A modern throwback with a lot of functionality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been seeing some of these throwback boomboxes showing up online recently and was thinking how great it would be to get one. This one is basically a modern version of a boombox from the 80s. It has most of the original options but updated with some later technology. Everything about them says 80s all the way down to the box it comes in. I was super excited to get one! Overall Build: I was really hoping for some metal in the build but everything is plastic. The entire body, handle, even the knobs and switches which feel very flimsy. Don t get me wrong, It looks fantastic but the build is not by any means high quality. I was a little let down by this. Sound Quality: Its just ok. A lot of bluetooth speakers in this price range sound better. I played around with some of the adjustments to try and get better sound out of it but it seems to be limited by the quality of the speakers which are just average. It does get very loud though and I like that I can adjust the treble and bass. It has a bass boost too which is true to the boom box era. Functionality: Lots of options here. It can play music from the am/fm radio, bluetooth, cassette, sd card, and USB sticks. I will mostly use the bluetooth and am/fm radio. Note that the radio reception is great. I didn't even need the antenna to get the stations in where I live. The cassette player worked pretty well but quickly reminded me of why CDs replaced them. Since it has a microphone it also has a few different recording options depending on your source and destination. Below are a list of pros and cons based on my personal usage. Pros: Great looking and stays true to the 80s boom box look Lots of functionality AM/FM reception is great Supports Bluetooth Can run on AC power cord Cassette player USB and SD card slots Microphone Audio jack and aux Internal battery that seems to last pretty long Has a few different src/dest recording options Can accept D batteries if your off-grid and internal battery dies Cons: All plastic build Speakers average sounding Overall this boombox looks fantastic and has a ton of functionality but the build quality and sound quality keep it from being a 5 star boombox. If you looking for something that has the retro look and with a lot of options to play your tunes I think you will be satisfied but don't expect high end audio quality from it.

I love this Boombox!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, I have been eagerly awaiting for this item to arrive. Today it came and I am not dissapointed. Being a child of the cassette and "boombox" era, this was a no brainier for me to check out. It has the weight, build, and feel of the classic Panasonic and Sony radios I had back in the 80's. For power, it uses a cord, 6d batteries, and also has a built lithium battery with an estimated 6 hour run time (Which I have not yet to test full duration). It has very good sound and surprisingly good adjustability to use a mono, stereo, or bass boost setting, with modulation of trebel and bass. This unit has level meters on either side that are analogue needle, and an led one also, but unless you really crank it, they don't move much. This does get very loud. Recording the level meters may bounce more, but I have not busted out my blank cassettes from storage to test the built in mics. Cassettes play smoothly and sound good. This connected smoothly to my phone, and I sound was good. There is also an auxiliary jack, micro SD card, and a USB slot, all connected well. There are controls to skip, stop, and pause play on the unit also. You can also record onto micro SD and USB. I am very pleased with this Boombox. It seems do do what it says, stylish with good sound.

Retro Novelty with modern Connectivity
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Finally a cool looking BT speaker system that looks better than some futuristic pillbox tube. This boombox will be nostalgic for older folks but its also a more interesting design for younger kids as well. My daughter never used a real boombox, but she loves the design and uses this daily in her room to stream music over BT as well as listen to her radio tuner which has been lost on newer devices as well. I have to dig up some old mix tapes but she loves how she can record music from multiple sources to create her own tracks as well. Only problem now is tapes are kinda expensive now, and other than her ION boom box, where are you going to find a cassette deck anymore? Maybe she will want a Walkman next? Either way its a fun device that has kept her entertained for hours.

Decent, but could easily be way better.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's pretty much, in a universal sense, moderately above average. If you're after the look and the basic features then go for this. Where it could be better at is the sound. Don't get it twisted, it doesn't sound bad, but it also doesn't sound nearly as good as the look of this boombox would lead most to believe. It just isn't very loud. It doesn't blare and it's not poor sound quality, in fact the sound quality is actually pretty good, that much is on point, but IDK I suspect most will look at this and think big old powerful ghetto blaster. Sorry, it doesn't live up to that description, at all. But again, features are there and the sound it does produce is decent, so I can't in all fairness be too critical of this. Just a bit of a letdown given appearance.

The beauty is only skin-deep
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First the good: * They got the aesthetics right. Until you get up close, it really does look like a boombox from the early to mid 1980s. And when you pick it up, the handle is sturdy and the weight is right for its size. For many people, this alone will justify getting it. * The sound quality is pretty similar to a 1980s boombox of the same size – it has 5-inch speakers rated at 15 watts each, so it can get decently loud, and the bass and treble controls have a good range of adjustment. (But what look like tweeters are just a decoration, again similar to many vintage boomboxes.) * The built-in USB/SD card player can play WMA, WAV, and FLAC files as well as MP3s. * The built-in rechargeable lithium battery is convenient, and you can also use AC power or regular D batteries. Then the bad: * The "bass boost" setting is useless. All it does is cause a lot of distortion, even at low volume levels. * The quality control of the cassette recorder mechanism is poor. On my example, it played too fast and had very bad flutter (warbly sound). On another one I heard in a video review, it didn't have the flutter problem, but the azimuth (head alignment) was way off, causing very muffled sound. You'll have to be lucky to get one whose tape deck does not have any issues. * The cassette deck's record button is contained within the play button, making it too easy to press by accident. * The analog "VU" meters don't respond until you really turn up the volume, and the needles are too bouncy, so they don't give an accurate representation of the audio level. * Despite the manufacturer claiming that the LED display acts as a recording level meter for the cassette deck, and the graphics on the front panel implying that it will also show the level of battery charge and tuning indication on the radio, it does none of these things. It's just an audio power meter, and like the analog meters, doesn't also show anything unless you crank up the volume. * The radio has annoying choppiness as you tune in FM stations (typical of modern DSP-based tuners) and the AM reception is poor, especially when charging the built-in battery, which causes interference.

Nice Little Throwback
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This boombox looks really cool and is easy to use. The speakers and sound quality aren't the best. But, using this with headphones makes a big difference. Good for around the house and social use.

Good unit for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to archive some cassette tapes. This function works well - fairly simple and intuitive. Just note that your USB or flash drive needs to be formatted for "FAT." Not Ex-FAT. The sound is ok. At low volumes for intimate listening it's good. This isn't meant for a big room or outdoors, where it distorts at high volume. But for small rooms, for recording to USB, or emergency radio, it's a good unit for the price.

Could been better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The switches feels loose compared to the original JVC, RCA, Sony, Pioneer and even from RadioShack Realistic brand had better sound and build quality. Speakers are terrible at high volume. ION this could been a hit now that Best Buy stop selling the best boombox out there TDK Boombox. Just too bad they missed the market holiday season.

Posted .There is an internal Lithium Ion Battery which can be charged with the accompanying charging cable. There is an optional battery compartment to provide further power, but those batteries will not recharge when plugged in.
