With all the new connected devices, there are several eco systems out there. The 2 largest are amazon and google. (I had an all alexa house prior to this) I have connected lights, switches, air conditioner, and security all with alexa. So far, this works with some of my existing devices. I wont fully judge based on my previous buying habits. Set up was pretty simple, if you have the Google Home. Just add the device. I have music uploaded to their cloud, wont play. I am sure there is a setting somewhere, should be easier to find. Google music sounds pretty decent. You can not tell from the picture this is only 6" tall. I was going to use this in my room, but I dont like the brightness so moved it to the living room. So far I only ask trivia and play music with this. But if you are big on the Google ecosystem, then this is a good deal. As with all things check compatibility with your existing or planned smart devices.

Great speaker but may no longer be supported

I was impressed enough with this speaker to buy 3.The sound is excellent and it works great for controlling lights and streaming music to multiple rooms. There are some google home features that do not work on this speaker, phone calls, night mode etc. Google added continued conversation recently which initially worked but soon ceased to function. A quick look in the Best Buy support forums shows the last update almost 7 months ago, so this speaker may be an as is purchase and could became useless in the future if Google make any big changes that are not compatible.

    Average at best

The build quality is questionable at best. I've read many reviews of people reporting problems. The first one I had was defective too, the LED display didn't work. After exchanging it at BB, I had them plug the replacement it in first. IMHO, the richness of sound from the device is lacking bass and is not as rich as that from the Google home. So far, there is no way to adjust the sound EQ settings. There is also no way to connect a BT speaker to get better sound, you can only send music to the device. On the plus side, the microphone for the "OK Google" command is very sensitive and seems to work fine and the clock display is nice along with the 4-second display of the temperature when you ask it.

Bought this last week for $39.99 for my daughter. Very good item and works as described. Speaker sounds good. Perfect for a small bedroom not really for a living room or kitchen. Highly recommend this. If you want something louder get the bigger one. I bought that for me and it sounds awesome.

Majorly flawed could be great if fixed

I purchased two. Out of the box the first one immediately did a firmware update. Setup was simple and its worked great. The second one didn't do a firmware update when setup and I initially thought it was great as well. I went to set an alarm on the second one and was immediately get the "there was a glitch" error. I unplugged and plugged back in several times hoping to fix the issue or initiate a firmware update. After some searching online, I found a few reviews on the Best Buy listing that mentioned changing the language in Google Home settings to English (Canadian). This immediately fixed it. If it weren't for this flaw and frustration these could be 5/5 stars. I've seen several reviews mention this issue which is likely why they are significantly discounted. As it stands you're better of with an actual Google Home or Home Mini. For a product to be advertised as an ALARM CLOCK and not be able to perform that simple function out of the box is mind boggling. I have several Google Home products in my home and if the English (Canadian) language setting causes any issues in the future this thing be replaced. Problems aside it does sound great. Better than a Home Mini.

We received this item from a friend and love it. The response time for commands is excellent and the quality of the speaker is fantastic for the small speaker size. Enjoy it more than our Alexa devices. We bought another one and the mini version for the floors of our home.

One is good, but don't add a second.

I have had a single Insignia smart speaker in my bedroom for almost a year and it's worked pretty well. If I was reviewing the single speaker, I'd probably give it four stars. The two star rating is because of the issue created by adding a second speaker (to create a stereo pair). The pairing process is pretty simple, one of the last steps is to designate which speaker is the "master". Once selected, that is the only one that will respond to commands and will work basically the same as before pairing. The other will only act as a speaker after pairing. The problem is, while the "master" still shows the time on the display, the "slave" only shows "set". It cannot be turned off or changed. Besides the improved audio, the main reason I bought a second was to have a clock on both sides of the bed. For nor I have to stare at "set" until they figure this out or I return it. (Both speakers are on the latest firmware - 310)

this device has several things that determines its practical and usefulness as intended out of the box. I like this unit and would give it 4-5 stars but considering I had to return 2 because of a known flaw with Google assistant app firmware this unit malfunctions of several services including setting a basic alarm and will not ever set a time you command google assistant instead will respond with a "glitch" response. also displaying temperature and volume will not function correctly. Its a bummer is this unit cannot be updated remotely to fix remedy the issues it must be returned for a replacement and now you invest time and money into something Best Buy should pull from the shelves until they solve the software conflict again this is a know issue with insignia engineers and Google and that is enough to warn buyers there is malfunctions but since its the holiday sales they haven't removed the item. No known updates are available so its a crap shoot if you get a working unit. I was told to return the item from tech support not much help.

