Performed well for the first month then in the 5th week exhibited intermittant failure, then in the 6th week total failure. Devices plugged into this device were a 2 month old Samsung T3 SSD 250GB, 6 year old HP printer, and 10 year old Epsom scanner. A new 7 port hub from a different manufacturer reveals nothing is wrong with with any plugged in device. I later discover this J5 Create 7 port USB3 hub has very poor ratings on Amazon. I was in a desperate urgent situation so I didn't get a chance to look at any reviews before buying this device recommended by a Best Buy sales man. Lesson learned - don't let the tyranny of the urgent force you in to making uninformed purchases. Best Buy strictly inforced their 15-day return policy not offering me any form of exchange or refund.

This thing is very tiny but the case is metal, the usb to computer cord is on one end which is a good place for it, the power plug is next to it. I have not heard of this company before, elite members get a little more time to return things if they're bad. I just set it up today, hooked my blue ray drive to it with no issues at least when reading disks that is haven't tried to burn yet. For those complaining about bus powered devices, simply don't do that folks, plug your high draw devices (like drives) into their own power. if yours didn't come with an ac adapter there are ways around that or just plug that item straight into the computer to avoid issues. I hope mine doesn't fail quickly if it does then I'll know to avoid this product. The usb to computer cable is longer than most products like this one come with. USB 3 is more demanding of quality hardware than usb 2 is/was and it's also a bit new so you may need to accept that there could be a few issues with it.

Coming from a flimsy 5-usb hub with a dangly, non-disconnectable usb cable, this was a major improvement. The main features that led me to this product were the sheer number of ports available. They are distanced apart enough that even two of the wider USB thumb drives can fit side-by-side. Since it connects with USB 3.0, I'm able to use that capability on my newer hard drives. Otherwise it performs just as it normally would for cheaper and older drives. May run into issues with too many wireless receivers plugged into it at once. Trying to use a wireless mouse, headset, and controller at the same time created minor input lag issues. The hub is powered, which can be great for using the usb to charge phones, headsets, and any other usb-chargeable devices even when the computer is off. It would be best to disconnect hard drives that would be receiving power while the computer is off so they aren't running constantly when you don't need them. Very happy with its functionality - no complaints so far.

I read numerous poor reviews about this product prior to buying. This was the only option my store had with more than 3 USB ports so I decided to try it. Perhaps I got lucky. The unit feels solidly built (has a nice weight to it). It has a fast charge port for my phone (which was one of my requirements) and the USB 3 standard speeds are met on every port. I have all my peripherals as well as two external hard drives attached and have had ZERO issues. The fast charge port is labeled to make sure you are using the correct port for fast charging (I noted this due to several people saying fast charging doesn't work). This is a powered unit so the amount of items plugged in DOES NOT MATTER. I love it and will buy another if needed.

I typically work on a laptop with 2 usb ports. I keep my mouse receiver plugged in at all times (it is so small, I don't want to lose it.) This leaves me with only one available port to use on my computer. This 7 port usb hub can handle any usb device in any of the ports. I actually returned one that I previously had because there was one port specifically designed for an external hard drive and the rest were for other things. It had a plug that was recommended to be plugged in when using. It was confusing and difficult to use. With this one. It is so easy. I don't have to worry about which port my external hard drive has to go in and I don't have to worry about having to plug anything up. It's small size allows it to be portable, yet it is still powerful. It is a lifesaver for me. I can charge my phone, when my battery is low as well as work on several other things without having to be forced to remove a device that I may or may not need at the moment. It is just so convenient.

This thing is straight up garbage. Do not get this thing if you have even one non powered portable hard drive that you want to connect. This thing will not power them. All it is good for is thumb drives and powered external drives. Who has 7 thumb drives they need to plug in at the same time? Not being able to use portable drives with a hub that is described by the manufacture as intended for "laptops and Macbooks", is disingenuous at best and a downright lie at worst. In short, stay away from this garbage. If you do buy this trash, make sure you save your receipt as Best Buy will not accept returns without a receipt and wont accept returns after 15 days.

Lag and dropped connections with keyboard dongles

    Posted
    Larry808

I use an HP wireless keyboard and Logitech wireless mouse, both of which require USB dongles, and this was one of the main reasons I bought this USB hub, since my laptop doesn't have enough USB ports. The HP dongle works only about 20% of the time through the hub, and the Logitech about 60-70% of the time, and other peripherals (eg Fujitsu scanner) also get dropped and require the hub to be unplugged from the USB port and replugged to restore connection. Even the disconnect/reconnect process doesn't restore the dongles a lot of the time. I've finally had to dedicate an on-board USB port on the laptop to the HP dongle because of the problems. I would not recommend this product, particularly if you need to run USB dongles through it.

Never worked right. I thought it might have been my devices, but on both a Mac and PC, various devices simply disconnect or aren't seen. Devices on PC are primarily peripherals such as joysticks, pedals, steering wheels, etc. I have barely used it; tried again recently with the hopes of it working, but now (on PC) I am getting messages that there's been a USB error and that the computer has to be restarted... WHAT? Went online hoping I might still be under warranty, but it was shelved for so long I forgot about it. I plugged in an old 4-port powered Belkin (without restarting anything) and it works perfectly. I'll likely never buy another product from this manufacturer.

