Serves the purpose.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price and quality, it works well. Purchased it for my mother to convert slides to digital for the entire family to have. It's very simple but time consuming. The quality is decent, especially for coming from 40 yr old slides!

Does a pretty good job.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought it. I unpacked it. I scanned a 40 year old Polaroid picture (b/w). It did a great job. I scanned ( I realize its not really a scanner) several more, including some color slides and 35mm negatives. It does what I need it to do. Since it has no moving parts, maybe it will last for a while. My only fear is that it is so light duty, one drop may do it in. At any rate, I am happy with it now. I do have a lot of computer stuff.

As good as it gets
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing seems to be basically a simple digital camera with a macro lens and the ability to reverse image negatives. The material is cheap plastic, but for the price, it does a fine job. Yes, it picks up spots and scratches. Yes, you have to load the negatives in the tray, put them in the machine, push the scan/save buttons once for each frame, and then pull out the tray and reload it. For the price, it does a great job, and if you clean your negatives first, you'll spend a lot less time photoshopping dust, speckles, etc. I have a huge collection of negatives and it will probably take me a long time to get them all scanned (all that I want scanned, anyway), but at least with the screen I get to see the pictures as I scan them! I'm very happy with my purchase.

Great scanner, easy to use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this! It scans slides, negatives and pictures. The pictures do better on a flatbed scanner, but I was more interested in converting our slides and negatives.

Great item!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the Ion Audio PICS 2 SD Photo, Slide and Film Scanner as gift. When I opened the box it looked fragile. Once I read the instructions (which are very clear and easily understood), the viewscreen scrolled before it finally adjusted itself to view the negatives I had inserted. The one thing I notice and do not like, was photos that had print were copied backwards, so to repair it you will need photo software that allows you to 'flip' the photo so that you can read any print. This device serves the purpose it was made for, but I would have like more options for making corrections to my negatives and photos. It acts like a scanner and what ever you see on your negative or photo prior to putting it into the Ion Audio PICS 2 SD Photo, Slide and Film Scanner will be viewed in your copy. All-in-all this was worth the price.

Look at something else if you need great scans
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thought the price was kind of steep, espeically because it only scans one frame/picture at a time. I will give it thumbs up for the speed of scan. You can only can one at a time but it doesn't take long at all. However, the colors were not very accurate when scanning negatives. My biggest compliant is that when I can pictures, there's a dark circle in the center of some of the pictures. I know it's from the machine because when I pull the picture up the circle is stationary. It's more noticeable in some pics than others because of content of the picture. For the price of the machine, I feel there shouldn't be a dark circle at all. Also, when you scan in pictures, you also catch the holder the picture is in so you have to go in and crop ALL the pictures to remove the holder. I'm going to return it and get a different one. I have tons of pictures and negatives.

Cumbersome and Tedious
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have a lot of photos to scan, this is not worth the money. First, you have to put the photos in the tray, then place it in the slot, then select the size of the photo from the menu to crop it (which does a very poor job of cropping) and then press scan (which is only taking a snapshot of it) and then repeat the whole process over again. If you are trying to scan negatives, you have to put them in the tray and line them up each time and scan, and it scans an extremely poor image, and you would have to go into the menu and mess around with the color settings in order to get a half-decent photo. Same thing with the slides. If you are like me and have thousands of photos to scan, I would shop around for a self-feeding scanner. But, if you are retired with absolutely nothing to do and are scanning photos to pass time in the winter months, you might not mind.

Regret buying it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a good alternative to my all in one flatbed scanner. This was NOT is! Don't waste your money. I am returning this asap. Looks and feels way to cheap for what you pay! It isn't even really a "scanner". It basically captures a picture of a picture (really hard to explain it). The third photo I tried to scan fell out of the holder and I had to try to retrieve it from inside the machine! I am going back to using my HP Photosmart until I find something better. At least it really scans the photo!

