It's Alright
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned two of these contraptions and I didn't have a problem finding a station that worked. I tend to travel a lot, so this was my solution for listening to spotify or audible books from my phone. I did have to change the stations a few times, but I accepted that fate when I knew this was using radio signals. The only thing I absolutely HATE about this item is how the wires easily break; especially when you live in a place that experience cold weather. I've lost both of mine due to this issue. Also, the changing ability on one stopped working a few months after purchase. So, there's that. I would love to get another one, but I can't justify the price when I've lost both within a years time. Maybe I'll just finally tell myself to have an auxiliary port installed in my car. One day my dream will come true of doing that.

3 months of use is not worth $50!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first got the product, it worked okay. I figured it was a good investment to be able to play music in my car. After about a month, I started having issues with it. It would turn to complete static in a lot of places I put my phone in the car (of course the convenient ones, like the middle console or my lap) and only work well when I put my phone in certain places (such as the passenger door handle or sandwiched between the passenger visor and the roof of the car). Seriously. I dealt with it because at least it worked when I put it in those places. Now, three months later, if completely broke. The screen with the station number has a wire coming out of both ends, and the rubber has come unattached exposing the underwire, probably why it doesn't work anymore. This might have been okay for $20, but the fact that I spent $50 on it is really unreasonable. I'm obviously not the only one who has had issues with this product. Go for a better one! You'll spend the same amount.

First one was great, second one is a dud
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had purchased one of these over a year ago in order to be able to listen to my iPod in the car. It was also useful in that it doubled as a car charger for my phone (or the iPod, as the need arose on long trips). However, that initial iTrip was lost when someone broke into my vehicle this summer. Having had no problems with the first one (other than the occasional background static or need to switch frequencies, as mentioned by other reviewers), I immediately went out and bought another one to replace it. The only difference I could see between them was that the first one was black and the new one was silver and black. At any rate, it worked great for a while. But I have had it about four months now, and it doesn't work more often than it does. The USB port still charges devices with no problem, but the cable for channeling the iPod to the radio apparently is kaput. I will be in the middle of listening to a song or podcast when the power suddenly dies on the iTrip. The radio switches to loud static and the display on the iTrip goes blank. Occasionally I can get the connection to resume by unplugging and replugging the iTrip into the power port, wiggling the plug or the wires...and sometimes nothing works. Haven't pulled my receipt and warranty, but I suspect I have no recourse at this point. Very disappointing for something that costs $50+ (after tax). Not sure what else I can use to listen to my iPod in the car since I don't have an auxiliary jack, but I'll be looking for another alternative unless Griffin will replace this one.

A great product with an extra step added...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This transmitter works on the US default setting unless you change it. US cars are set to play frequencies from 88.1 on up. In the Phoenix ares I've found my clearest reception comes from 87.9. As long as you can manually set your car radio to frequencies below 88.1 this product will put out fabulous sound. The steps to get there are: 1. Before buying the itrip, make sure your radio can tune lower than 88.1 (87.9 will work for the directions below). 2. Buy it, then set it up in your car as described in the quick start guide (pretty easy - just plug everything in) 3. After you have plugged everything in, hold down + and - at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until you see the LX/DX choice pass you by and then stop pushing + and - when you see the flashing "US". When you see the flashing "US", hit the + sign to select INTL instead. This just expands your signal options to go below 88.1 (88.1 is the lowest frequency upon which United States stations can broadcast). Give it a few seconds to go back to the normal screen and your setting is automatically saved. 4. Manually tune your radio and the itrip to 87.9 (note: to manually tune itrip, just click the + or -). If you like the way 87.9 sounds, hold down "SmartScan" until you see P1 and then it is a preset. If 87.9 doesn't tickle your fancy, you could even try 87.7. 87.9 works best for me and the sound quality is markedly better than the 100.3 the SmartScan found automatically. It is also suggested that you need to try to keep the transmitter as close to the radio as possible due to limited range. The manual also says you can switch to DX for stronger signal, but I left mine at LX (stereo) because the signal is great now that I went to international. I live in a very densely populated area with lots of radio stations and I am very happy with my purchase. So don't toss or return it til you've tried these steps. It's worth a try! Why Griffin doesn't include this info must be because of some FCC legal stuff, but the extra effort makes all the difference in the world. Try keeping your iPod volume between 40 and 80%, it helps. Good luck!

Not the best - but it does what it needs to.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After reading the other review on this product I decided to go with this option to be able to listen to my droid music through the radio. I have an older model vehicle that doesn't have a usb port or audio port to plug in my device to listen to music off of my droid nor do I have a tape deck option. I didn't want to spend the money or time on getting the auxiliary port added to my stock stereo although I may do that in the future if this doesn't keep working. At this time I followed the instructions of setting the device to international mode and manually set it to 87.9 and left it LX (DX did sound a bit crisper). I am getting good audio and clear audio from the device. I did find out that running this option with the bluetooth headset enable does seem to cause some conflicts. I suggest unplugging it if you want to use your bluetooth to talk to someone on the phone. This has worked also great for using the GPS built in my phone as well. This one seems to turn off for some strange reason and I may need to exchange it out for another one but going to give it some more time and try and determine why it just turns off for no reason. It hasn't turned off while playing music but has when not running audio through it. So, not quite sure yet. I may need to plug it into the cigarette adapter instead of the auxiliary adapter and that might make the difference as well. I will see. Due to the issues I've experienced I cannot give it a higher than average score. This device is compatible with more than the iPhone and you can use your usb charger for the phone instead of your other car charger so if you only have one plug in adapter in the front this can be advantageous for the design. If you can live with some of these inconveniences of a FM transmitter than for the price it really is a good device due to the fact you can get a channel that isn't in the broadcast range of the US.
