    Needs Improvement

First and for most I know there are many other adapters I could of bought but I bought this one as a starter. This adapter its built with solid aluminum and it feels premium. the 2 usb 3 ports are nice to add functionality to my new MacBook Pro 13 inch no touch bar. I like how this device can charge your Mac and still use the ports available. Here is what gets me aggravated you can't use the USB ports while the HDMI is plugged in. I also could not get the ethernet working at all even with the latest driver from the vendors website. If there is a second revision for this product I would definitely like to see that the USB ports can be used while everything is plugged into it because for this being a "Hub" I would expect for the device to be able to handle this. Especially since all the major tech manufactures are posting one port for all your needs. While this device is a necessity with the new Macs I would definately look for another model or something else other than this. For the price point I expected more out of this device. When you are using this device to charge your Mac and use it as a USB hub it can get a little warm to the touch. While you are using the HDMI and charging it will get quite warm as well but no where near as warm as the USB and charge. For the design of this product I would of liked to see a removable cable for greater portability. The functionality is a bit to be desired for it will not work if all devices are connected such as the USB and HDMI. overall this product has a specific audience in mind and for me this works for the basics of what I would want to use. if I wanted to use my usb mouse and keyboard I guess I can always go bluetooth.

USB Type C can vary on performance

Note, this device performs exactly as it says it will, if you have the following devices. USB TYPE C PC w/ Thunderbolt* Macbook 2016 Chromebook. That is all i can say to this. However on that note.. Oddly enough USB Type C is a very difficult piece of technology to actually enjoy using when its bundled in a device like this. Nothing really wrong with the device its just the USB standard that this device is attempting to uphold is vastly dependent upon other devices, such as a macbook, and most of the features of this unit, simply do not work unless you have THAT specific device. HDMI Video out does not work on standard USB C ports unless they have Thunderbolt on PCs and Laptops. It does however work on Chromebooks as an extension display It does work on most Apple Devices. If, you use this on a standard USB C port you will NOT be able to use the HDMI out, and you will NOT be able to use the ethernet port. Also if you happen to FULLY saturate the speed of the Type C port, you will also not have full bandwidth as this device runs in 3.0 spec for some reason even though my laptops support 3.1 Lastly, from what i can tell it also does not charge my device either, which explicitly says it can do, but I presume it is a macbook specific thing as it does not charge my HP whatsoever. Again, nothing wrong with the device, it does exactly as its supposed to do, in a very limited scenario. however, paying the price for this unit, only to have just USB ports at half speed isn't exactly a great device in the long run which makes these units undesirable to many.

I gave the j5create - 2-Port USB 3.0 Hub 4 stars for that reason but to be perfectly honest I’m not total sure it is the Hub or the USB-C connection in the Yoga 720 that is the cause of the wireless input delays that I have experienced. Either way no big problem I am please with my j5create - 2-Port USB 3.0 Hub purchase.

Bought this thing tonight to pair it up with my new i9 MacBook Pro. This thing had about 4.xx stars, and I thought, let's try it. Shouldn't have done that. This thing feels ok, not too professional. I can already call that the housing after a few months of normal use will give up. It's cheap plastic all the way around, the cable feels breakable, all in all, it's just cheap. So now let the fun begin.. This thing will not charge any device. My iPad Pro, or my Samsung Note 9. In fact, my phone was displaying a whopping 33 hours for a full charge. (WHAT) Not to mention, the power pass through only works maybe a quarter of the time? I didn't even want to test the HDMI/Ethernet, I feel there's no need to waste time if it already preforms this poorly, this early into the game. Let's be honest.. You want a product that has a lot of features, like this one, for a decent price..Like this one. Guess what? You won't get the features/quality with this unit. Returning it first thing tomorrow afternoon, and either going straight up with Apple Dongles, or a different USB dock. (Ugh...)

I have an iPad Pro 12" 2018 model and I wanted to be able to add a few accessories to it. A microphone so I could do a pod cast. I bought a cheap 8 dollar jack that did not work at all, and after some research realized a microphone will require more power than the iPad Pro can produce. I picked this up at my Maplewood Best Buy and was pleasantly surprised to find that not only could I run my powered Blue Yeti Microphone but... could also add my keyboard or a camera at the same time. My only real complaint is that it could use more ports but that is not to detract from the quality. It is made of aluminum and it actually looks like it was made for my iPad. Have gotten some looks and questions from other iPad users and their comments are all very positive. I recommend this for anyone wishing to use USBC to power a hub to attach to any tablet or computer.