Usable but only to a point
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this scanner a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it until I realized that it has one big flaw: as soon as the lens has any dust on it the completely enclosed casing makes it impossible to do anything but maybe blow air through it, there's no other way to clean the lens. The dust specs on all images get old fast!

Poor Purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this scanner yesterday, took it home and set it up to start scanning my 35 mm slides some 50 yrs old. Finally gave up after several hours. It would never let me preview the slides I wanted to scan and when I looked at the scan that I did blindly, it was of very very poor quality. Bottom line, I'm returning it to the store today. I work with computer and devices every day and am quite proficient with them but this device I could never get it to work like it is advertised.

Not worth the aggravation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Customer Service from Ion is non-existant. You have a question about the installation and have to wait over 30 minutes on the phone listening to muzak. You hang up in frustration. You call back and talk to their operator only to have her inform you that you "can't jump the "Q" to talk to a technician" You ask for a supervisor and get voice mail. The person does not call you back in a timely fashion. It's now 35 minutes and he hasn't called. You go to their website to troubleshoot and they want more personal information from you than the IRS before they will let you continue. You try the installation one more time exactly the way you did it to start with and it suddenly works. If you can't include easy to use directions and software for non technological people, the product ISN'T WORTH IT!!!

Depends on what you are looking for....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for a scanner to quickly capture lots of photos for viewing on low resolution devices then this is a good buy. This is not good for any sort of reproduction or for capturing high quality images. The Image size for a captured photo on the highest 10 MP resolution is only 1.5MB. When you enlarge the image it is quite grainy. Additionally the colors are not representative of the originals. Another note is that you need to be careful when inserting the original prints in the film holders so you do not damage the edges. I am returning mine for one with much higher resolution.

Brand new broken
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This looks feels and operates like a children's toy. It was light weight when I bought it, but chalked it up to advancement. This is crude and a waste of time. The menu never appeared, ever. I drove out to get this and am putting on dinner late because I wasted my time and money and now I have to return it in the morning. Please do not do it. Struggle with you own scanner or send your stuff out to Costco and let the pros do it.

Poor quality images, misleading "Auto-Focus" claim
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The box claims that the unit has "auto-focus." In reality, it's fixed focus. Even then, I wasn't impressed when I manually held the slide caddy in the optimal position (there's a lot of slop in the alignment of the caddy). The dynamic range is poor, so highlights are blown out and shadows are murky. There is also just enough fixed zoom, that you will lose anything at the edge of your photos. I can only presume that this is to help avoid the need to crop the images after scanning. Summary: Best Buy should not be carrying this product.

Great for Film, Not-so-great for Photos
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We decided to keep this item because it did a really good job scanning film; however, I was not impressed with the quality of the photo scanning.

35mm tray poor, and need more
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Read that a guy did three 36 boxes in 45 minutes. Don't believe it. It needs to come with 3 trays. I can't seem to buy them from Best Buy or IonAudio. Tray is designed wrong. Must turn slides over to load into top since it has the deeper ridges. then close the bottom onto top and roll it over to insert. Do employees ever try to use what they sell??

Meh
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I was using this scanner the picture quality is not that great. The light seems to mess with the colors of the photos. On some pictures you can actually see the scanning device, looks like a camera. It has a screen that you are able to see the photo however the screen quality is not that great so you have to switch out the SD card to your computer to see if you need to adjust the exposure level and what not. This is going back especially when it looks like there is something taped on the inside. Not much of a write up on the companies website, no FAQ, no easy amount of support. Just gonna shop for something else

Stopped working after 8 slides
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unit went dead after converting 8 slides. Unit is slow because of putting slides in and out of tray. Telephone support said I would have a 25 minute wait probably to say the unit was broken so I hung up. Website was not setup for troubleshooting.

I Do NOT recommend this product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this thing home, un-boxed and connected it up and started to scan my first slides. . . absolutely HORRIBLE reproduction of the slides! . I would not recommend this product, it is way over priced and does not come even close to doing a good job with 35mm slides.
