This is the second time I've had to replace the remote in less than a year. Fortunately Bestbuy backed the product. To purchase the remote is $250

Brought my truck in for a remote start install. When dropping my truck off the employee behind the desk didnt seem to understand what i was getting done or any simple things about my truck( wether it had power locks or a chip in the key) When picking up my truck had to ask for the second remote start key and get home to find out the user manuel is no longer in the box. When called to ask about it was told it has probably been thrown away but i can call anytime with questions. Im sorry id rather read up on it myself and also have no paperwork for any warrently on the product i bought. Everyone working there just seemed very short with answers and i honestly felt like they would have rather been somewhere else then there.

First I will start off why I gave this review a two, the product itself works as intended and Viper is an amazing product if you care about your cars look and security. I purchased this a few months ago and had a terrible experience that has made me never want to use Geek Squad for anything, ever again. I complained numerous times to managers, geek squads agents (the installers that worked on my car) and even emails but got no where with any of them. Here is my recent email *Anything in () is not part of the email, just to fill in some blanks. -- "Hello, I purchased a Viper 5706v unit and was installed in my 2015 Subaru Forester at the Yonkers Central Avenue location. When I got the item shipped to my house, I had the installer at this location attempt to install it within my car. I took off from work to have the employee work on my Forester, and he PROMISED it would be done that day, so I went to the movies near that Best Buy while he worked on it. When I get out, he tells me ''I'm almost done'' About 45 minutes to a hour pass and he then tells me ''I can't do it sorry'' (He then goes on to explain that a certain wire is to short on the car, and since I do not know anything about how to install these, I just told him to direct me to someone that could finish the job) I was extremely annoyed and disappointed in this. Taking off work, and instead of telling me up front that he didn't know what he was doing, he wasted my entire day and time. I was then directed by this same employee to set up an appointment with a different Geek Squad mobile installer - I went to do this but did not have any paperwork or emails about the work that was done to my car from the Yonkers/Central avenue location to inform the other agent. (Only receipts.) After calling numerous times (about a dozen times) to get help about this, I was told the day before my scheduled install with the next agent, that I would NOT be seeing the agent I was assigned to and that I would be transfer to another Agent at the Mount Vernon Best Buy. location. When I had the car worked on by this employee, he told me that the previous installer failed to give me back all the parts that came with the 5706v unit (a 2 point connector switch or something) So I had to drive BACK to the Central ave location to get the part, then come back to Mount Vernon to get the car worked on. ( He refused to open a new unit for the missing part at his Best Buy location. ) (After getting everything and driving back and forth) The agent then started working on the car and told me the previous installer 'made a mess' with the wires, and then had to re-wire the entire 5706v unit and the modules. This increased the time by a few hours according to him. He then guided me through how to use the unit and was for the most part very professional in trying to fix any other issues. Then two days ago I went to a Subaru dealership in the Bronx (Milea) as the car was acting up (bunch of lights on the dash board lit up at once) They replaced two different things to fix the problem, (one being the ''Break light switch'') but at the time of fixing it, they had to go near the wires where the remote start was installed (inside the car, under the steering wheel) and I was told from the Subaru tech. that ''Whoever put in your remote start, really didn't know what they we're doing. The wires and device look like they were shoved into the space and the wires look like tangled spaghetti'' He said that it may cause issues in the future because of the unprofessional work that was done. (He did not say that this caused my issues, but he also said there was a chance) I am highly disappointed in this, and I will most likely never use Geek Squad services again. -End email- I am them told in person at Subaru that due to the unprofessional install from Geek Squad, that if I ever have any electronic problems, my warrant may not cover it if the remote start install is to blame. I trusted Best Buy and Geek Squad to do this professionally, but numerous techs from Subaru all agreed that the work done looks very sloppy and unprofessional. Be sure you know the agent has prior history to installing these devices. I even contacted Best Buy about this in hopes they could do something right by me, since the 1st installer straight up lied to me, telling me he could do the install with no problem, and all the chaos going back and forth. Never have I received an email back or a phone call about these issues. Best Buy may have lost a customer for life.

      Hi FreakLikeChewy –

It’s quite disappointing to read about your experience at a number of our stores during your remote start install. It’s also disheartening to hear that your requests for assistance and follow up from us have gone unanswered. If you’re still looking for assistance with this please reach out to us at [email protected], and include the details of your experience. Thanks for your feedback

Excellent Experience for Remote Starter Install

I purchased a model remote starter / security system model from an online site (in other words, not best buy) in August and had to find someone reliable to install it. Finally talked to a Best Buy sales rep who said that they should install it even if it wasn't purchased from them. This model (Viper 5706v) happened to be also carried by Best Buy so that gave me a better feeling that the install would go smoothly. The geek squad tech I worked with was pleasant to work with and walked through the functions of the system with my wife and I and answered all our questions. Reminded us also that all work is guaranteed for life, which was a huge bonus and if any parts broke they would install whatever new part for free. It was done within the time allotted (about 3 1/2 hours) and car was not damaged or dirtied in anyway. Only negative was the price of the extra parts needed for install. But I did expect some were needed. Next time I'll buy these on my own prior to install and see if I can get a better price. I would definitely be going back to Best Buy for this type of install. Especially since they are all over the place and if I'm traveling, there's a good chance I can find one over a local shop.

