    Easy Set up Good Sound

I was able to get this device set up in about 30 seconds. Without the app it is just a matter of plugging it in. The sound is ok but compared to other speakers it sounds a little flat. So, I did change the location to where I had a better source of sound. As of yet, I do not have any other smart devices to control but the app looks simple to use and I will be adding some smart home tech soon. Even in this most basic mode asking it to create a reminder or for the weather or to create a play list is easy and very conveniant

    She's a house speaker

Does everything my Google Mini will do except voice calls and has a better speaker. Could not pass the $25 sale price. I bought it for my garage, but it doesn't like being in spaces that don't have a/c. Every evening, when I got home the degree symbol would be blinking and the Voice couldn't tell me why. It would work normally, but kept blinking Suspecting overheating, I took it in the house. After work since, no blinking symbol. Back to the mini for the garage. I'll have to get a bluetooth speaker though.

Love this thing wish they still made them. I've had mine for like 10 years and also bought the larger, louder one with a battery allowing it to be portable.

I am overjoyed with this speaker compared to my Alexa devices. The microphones work much better in this device than the $300 Megablast with Alexa. This The Insignia Voice Smart Speaker is a great value for sure. It works much better with my Hue lighting than all my Alexa devices. The sound is actually great for the price, people expect ear blowing bass out of everything nowadays. This does not have that but fills my large living room with clean music during a party or relax time. Also, is pairs so fast with all my android devices. Google Music works top notch as well. Can't go wrong for the price.

My only feature request for a future software update, is the ability to turn the display brightness all the way to zero. I know you change the brightness to various levels, but some people are very sensitive to light when going to bed. I'd love it if you could set the brightness of the clock to zero so this way it would be completely off. I have two set up in a stereo pair and I'd love it if I could have the clock show up on just one and have the others clock completely off.

It's a great smart speaker with a good speaker. I actually have my echo dot connected to t via Bluetooth. It is also significantly faster than echo products and much more responsive. My only issue is the lack of G Suite support, something the amazon alexa has had for quite a while now.

Sound quality is pretty good and I like the design of the unit. Voice commands work pretty consistently, but I do get false triggers sometimes. I do wish you could put it into an offline mode where it would still display the time though and it is missing some functionality that other Google Assistant products have. I picked this up when it was onsale for $25. Based on the price I paid I would say it was a good buy. Don't think I would have paid full price though.

I own google home, mini and this one. This looks nicer compare to other two. Clock on this unit is big plus compare to regular google home. Insignia should work more with Google to make this better. Firmware on this is little behind compare to original google home. I live in Phoenix and there is an issue with clock. This is what I did to fix the clock issue and I hope it helps if you live in Phoenix. 1. Go to your phone date time settings. Turn off auto in time zone. Use 12 hour time format. Verify your phone shows right time. Change time zone to Denver (this should not change time). 2. Reset insignia by pressing & holding mute button for 12 seconds. 3. Continue the setup as per documentation 4. After setup completes; clock on insignia should show correct time. 5. Update your phone timezone back to Phoenix.

    Super Google Assistant Device

Let me start out by saying this is a great product. With that said, I did have an issue that their support center was able to fix after I called them. From what I understand, they are supposed to auto update after you set it up on Google Home. Mine did not and I waited over a week for it to update before I called support and they were able to send the update out and get it working without issue. My issue was that it would not set an alarm with the 105 version of firmware. After the update, it is awesome. Thanks.

    Very Average Smart Speaker

I purchased this speaker when it was discounted at $70 to add to my smart home. I would not say that I am completely disappointed with the speaker - the added time and weather display are a nice feature and the Google Home should look into adding this. It also has some sort of motion detector on top so the buttons light up if you are going to change the volume, change display brightness, etc. BUT if you are buying this in hope for good music quality, I would look elsewhere. In all honestly it just sounds like a loud phone speaker and was very unimpressed by it. When compared to the Google Home, it is almost laughable about how bad the audio quality is on this Insignia speaker - the Google Home has much crisper audio and much deeper bass (as this Insignia speaker offers little-to-no bass). This being said, it is perfect just to have at your bedside. And if you already have a well-established smart home, then this would be a welcome addition to your nightstand. However, if you are looking at this to be your first smart speaker, just take my advice and wait for the Google Home to go on sale (which it does often). If this speaker were priced at $50, only then would I seriously recommend it to people.

We bought one of these during their last sale and we've been satisfied with it. I replaced the Google Home Mini in the bedroom with this and placed the Mini in the kitchen. We really like the clock feature and the ability to control the volume a bit more accurately. It is much louder that the Mini is. This is more comparable to the regular Home speaker. We need to purchase another one for the guest room and we will probably purchase one of these again.

The Insignia "Voice" is very similar to the Amazon Echo. I like this better, for me it was much easier to connect to my other devices around the house. It connected instantly to my Nest thermostat. Alexa was always whining that she couldn't find it. It also connected quickly to my Wemo light dimmer. It's fun just saying, "hey google, turn off the light" than having to open the app on my smartphone to do the same thing. It found my location more accurately than the Echo. When i ask for the weather or temperature it knows my exactly location as opposed to Alexa giving me the forecast for the nearest big city. Also this speaker will display the temperature when you ask for the weather. Unfortunately, it only lasts a few seconds, it would be amazing for it to display the outside temperature continually as it does for the exact time, but according to the manufacturer that's not going to happen. A couple of negatives. When this speaker is playing music, you have to YELL "Hey GOOGLE" in order to get it to hear you.The Echo was better with that. Also Sirius-XM is not available yet on this device as it is on the Echo. All in all though, for the price I'm very happy with it. Alexa lives in my living room and this speaker is on my nightstand. It's going to be fun to see what future updates will teach this device to do.

