Needed a cassette player
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like a lot of us. Had a box of old cassettes we love and haven't heard in years. It works, but as usual it already ate one tape. Still enjoy it. Nice and portable. Comes with extension cord also.

Not worth it
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's nice but overly expensive for the functions it has. Best Buy offers another boombox that is cheaper and plays CD. I returned this !

Great decoration
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I put it on the shelf and it looks really cool which is the whole reason I bought it. But if you want to use it expect less than average quality of everything. Especially bad is the quality of recording on the tape, which I would greatly exaggerate if stated as low. It is simply unusable even for the lowest expectation, basically an advertised feature that is not part of the package. However, if you play a pre-recorded tape it sounds satisfactory.

Substandard Retro Boombox
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything works great except that when you play the tape player it buzzes like crazy, so that's not good. Radio is a little hard to tune. But everything else works fine.

Very Nostalgic Feel With Modern Features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great product idea! Very retro with a recording cassette deck, analog FM/AM radio tuner, telescoping antenna, internal mic, headphone jack, and an option to power radio with D-Cell batteries (although you'll probably use the built in Lithium-Ion battery first). All those features work just as well as they did in the 1980s. The sound is great, I liked the mono/stereo control, and the Bass and Treble adjustments worked well. Even the distortion at the highest volumes reminds me of 80's boomboxes, i.e. this is not somehow transformed into an audiophile device. I found a cassette tape to play and a blank one to record on. Both worked well enough. A funny thing is that when rewinding the cassette, it does not stop when it is done rewinding, it will keep trying to rewind, you have to hit the stop button. I don't remember if that is retro accurate or not! Now on to the more modern features, it has Auxiliary input with standard 1/8" / 3.5mm jack. Has a USB flash drive slot along with a micro SD card slot. There are buttons for switching folders on the USB or SD card directories. I tested out playing files from a usb drive, worked great, I also tested out recording from the internal mic to usb files, worked as well as recording to cassette. You can also record to usb/sd from a bluetooth source, the radio, aux in, or cassette source. Very versatile. The manual has a whole section on the different recording and playback scenarios to make it easy to follow along with the choices and how to implement them. Pairing a bluetooth device worked well, I used my phone. It uses voice prompts such as "Bluetooth Pairing" and "Bluetooth connected/disconnected" to help out. You can only connect to the boombox as a speaker, the boombox cannot be connected to another bluetooth speaker as a audio source, i.e. it can't be the serving device. To charge the internal battery, I found that the power switch on the back of the unit needed to be in the ON position and the power cord attached of course. Will not charge battery with the switch OFF. The power switch does not stop the unit from operating from the rechargeable internal battery, i.e. turning the power switch off won't stop the radio from playing, etc. Overall, this device hits on many nostalgic points and is very functional with all of them too. It will be sure to get some curious looks from those who might remember how super common these things were in the 80s.

Just okay...nothing to write home about.
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is OKAY, but not worth the full price. The flash drive didn't seem to work. I picked it up for 50% off so that was okay. Otherwise, I'd pass.

Good retro box!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're feeling nostalgic, have cassette tapes or would like to simply listen to FM radio this is the perfect box for that! It has a lot of different features which are pretty cool and the radio does seem pretty authentic by how it looks. I think the VU meters add a nice touch making it feel like more than just a normal cassette boom box. You have plenty of playback options, FM/AM, Cassette Tapes, Aux Input, Micro SD Card, USB, and Bluetooth. It does give you the ability to record to cassettes and, YES, you can record to SD card, USB or cassette from the different audio sources, which is pretty cool! There's a YouTube video on the ION website that shows you how to do this if you need guidance on using that feature. In terms of how it sounds, it's pretty good but don't expect it to blow away your souped-up modern Bluetooth speaker .. this clearly was designed for the retro feel and listening style for that it does this well and comparing it to other speakers like that really just isn't a fair comparison. There is a rechargeable battery and you do have the option to use normal batteries as well though it is not required and the built-in battery seemed to offer plenty of playback time in all of the use I've put it through so far. Quality-wise, I think the build could be better which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. It's good but it could be great if they stepped up the buttons to make them a bit nicer and improved on the loudness (how loud you can go before it distorts .. though it was sufficiently loud without distorting for my taste). It does have a built-in mic and headphone jack along with a Aux in port so you have plenty of source options to choose from. This is a pretty fun box to play with and if you have some old cassettes laying around and like to listen to FM/AM radio this is a great box for that! Despite a few shortcomings, this is still a good box and one that I would recommend.

Poorly Made, Cassette Player Bad
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THE CASSETTE PLAYER DOESN'T WORK! We were very excited to get our kids a vintage cassette-playing boombox, but were worried about the belts on old machines being shot, so we opted for this newly manufactured one. But it's a total loss. Sent it back. The sound is OK, not fantastic, but that's to be expected, and my kids aren't in it for the sound quality... but after about ten minutes of cassette play the belts start slipping, and the sound slows and warbles. The knobs and buttons are poorly milled and almost don't work--it's even hard to close the cassette door half the time because there is too much space for the cassette to slop around... I must assume the high reviews are from folks looking for a speaker for their phone with vintage vibes (and mediocre sound quality?!). No thanks. I ended up finding a lovely refurbished boombox with new belts on EBay. Take me back to the eighties, thank you very much.

||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s great for asethic but not really as a speaker doesn’t put the boom in boom box not as loud as I thought. Also sometimes takes forever to connect

Blast from the past + mp3s... very cool.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.MP3, Bluetooth, rechargeable battery, plus all of the features I remember as a kid.It is what it looks like - a portable music player with a lot of capability. Not overly heavy, and with straight forward feature accessibility. When I was a kid, like a lot of other people, I had a silver plastic-cased boom box that I used to play cassettes and listen to the radio. The sound quality was decent for the time, it was portable, and the cassette deck only ate a couple of my tapes. But it just quit working and I moved on to component systems... When I saw that the old style cassette capable players were on the market again, I jumped at the chance to try one out. I was very happy with the noticeably better sound and the ability to play more modern types of recordings. I really enjoyed playing with this set and listening to old and new music on a single player.

Classic look...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall design takes you back to the 80s. U fortunately so does the sound. I expected a little better sounding device but maybe it is meant to look and sound retro.

Good Little Box - Didn't Work For Me
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought it for one purpose, transferring cassettes to flash drives, and it failed to perform as I hoped it would. The tapes were fine, but the flash drive copies were unstable and glitched. I was going to return it but Best Buys return policy is only two weeks so I was a day late. I'm sure it would be fine little boom box for someone whose into boom boxes, which I am not, so I'll likely sell or give it away.