Geek Squad Car & GPS Services In May 1 2014, I went to best buy in Marlborough,MA to install alarm and remote starter. I paid $ 295 just for installation which was fine with me because I wanted professional installation. They did install the remote and it works almost fine, the only issue that I had was they blow up two of my car speakers. When I returned to the store to take to the manager about it he just said that there is nothing he can do for me. I also asked the technician if he can program the alarm unit to lock and unlock the doors when I start or shutdown the engine, the technician said “there is no way to do that”. On the other hand, I went to different store (Milford,MA) asking the technician if he can do it for me he said “yes it will take only 20 minute”.

Poor installation: missing parts, damaged parts

I purchased my 2014 Jeep Wrangler on 12/24/2014. I went to Best Buy, Store #54 (2701 N. Mesquite Dr., Mesquite, TX) on 01/05/2014 and spoke with Cody, who was very professional and helpful. I then ordered the following: Viper 5806V 5 Actuators All required wiring harnesses and hardware. Labor to install all equipment I paid $1,002.27 for products and services and scheduled an installation appointment for 01/15/2014. However, when I arrived for appointment time (10:45 am for the 11:00 am appointment) on 01/15/2014, I met Matt R. Matt could not give me his undivided attention because he was busy inserting and removing his ear bud. While Matt boasted about how he has 15 years of experience over Cody and can do a better job than Cody, he seemed discourteous and said that he was uncertain if he will be able to install the rear actuator. Matt said that he didn’t even know how to access the inner components as he looked at the door. He never asked me key questions, such as where would I wish to have my valet button mounted. I had to specify. He also did not give me the option to wait for the installation, as I’ve seen other customers wait for their installations. Matt just told me that he will call me once the installation was complete. I returned to Best Buy at 4:30 pm just to see how everything was progressing. I sat and looked my vehicle parked outside from 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm. At 5:00 pm, Matt finally called me and said that he had just finished my vehicle. Matt said the following: He had to order additional parts to install the actuators (in addition to what I had previously ordered). He was unable to install the rear door actuator because the rear door was not designed for it. He showed me how to arm, disarm, and remotely start the vehicle. Matt expressed his displeasure, informing me that he was supposed to have gotten off at 2:00 pm but had to work over on my vehicle. He also said that Cody should never have scheduled me and that my Wrangler is that last Jeep Wrangler that they will ever work on. Matt never discussed programming features with me. I am unable to lock my doors while driving. Upon returning home, I inspected the vehicle in detail and found the following (with supporting photos): The hood-switch wire was too short for me to raise the hood fully The doors were hardwired in, so now I am unable to remove the doors; Matt has now eliminated a feature without having consulted me. The carpet retainer nuts for the front floorboard were missing; one was just sitting on the floorboard, unattached. The driver door gasket was not secured, and the securing pin was exposed. Wires attached under the dash were not tucked in but left to interfere with foot well space. Both front door panels were not secured; the pins were not completely secured. There was a gap in the front passenger door. The carpet lining at the base of the right rear door pillar was not secured, and wires were exposed. There were gouge marks around trim pins where it was evident that Matt had used a screwdriver to remove the pins rather than the proper tool. The Silent Arm feature does not work. My horn sounds with certain features but not others—inconsistent with the user guide. I took my brand new vehicle to what I thought was a reputable, professional installer. I ultimately paid over $1,000 to have someone tear up my vehicle, thus showing no respect for my vehicle or me. It makes me wonder what else he had done incorrectly that I can’t see. I needed an authorized Viper dealer to install the system to keep the lifetime warranty. I am not only displeased with the rude and poor service from Matt, but I am also angered that Matt found it necessary to tear up my vehicle and return it to me with missing parts.

I had my viper 2way system installed on 2/22/14 at the gateway location. I would like to say that the technican, Mr. Herve was very knowledgable about these systems. He did the job within the estimated time, and my truck was returned cleaned (he vacuum my carpet, go Herve). At this time, I am very happy with the product and service rec'd.

I absolutely loved the work the Auto Geek Squad did on my car. David was super helpful, very friendly, and didn't make me feel like just dollar signs and an inconvenience. I also didn't feel I was being taken advantage of, as a woman going to an "auto" department, which often happens. He contacted me before my scheduled service date to verify some information and address any questions or concerns I had, and further eased me through the process by being honest and upfront about potential delays or incompatibility with my car and the product I purchased. WONDERFUL. I wish more folks were as professional and helpful as he was.

Love shopping at Best Buy, they have a large selection at good prices. Because the floor was shorthanded, car installer Tyler L. was working the floor and served my sales associate; later he installed the equipment I purchased. As an installer Tyler L. knew the products inside-and-out. Matthew M. assisted Tyler L. with finalizing my purchase. Matthew M. knew the inside-and-outs of obtaining financing for my purchase. Together then made an awesome team. I can’t say enough about the quality of the service Matthew M. and Tyler L. provided.

I made an appointment to have a remote start installed on a 2013 Ford. Two weeks after making APPOINTMENT the store did not have accessories needed for APPOINTMENT on hand. Technician offered to use left overs from other installations but charge full cost. Most remote start kits don't use all components in kit and customers don't receive left overs. The store missed the appointment by more than an hour. Appointment was for 2:15 PM, vehicle brought into bay after 3:30 PM. At 4:45 PM I was notified that the second key was needed to program the left overs. I was not informed of this until it was to late to get a replacement key made from a local dealership.
