    Targeted by technology criminals

    I was being targeted from Indonesia, California, New Jersey and another country. They got in thru my Xfinity acct-cell phone #. They also broke into my banking app, set up a new bill payee and sent out a payment…which fortunately the Bill Pay Dept recognized it as a fraudulent account and stopped the payment. We closed all of my accounts & opened new ones. We made sure that it was set up with a dual factor authorization. They broke in again and set up 2 more payments which was sent out which I noticed and again stoped the payouts. The bsnk thought these people were actually in my phone. They suggested that I get my Mac laptop & phone “cleaned. That took me to the Geek Squad. The young man that helped me (who I think was the manager) went thru my phone pretty thoroughly checking for any telltale signs that they “ were in my phone “ but found none. He explained to me that they are unable to “ clean” an iPhone but they could clean my laptop. Apparently it is “next to impossible” but no one will say that it is totally impossible so I left the laptop to be cleaned. They found nothing. Since the laptop & phone are linked, it was another verification that the were not in my phone. When I went to pick up the laptop, I was waited on by the same employee. I asked him how this could all happened. He said he thinks they got in thru “spoofing” (hope I am using the right word). I asked him what the heck was I going to do. He suggested I go to Xfinity, get my number changed and immediately afterward set up a new password. I did that with the help of the Xfinity employee who did it all for me ( except I entered my new password.). He also suggested that it might be a good call on my part to spend an extra $30.00 or so to buy the annual plan with Best Buy. It made sense to me so I did. During this time, I also closed all of my accounts at the bank I was at (which was the bank I retired from) and opened new accounts at another bank, I asked the Geek Squad employee if he thought they could find me again. He said he didn’t know but to be sure the dual factor authorization on Xfinity as well. Believe me when I say I probably asked him a lot of pretty dumb questions but he was so nice - even telling me there are no dumb questions (which my sons both tell me I ask when talking about all technologies). I really liked him and I totally appreciated his calm professionalism as I was extremely upset and worried about this whole experience. I do not think I am going to do Bill Pay at my new bank. I have been setting up an auto pay from each of my payees so they can just debit the payment from my account at the new bank, I am a retired (46 years) banker and this whole thing just floored me, Fortunately, because of my background, I had already frozen all credit bureaus, which is good since they even had all of my personal information, including my SS#. This was a terrifying experience for me but your employee(s) help was invaluable to me. As a PS, I’ll add that during my several trips to the Geek Squad, my iPhone battery was going out so I also had a new battery installed. Since they also set up Apple insurance ( or whatever that is called,). I received a discount on the new battery. - another plus for going to the Geek Squad. I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciated all the help I received.from your employee(s). I am still scared that these criminals will find me again. I am being very careful but it is good to know I have a place I can go to for help. My oldest son is considering buying your annual coverage as he was very impressed about all the help I received. Thank you very much.