Unreliable at best with a PC and a Mac

I initially purchased this for my MBPr 15 2016 and my Aorus x7v6. It works for ethernet but the HDMI is unreliable at best. I tried everything and it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't on BOTH laptops. I contacted their tech support and they stated that the Aorus doesn't support DP over USB-C = this is an HDMI adapter... first FAIL. They then said I need to disconnect the adapter from not only the laptop but then disconnect the HDMI from BOTH the monitor and the adapter each time I want to use it, along with any USB or Ethernet connections... I explained this is ridiculous as a use case scenario and maybe they had a driver update because it seems to be a software issue as it works sometimes but not reliably, not even after a reboot. They kept focusing on the Aorus not supporting DP over USB-C instead of focusing on the issue that the issue happens on both and I need it for my Mac... Just an FYI, these things look like great ideas but the HARDWARE needs well writen software drivers to support it and these companies don't...

I got this in December 2018. Initial setup is a bit cumbersome. Finding the proper software on their website is also a challenge. Once I found the directions and proper download to allow the Ethernet port portion to work..I installed per the directions, great ethernet working, plugged in USB mouse, ok it works too. Fast Forward 3 months........Ethernet still works like a champ, the 3.0 USB ports (there are only 2) . The mouse starts to be very chunky responding sometimes.. as days go by it gets worse, now mouse does not work in either port, as well as no thumb drive work either....uninstalled the software (just in case) reinstall. Same issue the usb ports still not working. Will call their support line tomorrow (short East Coast hours). overall DO NOT BUY.

I bought a spool of Ethernet cable and went around my house making/routed cables everywhere. I was particularly excited to route one to my home office. Only after I did so, I realized my MacBook pro doesn't come with an Ethernet port. D'oh! So I went to Best buy hoping that they could step I up where I had failed and I found this device. It does a fantastic job at providing a solid Ethernet connection via usb-c. It also has a power in usb-c slot so you can also charge your computer from the same port as your internet! Makes for much less dongle math. Unfortunately, the power it supplies through it while good isn't the same rate as if direct from your charger. I found this out while playing a video game and it notified me of a low battery. Otherwise, it charges just fine. The only true downside to it is the transfer speed of data between the computer and devices attached to the USB inputs. I haven't tested the transfer speeds when Ethernet is plugged in but while plugged in it was painfully slow. Thankfully though, I rarely need to use USB anymore so that's a rare experience.

Was in a pinch and needed a USB-C to HDMI adapter, so I bought this one since it's about like a mini-docking station. I am a IT Consultant with over 15 years in the field. And tend to be more than a tad particular of the accessories that I buy. I had planed on returning this after my online order of what I really wanted came. But it was worked well enough that I'm going to keep it as a backup. And for me that's significant. Usually even my backups are strategically researched purchases. Everything seems to more or less be working as expected, just got a 780/911 speed test from google fiber using the ethernet. So cursory testing of the network adapter is good. Video is powering my backup monitor without issue, (1080p range, not QHD or UHD.) So a cursory video also a "go." Note: I have not tried the pass through USB-C charging feature. I have noticed that windows is making the "device connected" "device disconnected" now and then. Always seems to work, so haven't been playing close attention, perhaps it only does it when going to/coming out of sleep.

I purchased a new MacBook Pro at Best Buy. I got the late 2016 version MacBook Pro, and did not realize that it did not have the "typical" USB ports. It has a Thunderbolt (USB-C) port. I am going to be going down to college, and my apartment has a ethernet cable for internet, and Wifi in the lounges, which will not allow me to connect from my room, since I was far away. I explained this to a very awesome Best Buy Apple expert, and he recommended this gem to me. Not only does it connect directly to an ethernet cable, but it has an HDMI and 2 USB ports on it. This is a true lifesaver. I tested it out, and it works PERFECTLY! I am so impressed with the product. If you own a Mac, you need install the driver, which literally only takes 2 minutes to do. After that, you are in business. It is a little pricey to be honest, but I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed with this handy device. 5/5 stars from me. I could not do research at school without it.

Hub Works Great minus one major flaw

    Posted
    Chuck

The Hub is fast and sleek everything functions as intended except for one major flaw. Your instructed upon taking it out the box that if your a mac user you must download and install the updated firmware and drivers. This is a breeze and no problem to do. I gladly did this. I then followed the instructions for updating the charge throughs firmware to the letter. Upon plugging in the charge through zap! Saftey shut down on my brand new macbook pro. I unplugged and did the firmware upgrade again. Device pluged into the computer with no usb c power cable in click and it stats its successful. Plug it in and its charging but now I notice my computer is starting to slow. Simple functions are taking longer then normal and as a test I take out the usb c charger pass through and sure enough. Everything is back to normal. I fear out of prolonged use you could actually fry your $3000 computers logic board. That is simply not worth the risk and I will be returning this device asap.

I bought this product for my new DELL 2-in-1 which does not have the regular USB port. It came with only one adaptor to convert the newer USB 3.0 to the older type of USB port. I used all the features without any issue. What I like the most is that it is well built and it comes with everything needed for connecting a laptop to other devices. It is easy to connect cables to the different ports. I connect the HDMI to my TV and to a secondary monitor. With HDMI at 1080p worked with my TV, which is not a 4K. This is my first time using this type of product on newer laptops with USB 3.0 port. After many uses without issues, I recommend this product.

