you set an alarm the clock shows AL for Alarm - so you know you have one set. Volume is also displayed digitally and numerically. The LCD clock display is bright but not too bright. so it won't disturb your sleep. BONUS this comes with a rear USB port. So you can charge your phone off the back of it. Not easily understood from the box or pictures. The power cord is removable. It's not powered by a micro USB or USB C. More an FYI, as I was wondering if this was hard wired power or removable. If you want a voice activated clock/alarm for a bedroom, or a black Google Home or a Google home that doesn't look like an air freshener - then this is for you. Recommended.