Good speaker if sold at right price

I bought this when it was on major sale(much lower than current exorbitant price). Have been using since a month or so. Overall satisfied with voice recognition and google assistant and has clock display. However, since it listens all the time, sometimes even if I haven't spoken anything, it thinks someone spoke and starts announcing. It has happened to me regularly every few days. Sound quality is not as good as other similarly priced speakers. I am going to keep it since I got it at a great price. Would have returned it if I had paid more than I did.

I'm really amazed by the quality of this device. It's very responsive to voice commands plus the sound quality is far superior to that of the Google home device. I liked it so much I purchased a second for the guest bedroom as a speaker /alarm clock

Works well, sounds good for $25. The only complaint is if the internet goes down, the clock either shows dashes or net after only 1 minute of internet down. Don't depend on the clock of alarm.

I upgraded my mini Google with this and I'm very pleased. The sound quality is superior. If you already have google home set up in your home it takes 5 min to add this to your app. It was very easy. I'm very happy. Might buy another.

This speaker turned out better than expected. I use it on my nightstand and purchased another for the spare room. Sounds just as good as my original Google Home and beats my Google Home Mini in overall sound quality.

    No bluetooth transmit

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

You can't send music to a bluetooth speaker from the Insignia Voice. That is the main reason I wanted this, to create a whole house listening experience. However, unlike the Google units, the Insignia will not allow the option to have the default speaker a bluetooth one. Also, when you use several google devices together with the google hub sending the music to a bluetooth high quality sound system in one room and this playing in the other, they do not sync. Google home provides a sync adjustment, but it is not enough to fix it. Furthermore, google home hub will play songs from youtube audio, but the insignia will not without a paid subscription. When you play a song on GHH on youtube and try to cast it to play both the GHH and Insignia, then both units will not play anything. The more I use it, the less useful it is. It is a device that the main purpose is to sell additional monthly services or expensive controls for home devices that don't need it, like lights. X10 worked for that at 1/10 the price. It cannot even play local music on phone, computer or network storage (unless you are using it as a simple bluetooth device). The ONLY way to play local music is with Google Play paid subscription and upload your songs. The entire concept is a gimmick, albeit fun at first to play with, but severely lacking as it is intended.

    MANY UNITS WITH OUTDATED FIRMWARE!!!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This CAN be an awesome smart speaker.. I bought two for my bedroom, one apparently was from a batch with the latest firmware, the other wasn’t.. The one with latest firmware does everything its supposed to, when you ask for temperature it says and DISPLAYS temp, you can set alarms and even sleep timers, BEWARE NONE of this works with the unit with outdated firmware!! It says “There was a glitch” when you try to set an alarm, it says “This feature is not supported yet” when you try to do a sleep timer... Etc.. I returned the first one with outdated firmware, bought another & one for mother in law.. BOTH of those had outdated firmware!! I went to a different Best Buy in attempt to get a different batch, and replaced those.. BOTH of those had same issue!!!!!! The EXTREMELY irritating part of all of this is that there is NO way to force a firmware update.. You have to wait for one to eventually, hopefully be pushed to your device... Giving it a day doesn’t work... I researched up and down & called Insignia to no avail. So except for 1 out of 6 total speakers, I experienced Smart Speaker with no smart features. Terrible. ... If they all worked like the one with correct firmware, I would give 5 stars.. Listening out of two of these speakers sounds awesome.. But if I can’t even set an alarm with the darn thing, what kind of “Smart” thing is this?

Sound not synced with video on my computer

I bought this to use as a Bluetooth speaker with my desktop computer. When ever I watch a video the sound is not in sync with the video, there is about a 20 second lag. This makes it all but impossible to enjoy videos. Otherwise, everything is great. Google Assistant was easy to set up. I would recommend this as long as you don't want to use it as a speaker for your computer.
