I had doubts on whether this could stick to my contoured, textured dash but figured why not give it a shot. In the box there are two metal backplates with adhesive, a smooth mount to place on extremely textured dashboards so the iOttie can adhere to, a plastic protector to place between your phone and the plate to minimize damage, and the iOttie iTap 2 Dash Mount. I really didn't think this would stick to my dash until i peeled the plastic protector off the suction cup. Tapping on it felt like those slappy hand toys I used to play with to grab sheets and people's faces with, lol. My hopes were high this was gonna work. I grabbed a friend who was walking by and had him put his fist out and I mounted the iTap 2 the top of his hand. Holy smokes! it stuck, and stuck good. When i removed it I also took a little skin off, dead skin so no pain involved. A quick rinse under the sink and it was good as new, just like the slappy hands! Now to the car! So I find a nice spot on the dash, but heck no it can't stick to this. It's curved, bumpy texture's gotta be the bane for dash mounts. Darn it if the iTap 2 did it again and stuck right on the dash securely... for a few seconds. Seems it was my fault. I forgot to engage the lever to add more suction. Re-mounted it and hit the leaver and it's been stuck on the dash for over a week now, even in 100+ F weather. Just a note, the plates will interfere with wireless charging and it's stated in the manual. You MUST place the plate away from the charging area. I've driven about 1000mi down highways and bumpy back roads and the iTap 2 has remained secure. My phone has stayed fast and I have no fear of it dropping - Galaxy s10+. The only thing I wish it had was a longer neck, but I'd suspect that it would cause a little stability issue and I'd rather have a secure phone than have the convenience of not reaching two extra inches!

The iOttie - iTap 2 Magnetic Dash Mount truly surprised me. When I first saw it, I didn’t but think too much of it as it appeared to be a simple looking mount. Needless to say, I was wrong about it. The iOttie - iTap 2 Magnetic Dash mount is a sturdy piece of equipment for your phone. I am used to the cheaper mounts that I usually purchase elsewhere online with the knob behind the mount to tighten the ballstud. I noticed that the iOttie - iTap 2 Magnetic Dash Mount did not have something like this, but when you swivel the mount, it appears to be very sturdy without it. Although it looks like any other simple little mount, the iOttie has a REALLY strong magnet to hold you phone. The mounting suction cup is strong, so no issues there. The only downside I see to this is when it comes time to switch cases or phones. The iOttie - iTap 2 Magnetic Dash mount comes with two metal stripes for one phone, so Il guessing I’ll have to buy, or find a way to reuse the old metal plates that come with the case. Aside from that one drawback, the iOttie - iTap 2 Magnetic Dash mount is great!

    Just a GREAT phone mount

This phone mount is something for the books. I have had several phone mounts over the last couple of years and this is the first one that I felt confident my phone wasn’t going to go fly off of. So out of the box, it doesn’t look like much; just your regular windshield/dash phone mount. It’s nice enough, but it doesn’t look any different from any of the other ones I’ve owned. I will admit that the first thing I did was test out the magnetic strength. I slipped both size magnetics, one at a time, between my phone case and my phone to see if that made a difference in the “grip” and how well the mount held onto the phone. I was extremely impressed and pleased to see that both worked wonderfully and it took quite a force to knock my phone loose. After testing the magnetic pull, I tested out the difference between the windshield and the dash to see if the mount was better suited for one or the other. I did notice how sticky the suction cup was and that gave me hope that it wouldn’t fall of my windshield. I left it there for a few days to make sure that the changing weather didn’t have any effects on the suction cup and I’m pleased to tell you that it took a little bit a brute strength to get it off my windshield. The mount came with a 3M disk to adhere to the dash and then the mount to that. I’ve had no problems with the mount coming off the disk or my phone coming of the mount while driving and stopping. This is the best phone mount that I’ve ever come across.

Strong Magnet - Best without case

Solid vehicle cell phone mount with a strong magnet. Comes with two sizes and a protective plastic to put onto the phone so there is no damage. Without a case, this is one of the strongest I’ve seen. If you have a thin case, you will probably be okay as well. Very sturdy even when hitting some rough patches during the drive. The only snag was when the case was still on the phone. It is a thicker, more protective case and the magnets have a tough time holding it in place. One bump and it fell off. Not everyone needs a thick case and this vehicle mount will be perfect for those that don’t need to use “rugged” type cases. It is very helpful for maps, incoming calls, texts, etc. Don’t text while driving but you can certainly keep your eyes up top with this in place. I recommend giving it a try.