This device caused me nothing but problems. First the monitor would just flicker now and then but it just got worse from there. The computer, the latest MacBook Pro, started to have all kinds of problems and not all were related to the monitor. Applications would shut down for no apparent reason. No one else seemed to be having the same problems. It wasn't until I removed the video adapter that I noticed that the computer atarted to run better. I have sense started to use a plain hdmi view cable and USB and ether net adapter that I notice that app of problems I was experiencing were gone. Not just the video problems but also all of the problems that I thought were application or so problems. I don't recommend this device to anyone. I did work with their customer service team and had two of these devices so it wasn't just one bad device

I purchased this item for travel and home use, but it falls short. It is basically only usable for jump drives. I could not use a USB pointer/slide advancer with it, couldn't display using the HDMI port and couldn't use a click share remote display system. All of these items worked fine with the port replicator that came with my laptop, but not with the j5create - 2-Port USB 3.0 Hub with HDMI and Gigabit Ethernet USB Type-C Adapter. In addition to that my laptop starts acting crazy and unstable when the J5 is plugged into it....changing screens and moving the cursor like it is possessed. I am on the hunt for a better product and would not recommend this to anyone

I used this with a Lenovo Yoga 720. I haven't run this device fully through the paces yet, but haven't run into any problems yet, I use it for connecting an external monitor, and for that, the power it receives from the computer is fine, but it seems from other reviews that if you want to to use more than one function at a time with this, you have to find another power source (which it doesn't come with). So if, for example, you wanted to use an external monitor andthe usb connections, you would need to plug into a USB-C power source that you buy separately. At the writing of this review, these are not readily available at a cheap price. I feel that if they are going to advertise it as doing a bunch of stuff, then it should come with all the parts to do so, so I took it down a star.

I might like the J5Create multiport adapter had it worked with my PC. I have purchased 3 computers from Best Buy over the last three weeks. The first, a Dell was bad out if the box. The second, a Lenovo Yoga 910 was recommended by the sales rep. It was really nice, except I found out after getting it home that no pen (including the Bamboo Ink that the salesman recommended) will work with the 910. I took it back and got a Lenovo Yoga 920. I need to have the ability to connect to a projector. I have bought two different USB-C to HDMI adapters, but neither will work with the 920. A blackweb worked with the 910, but it will not work with the 920. Neither did the J5Create multiport adapter. I am currently looking for another 2 in 1. QUITE FRUSTRATED.

I utilize my hub to keep items ready at a desktop when I need to get serious typing college papers. Laptop is the source and this hub takes a signal through a thunderbolt port and outputs to a 27” monitor while still being able to do work as a USB connection hub. I’ve had to unplug and plug back in to get monitor to accept/ sync signal from laptop after the laptop has been in sleep mode for a while. I believe this is due to my laptop and or windows drivers rather than a fault of this device. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hub to connect a newer laptop to a desktop work station to further productivity.

I used this as a travel adapter for my Surface Book 2, while it works great, it wont drive my 4k monitors at 60hz where ever I'm at. Recently upgraded my monitor setup to a single Vizio P55-F1 monitor and it will only do 4k @ 30hz which while not terrible, makes things just a little too slow for my tastes. If you have WQHD moditors 3840x1440 etc. It's works great, but anything higher seems to lock down at 30hz. Ethernet speeds are full gigabit with no slowdowns, and the USB ports perform as expected. This does support pass through USB-C charging, but typically I use my power brick regardless due to the higher end nature of my laptops that I own.

My new Dell laptop for work was missing an Ethernet port . Even though it had built-in wireless network, I really needed a wired network for work. My Laptop only had 2 USB ports, but did have one of the newer USB-C ports. This USB-C hub with Ethernet port worked perfectly for utilizing the USB-C port on my laptop while also providing me with an Ethernet port I needed and extra USB 3 ports. As a bonus it also has an HDMI port for my external display. A lot of reviews on other USB-C hubs I read about had compatibility problems or with USB ports not working. This hub worked perfectly without any problems or needing any drivers for Windows 10. It also doesn't need any bulky power adapter either.

You get what it says it does. Nothing more. Its a bulky item in that it isnt very mobile friendly. The cord always seems to hand at an awkward feeling location from where it plugs into the PC from whatever u may need also plugged into it. Seems to minimize how far u can travel with a wireless keyboard or mouse. And some issues with the webcam connection going in and out frequently even though not really being moved. Seems to work best when power cord is plugged into it as well, and also charging your machine simultaneously. it is what it is... My new HP spectre only has 1 usb and NO ETHERNET connection so i need it, it works. just a bit of a hassle sometimes