Sounds good but key features aren't included

If you need a clock and just something to turn on and off the lights that sounds pretty good and don't care if new features from Google, hen this will do the trick. If you have a Google Home/Mini and is used the new features this isn't for you. 1. Make phone calls 2. Continue conversation Those are two features right off that bat that you can do with a Google Home but can't do with this. I have 5 google home around the house and bought one of these for each occupied bedrooms. I quickly realized that those missing features can be annoying because I've become accustomed to using it daily. If this thing ever gets a firmware update to have all the Google new features, this is definitely going to be a 5 star product and in some ways better than the Google Home itself.

    Slightly oversold

I bought this speaker/clock on sale thinking it would be a good replacement for my Google Home Mini on my nightstand. I've wanted a more traditional alarm clock for a while now, since it's kind of awkward to have to ask Google what time it is (not to mention I have to remember how to phrase, "Hey Google, snooze" while half asleep in the mornings.) While it's not quite what I was expecting, I actually like the fact that this is basically a Google Home with a display. My biggest complaint, though, is that it must ALWAYS be connected to WiFi to have any functionality. My WiFi occasionally goes out, and the clock will just display --:--. I wish this was fixed with a software update. Seems like a relatively big oversight to sell this unit as an alarm clock, but have that functionality be susceptible to internet outages. I'm glad I got this unit on sale, because otherwise the upgrade from Google Home Mini would not have been worth it.

I bought this thinking that no matter what, I'd have an Alarm Clock with a good speaker. It was a little "fun" setting it up (took about 15 minutes) but once it was set up, it worked perfectly with my Google Home and the home network I set up. I purchased some insignia smart plugs and it works great with them.

I've been eyeing this speaker for sometime and I love it. There are a few cons: when brightness is set to low, the light is still to bright; temputure is only shown for a few moments when you Google for the weather, the temperature will show up and then 10 secs later, disappear; and low charging capability

Some shortcomings compared to normal Google Home

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This product is generally pretty good, especially when on a steep sale, but here are some things to consider which make me hesitate to buy any additional ones. 1. There's a general misconception that this speaker has the full Google Home feature set. That is not the case, as the software is modified and updated independently of the Google brand Google Home devices. I found this out after some searching. 2. This product lacks all of the Google Home features. Earlier this year, Google rolled out the ability to pair Google Home speakers with other non-Google Home Bluetooth speakers; a very handy feature. This product lacks that ability, presumably because it's behind on updates, or the Bluetooth radio is for some reason incapable. 3. There's no guarantee of continued updates or support. This is a Best Buy brand, so if they decide to cut support, whether it be because of a partnership with Amazon or the desire to sell a newer product, they can just cut support, and you have an end-of-life device on your hands that won't keep getting the upgrades and new abilities that Google brand Google Home devices will. 4. This speaker does not respect proximity rules. That is to say if you have a Google Home in your bathroom, and this speaker in your bedroom, and while standing in your bathroom you issue a command, if the one in the bedroom happens to hear you too, it will respond despite not being the speaker that's closest. This is an issue that I believe the Google branded Home speakers have worked out (so have the Amazon Echo devices,) but still plauges the insignia speakers. 5. The blue lights on this are ridiculous for an alarm clock speaker that presumably will be kept in a bedroom. Consider that blue light is scientifically proven to keep one awake and sleep experts recommend not looking at anything that produces light with a blue component before bed. This is why apps that turn off blue pixels on your TV and phone exist, and are starting to be built into Android and iOS. Why not red? 6. Speaker begins to distort around 80% to 85% volume. It still is listenable at or above that level, but is it isn't ideal. Overall it isn't a bad little device for the price, but I think for the purposes of having a smart speaker, one may be better served by going with a device that has the full feature suite and guaranteed updates and support.

Some Letdowns and Average Sound Quality

I have a video comparison on youtube if you search "MtnXfreeride Insignia Voice" you should see it. It shows both insignias and Google Home and Home mini back to back with no gain changes on shure microphones. I have a google home, home mini, and both of these new insignia speakers. This one ranks between a home mini and the google home for sound quality and is definitely not as good as the google home. I also had a continuing issue where it would not show as a cast able device while the other insignia speaker and other GH products in my home have literally never had that issue. I returned mine. the larger speaker is a much better product in my opinion. Some things that I noted while i had it... waving hand over it will lower volume to 20%, but you still have to say "ok google" to initiate a command. The middle button (circle shaped) I thought would also initiate the assistant, but it does not, as far as I know it does nothing.. probably related to the bug the Google Home Mini had. Temperature only displays for ~5 seconds WHEN ASKED.

I have spent an extensive amount of time testing this product, and my overall impression of this device is not very favorable. The device does not integrate well with my IPhone. I find this speaker very contradictory. It cannot make calls, read text messages, or send texts. It does connect to my phone as it is able to put calendar events on my iPhone. But that’s about all it does with my phone. It cannot find my iPhone. My assistant informed me that she can only connect to Androids to use the find my phone feature for now. Perhaps an upcoming firmware update in the future will fix this? I just find the utility lacking. If I ask my assistant to find me directions to the nearest coffee shop, it tells me them. But this cannot be sent to my iPhone. So what is the use? Also, it often has issues verifying my voice requiring me to repeat my commands. It also thinks my wifes voice is mine, and we have very different voices. It frequently misses ‘Hey Google’ commands even when the room is silent. The Google Home app that goes along with this is painfully slow and times out very often on my iPhone 6s running iOS 11. I will say that I really enjoy the good morning feature is awesome. Asking for the weather is cool, playing music is cool. But these are fun features that do not really improve my life or workflow. Maybe I should have had different expectations for this device. Hoping some firmware updates make this device more usable and integratabtle into my everyday life