Overall the magnetic base is good. However, the adhesive that is supposed to stick to your phone, not so much. It actually came off after I had left my phone lying on the metal piece overnight. The next day I went to work (I drive a lot) and in the middle of the day, I picked up my phone and low and behold the magnetic portion stuck to the base and not to my phone. The great thing is though, I used industrial strength glue and now the magnet won't even fall off when on a tractor. I also use the base on the roof of my vehicle, and my phone hangs there with no problem. I'm impressed by the base just not the adhesive.

This is exactly what you would want out of car mount - - its sturdy, and not made of flimsy plastic - the magnet is super strong, and is able to hold on to phones no matter if the phone is hung on in the center or closer to the edge. - sticking to the magnet - it is good enough that the phone doesn't inadvertently rotate either - it works well through a simple case as well The only issue I have is, that the metal plates look weird on the phone if the color doesn't match your phone's but hey you know what you are getting into. In the box you get the - - mount - 2 magnetic strips (a big square about 1.5 in, a small rectangular one) - a protective film which you can use with the magnetic strips if you are worried about scratches on your phone due to the magnetic strips

Great for small phones for bigger phones depends

I've been ignoring magnetic phone mounts for a while due to the fact I wireless charge my phone. Using one meant giving up wireless charge or having to remove the case to charge it which I'm not a fan of either. To mitigate this iOttie includes 2 different size magnet pads. One is a large magnet pad for non-wireless charge phones and a smaller one to prevent interference with the wireless charger. Both magnets are thin enough to be used with a Tech 21 case. The smaller magnet would have to be installed towards the bottom of the phone. Since most of the time, the wireless coils are located in the middle of the phone. If you used the large magnet it holds the phone steady with no movement at all. Problem with the smaller magnet on a tall phone like the Note 9 the phone tends to slides to a horizontal position which causes you to constantly adjust it back to place. The last thing you want is another distraction while you're driving. If you don't use the wireless charge feature at all you should be fine with the large magnet pad. On a smaller phone like an iPhone 7 or Pixel 3, this shouldn't be a problem. The issue is more of a minor inconvenience on larger phones. Overall the magnets themselves are very strong and do a good job of holding my smaller phone the pixel 3 in place while my driving.

I have a competitor's mount, but the iOttie is nice and compact vs. the one I currently use. I have the original Google Pixel so I have the metal plate adhered to the glass back from my current mount. I swapped mounts on the windshield and that was that. I didn't need to change plates as the rare metals from each worked. The way most products work today, I figured it would repel the phone and I'd have to remove the old and stick on the new. Now I'm able to use the iOttie mount in my truck and still have the old brand in the car. It works great for me and I'd recommend it to anyone needing a new mount or one for a second vehicle.

I’ve never been thrilled with cell phone mounts. They did not fit my phone well, did not stay in place and were often cheaply made. With that in mind , I did not have a lot of high hopes for the iOttie - iTap 2 Magnetic Dash & Windshield Mount. I was wrong, I really like this mount. However, I can see some caveats for some people. The iTap 2 has two mounting options - one for the dash and one for the windshield. I cannot stand gluing a plate to my dashboard for mounting anything. I can also see in hot climates that adhesive not lasting ( there are some reviews of that very thing.) That is your first caveat. So I chose to mount it using the suction cup on the windshield. Since this is a magnetic mount, you must either attach the provided metal plate to your phone or a different, large metal plate to the back of your phone case. Let me ask you, do you really want to glue a metal plate to your nice, expensive phone. Of course not, that is just silly talk. So there is your 2nd caveat - if you are going to use the iTap 2, I strongly recommend having a case on your phone that is designed with a magnetic mount in mind. It very important to keep in mind any magnetic mount that requires metal plates on the phone or case may interfere with wireless charging. iOttie has specific instructions on where and where not to mount the metal plate. In nearly all cases the Qi wireless charging coil in the center of the phone so locating the metal plate towards the bottom of the phone is advised. So how did it work for me? Just great. I was worried that the suction cup would not be powerful enough to handle bumps and changes in temperature. Never one did it fall off my windshield. I’ve left the mount on for nearly two weeks and it has not wavered. Additionally, the magnetic mount to the phone stayed in place through all types of normal driving. I have a Google Pixel XL 2 and it is a relatively large phone and there were no issues with it staying in place. In summary, everything worked as advertised with no negatives to speak of. It is well built and reasonably priced. If you keep in mind that I installed the the iOttie - iTap 2 Magnetic Dash & Windshield Mount to my windshield and used a phone case, you will be happy if you install it the same way.

