From Hollywood's golden age of 3d, comes this Sci fi, classic. Richard Carlson from Creature from the black lagoon,and even Russell Johnson (the professor from Gilligan's Island) how's that for fun? Excellent film -- worthy of Rod Serling but based on a screenplay by Ray Bradbury and adopted for this film. This 50s sci-fi s classic was filmed with *real* 3D cameras so the depth is natural and immersive without feeling dialed in in post. The B&W cinematography is gorgeous bordering on noir. The original classic Academy aspect ratio has been retained. The directional three channel stereophonic sound is clear with the dialog never buried in the mix. There are some very good extra. This is an exemplary release and bodes well for future releases of 3D classics! A keeper.

I love 3D and this is a perfect example of how a 3D movie should be made. The 3D effects do NOT overtake the story. Good story, good character development and the then FUN 3D effects that aid in the storytelling. This is a perfect example if you want to see experience an older 3D experience when 3D was a fun thing to see in the movies at the start of television. The movies needed a gimmick to get folks back into the theater. It was at this time that 3D and stereo sound came about. If you have a 3D TV, add this to your collection. :-)

Another great 3D Blu-ray title done by 3D Film Archive. If you want the best 3D , buy their titles. Others they have done are The Mask, Gog, 3-D Rarities, The Bubble, and Dragonfly Squadron.

After 6 years of 3D Blu-ray there's finally a golden age exclusive from a major retailer at a great price. I would have paid much more for such a quality product.

My review is for the 2D version only. The Blu-ray video quality on this 1953 black and white movie co-written by Ray Bradbury is very good. It also includes an informative commentary by film historian Tom Weaver who gives information on the cast including star Richard Carlson and co-stars such as Russell Johnson The Professor on GILLIGAN'S ISLAND, but for some odd reason, never mentions the lead female Barbara Rush. The special features also includes a sci fi documentary. One complaint is that, unlike most sci fi movies from the same era, this one doesn't have a battle between the aliens and the military which would have added more drama and excitement to it.

what a great 3D movie. The "creature" is laughable, but that's what makes these old movies so enjoyable. And the acting is over the top. For 1953 it doesn't get much better especially because I can watch it on a new 3D tv. Never thought the technology would carry over, but it does. Incredilble.

The film is very good. Video and audio are in great shape. The 3D is excellent. An older but worthwhile featurette is included as well as a commentary and the trailer in 3D. Good deal for a classic film.
