I had wanted a Roomba 770 for a couple of years. I wanted to make house cleaning a little easier for me since I work so much and my hours are crazy. I looked forward to setting the schedule up and having it clean while I was at work. I let it charge for a day before using it for the first time. I was so excited when I bought this thing home and even more excited to see how it would handle my hardwood floors. The first cleaning took a little over 2 hours, and this was in a small area. I figured that it needed time to figure out the area, which was my living room and open kitchen area. The Roomba clumsily bumped into walls, furniture and everything else. It went on no specific pattern and even missed a few spots several times after going over several other spots time and time again. It did, however, avoid going down the stairs, but still missed areas. I tried the Roomba 770 again and it still to over 2 hrs. I promise, my area is very small, about 700 sq feet. I tried it once more. It bumped into my $200 table that I used to display my military awards on so hard that it knocked my military awards onto the floor. I was done after that! I worked to hard and sacrificed too much. Those awards mean so much to me. I also noticed that the brushes scratched up my hardwood floors in my brand new home that I just purchased. What a disappointment. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Happy wife happy life. Works like it was intended. No problems so far. The only thing that could make it better is if the towers could be plugged into the wall. The batteries don't seem to last very long.

Vacuum yourself? Please iRobot is here

The iRobot is awesome. My wife and I love this thing. We both use to have to vacuum every once a week or more depending on how dirty the place is. When we first bought this thing my wife intermediately opened it up and watched the DVD. In minutes, she already knew how to use it. Its that easy! So we let it go its course and it picked up a fair amount of stuff. In the beginning, the compartment where it stores the dust was getting extremely full, so we knew it was working. As it kept going throughout the week the dust because less and less. That's how we knew it was working and also how we knew it was doing its job, the carpet felt very clean. It picks up my wife's hair flawlessly, picks up dusty, picks up carpet, picks up pieces of nail or whatever is on our carpet. When it is low on battery or when its done cleaning, it knows how to return itself back to its home. We currently set it for 2 days out of a week and our apartment is so clean its ridiculous! Cleaning of the machine is simple also.

In theory this is a great product, however in practice it falls short. I have an 8.5'x18' room that I use this in that has a 2'x6' counter across shortwise, and tile floor. The roomba appears to split this room in two, and only focus on one side. If it gets to the bigger area (which is open), it paths great along the walls, but will miss large spots in the center of the room. It will run out of battery charge in about 10-15 minutes, and at about 8 minutes it powers itself down so the vacuum isn't as strong. I schedule it for 3 nights a week, but unfortunately, it appears that me and a broom are more time efficient and useful than this product. I cannot recommend it for hard floors that see a lot of use.

One of the best things I've ever purchased!

The Roomba 770 is quite possibly one of the best things I've ever purchased for any home or apartment I've ever lived in. I currently live in an apartment with hardwood floors, area rugs, and a cat. I was constantly finding cat hair tumbleweeds drifting through my apartment and was vacuuming the rugs every weekend. Now, thanks to the Roomba 770, I haven't found a single hair tumbleweed and only have to vacuum once a month. The Roomba fits under my bed, dresser, and night stand. There is no longer a layer of dust on the hardwood under my furniture and I never come home to cat hair on the floor or rugs anymore. I love the fact that you can schedule the device to clean at certain times on certain days, and now that my floors are relatively clean at all times, I only have to empty the bin once a week. And I'm always amazed at what it's tracked down, and picked up, throughout the week. My only complaint would be that it sometimes gets caught on the edge of the rugs and seems to view any cable, (power or otherwise) as dirt/dust on the floor and sometimes gets stuck or tries to clean them for so long that the battery dies. (This is no longer an issue now that I'm using the virtual walls.) Overall, this is a fantastic product that has changed my life and cleaning schedule for the better!! Thanks Roomba!

This is our second Roomba, the first one we had was a hand-me-down that nobody seemed to think worked well. My wife and I have two dogs and two cats which track a significant amount of sand onto our laminate floor. However, it worked well enough for us that we went from sweeping our laminate floors twice a week to once a month. The last Roomba did a fair job but this one does a significantly better job of picking up all the sand, hair, and debris on our floor and not getting clogged. The battery charges very quickly as well as I have run it three full times in a day when I have forgotten to empty the bin and gone away on business. I wish the waste bin was larger, but all Roombas have this problem and I must say this is the perfect product for people that have a wood floor that has to be constantly cleaned.

Roomba is great, if you know its limits

I love the Roomba! I've had the 770 for a month and used it several times. The extra oomph and the scheduling ability of the 770 is great, especially if you have pets. It's lived up to their promises and my expectations. I fired it up right out of the box and it started cleaning right away. Some observations: - It vacuums well. I have a long-haired dog and a child, so there is plenty of hair, crumbs, and other stuff on the floor. The 770 does the job. - It's simple to use. Press the big button in the middle and it'll vacuum the room until it's done, or set up a schedule for it to run while you're gone. Have a really dirty spot or a just need to clean up a small spot? Use the spot clean function - it only takes about a minute. - One reviewer complained that it wandered aimlessly, but as the website and video explains, it does this by design so it can clean better through multiple passes. Remember, they are assuming you'll set Roomba to run while you're not around, and so you won't care how it cleans, as long as it does. - You need to empty the canister after each run, and you need to clean the brushes regular. If you do, it'll keep doing it's job well. If you don't - well, that's your fault. It's quick to do - a lot quicker than vacuuming your house. - If you have a big house (or multiple floors), don't expect Roomba to clean the whole house on one run. Just set it up to clean different sections on different days. - Make sure to pick up anything you don't want it to suck up. If it's solid (a trash can, a big book), Roomba will bounce off of it and move on. But it can suck up a yarn string or even a child's sock - trust me. So pick up the room first. (The included virtual wall works pretty well, but realize the wall has a length limitation.) But remember, Roomba can't do everything. I knew what to expect, so I wasn't disappointed. Here are some items to keep in mind so you're not let down: - Roomba can't get everywhere. I have a short space under our kitchen cabinets - the rotating brush that sticks out the side can reach under it a bit, but not entirely. I also have a small bathroom with a lot of tight corners that are too small for it. If you use a vacuum on counter tops, window sills, and the like, Roomba obviously can't help with that. And of course - stairs. If you have a small hand-vac, then you'll be covered for these small jobs. - It can take a while for Roomba to clean a room. They tell you it takes about 30 minutes, but for a big room, it can take longer. Again, they're assuming you're not around when Roomba runs, so time isn't a big issue. - If you're the kind of person that has clutter all over your floors, Roomba is not for you. If it's in Roomba's way, it'll probably get sucked up. - Dog owners: your dog will not appreciate the Roomba. I bought my Roomba to replace my old canister vacuum with a carpet attachment that doesn't work well. I also have a small hand-vac. A good hand-vac is a must to get in the tighter quarters where Roomba can't fit. But even with that, my vacuuming workload is much, much, much easier, and the results are as good as my old canister vac. Roomba really has given me more free time, which was the main reason I bought it. I can't speak for its longevity yet - hopefully it will continue to work this well for quite a while. Roomba isn't right for everyone or every house, but if your layout and clutter level permit it, you'll love it.