Great design. Stronger than most i have tried. I have a Note 9 so the magnet has to be on the bottom to keep wireless charging. Vertically it works within reason with my case on. I have a Nissan Frontier and i actually mount the phone sideways. The slot on top of the dash fits the phone perfectly and the mount secures it great. There are limitations but not because of the design. Some cases are thicker and phones are getting larger. This is as good as it gets for a magnetic mount.

iOttie still has the best dash mounting system

    Posted .

I've tried many phone mounts in the past and most of them would just fall off the dashboard in the Texas sun. iOttie is the only produce I've used which actually sticks the dash and stays stuck over years. While I haven't had this mount for a long time, the mounting system looks the same as previous generations, with the dash pad + stick suction cup, which bodes well for longevity. The magnetic mounting system for the phone is honestly only average, but it works fine, holding the phone securely. I'm not a huge fan of the magnetic mounting system since it requires attaching something to your phone, but to each their own. The mount is stable enough to not wobbly when driving. Overall, buy the iOttie for the dash-mounting system; this system alone sets it far above the rest of the competition.

I love my iOttie iTap2 windshield mount! The mount attached securely to the dashboard and the phone case magnet is very strong. I used the mount for a 5-hour road trip and the magnet never failed. Easy to understand instructions. I would highly recommend this product and have actually purchased another as a gift.

Straight forward setup be it on glass or dashboard. I prefer the dashboard setup but feel that due to the limited adhesion capability of plastic dashboard that not as strong a grip is provided. But no issues on dashboard. The windshield feels much stronger and just reduces overall visibility by a tad. The magnetic mounts come in two sizes with the smaller best fir the back of your phone to not interfere with any wireless charging pad’s functions. Great item and very durable with fantastic ease of rotation for varying viewing angles.

I wasn't sure if I could even get this to stick anywhere in my truck, the dash has a lot of curves and the texture is pretty coarse. I found a fairly smooth spot and stuck the base down. The small magnet fit well on my phone's case and when I put it near the base, it stuck very well. I fired up Maps when we started a short trip and was impressed by the ease it was to see where it was mounted. I figured with our 100+ degree days that it wouldn't last long, but it has been about a week and it has done well even when left on the dash all day. I wouldn't have any problem recommending this to anyone looking for a phone mount for their dash.

Great Suction, Magnet Could be Stronger

I've always used car mounts that hook into the air vent of my truck and have never had one that will suction to the dash or windshield. I as very surprised at how well the mount stayed suctioned to the dash and windshield. In the Box : Yout get the mount, a clear plastic sticker to protect your phone from the metal plate, and two metal plates of varying sizes. The larger plate can be used under a case, while the smaller one can be used on the outside of the case. Use: I'm using the mount with the Apple leather case and was a little underwhelmed at the magnet strength. Getting the suction cup to mount to the dash was really easy and incredibly strong. I had a very hard time actually getting it off the dash. This thing is not going to slide around on you. The magnet is fairly easy to attached but, under my case it will start to fall off the mount if I hit a bump hard enough. I don't think it would work very well if you had an Otterbox or something like that. Overall though I think it works really well for what it is. I also have a wireless charger and the large metal plate doesn't interfere with the wireless charger if you place it at the bottom of the phone. It would interfere if you wanted to use the magnet it the center of the phone. Not a huge deal in my opinion but, it is something to keep in mind. Overall, I think this is a great option for a car mount but, probably wouldn't work if you use a thick phone case.

I'll keep this simple, this phone mount actually works really well! It comes with 2 metal plates; one for your phone and one for your case of you have one. The phone then sticks to the mount by magnetic force. The mount attaches to a base that is placed on a flat surface via adhesive. Be warned, once your attach the suction cup, it is extremely difficult to remove so place it exactly where you want it. As far as bumps and rough road, they do nothing to this mount or the phone! I am very impressed.

I own an Iphone Xs Max which is the phone this was purchased for. The holder comes with two magnet squares that go in between your phone case and the holder itself. A larger one and a smaller lower profile one. Attaching the holder is fairly simple with a suction cup type method to the glass of your windshield or the vinyl dashboard itself. I had no issues attaching the holder itself to my vinyl dashboard but the phone does not stay stable on the holder. I am using the larger of the two magnets on the back of my phone case to make contact but it will easily over power the holder and cause the phone to fall. Should mention the holder also comes with a protective piece of plastic to put over the magnet in your case to protect your phone backing. Overall not that impressed with this for my particular phone as it does not seem hold the xs max well at all. I think a smaller phone would work just fine but if you have a large phone I would look elsewhere.