Died after 1 year of use

My initial impressions of this hub were favorable. Its made of metal and has a power adapter. The USB 3.0 cable is included and is not something you need to purchase separately. However the item isn't a high quality item. The construction and appearance may fool you. Its another lower quality, cheaply made part that doesn't last long. I purchased this USB hub on June 2nd, 2016. On June 26th, 2017, the USB hub was completely dead. None of the ports worked or recognized anything plugged into the ports. Trying a different USB 3.0 cable between the hub and computer did not fix the problem. So, its obviously the hub that died. The hub died a little over 1 year after I purchased it, so the 1 year warranty already expired by a couple weeks. Therefore I'm out the that I paid for this hub. Its not worth the high price if it only lasts 1 year.

So I bought this to have a hub for my 4 external HDDs so I use them simultaneously with my laptop. I also use the powered plug to run my wireless mouse, which is great because that particular plug supplies power even when the laptop is off, allowing my mouse to charge when not in use. And the rounding out the last 2 plugs is my gaming headset. Works great. Except after ~2 weeks, the output USP port, the one that connects the hub and computer, is loose, every time it wobbles the whole thing disconnects, crashing the HDDs. Feels light and a little janky for $40 worth of USB hub too, in retrospect seems like a much cheaper product.

What I needed for my PS4 Pro, ext. drive, & PSVR

I got what I needed from this device. Although my PS4 Pro didn't accept my external drive through the HUB, at least the HUB only took one port as opposed to the the 4-HUB that takes 2 ports that you see in the PlayStation aisle. I use the optional power adapter so that one USB port from the HUB is a constant power source to power/charge a device. While my external hard drive is connected in one port on my PS4, the 7-HUB is connected to the other. Here's what I have on my HUB to show what works: 1) PS4 stand that charges Motion Controllers, 1 Dualshock Controller, and cooling fans, 2) PSVR version 2, 3) PlayStation Platinum Headset USB transponder. I have 4 free ports left. :)

    unusable power supply

im giving this one star because i just bought this, took it home, and discovered that the power supply is missing the male plugs, rendering the product completely useless. on the outside of the box it says the power supply is optional, which isnt true if you want to plug in an external drive, which is the only reason anyone would purchase this over a cheaper one. i called their customer service line twice, and both times i waited for 15 minutes before being passed off to an answering machine. still havent heard from anyone. i will be returning this product and recommending that everyone stay away from this company, including all you lovely people.

Have a USB 3.0 hub to plug into. Nice too. Now I set my laptop up and span my monitors into it via USB. I can plug in my back up drives, and my phone, and DVD player. Lots of uses for this thing. Very practical if you have a laptop for traveling (work) and want a traditional office monitor and like to spread out and not peck away on the keyboard of the laptop. Hubs are always an after thought but I am glad I thought this through before I brought the laptop home. 32 inch monitor in the corner, laptop 3 feet away so I can work on the wireless keyboard facing the screen while doing a VTC (video conf call) from my side. When I VTC, I face the laptop so I am dedicated to the customer. Overall good piece of gear for extra items (it has 7 ports).

Worst purchase in a very long time. This hub would cause I/O errors when I connected a 3 TB WD Passport hard drive which caused data loss. Also, when plugging in a drive in the port next to a port that already had a drive connected (so that would make only 2 drives connected to the hub) the hub would momentarily lose connectivity with my computer which would cause the operating system to think both drives had just been unplugged and plugged back in. Terrible! I went back to an Insignia 4 port usb3 powered hub and have no more I/O errors. With the 4 port Insignia everything works as expected.

This USB expansion dock has sure made things easier. My iMac does not have enough ports to run all of the peripherals I use so I was constantly swapping them out. With the J5Create USB hub, I have all the ports I need to download my camera, backup my hard drive, print, connect to the laptop and accommodate multiple flash drives. Plug and play right out of the box and The unit comes with power cord in case you need additional power for one of the drives but it also works well without it. Fast and easy. All this and it was on sale!

I bought this because I wanted to connect two external hard drives, and even though it is connected to a power source and there is one port for recharging devices. I cannot have the two hard drives at once, one is self powered and the other of course uses the USB Power but still they start to get disconnected, I'm still going to keep it but just because at the end It will replace a usb 2.0 hub, and it will use all the other ports just for the other stuff that I need to connect.I have another USB 3.0 in my mac that I will be connecting that SSD External Drive.

I purchased this hub to provide an easy-access place on my desk to plug in multiple USB devices. I have two minor criticisms about this device: 1) The included USB cable is too short to span the distance between my computer and the place where I wanted to set it — having to purchase a longer cable increased the overall amount I paid for the solution; 2) I wish the vendor provided a means to mount the unit vertically—double-sided tape works, but it doesn’t really provide a clean solution. Those two deficiencies knocked a star off from my rating, but otherwise the unit works perfectly for my needs.

I have had this USB hub for a few weeks and now its not working properly. My mouse and keyboard are intermittently working. Keys are acting stuck and will glitch out. Devices attached to the hub will cut in and out like they are getting unplugged. This thing is junk and Best Buy should stop stocking them. And the worst part is that the problems that other people and myself are seeing don't occur until after a few weeks. So good luck getting your money back for a $50 paper weight.

    Horrible USB Hub

A generic *tech USB hub is fair more reliable and robust than this expensive USB hub. This is now my second J5 USB hub which has failed, the first stopped working. The second J5 USB hub randomly disconnects devices. It is now past the return or exchange window for Best Buy, so I contacted J5 support. J5 support suggested I purchase a different USB hub. I will purchase a different USB hub from a different manufacturer! Save your money and purchase from a different manufacturer! My $15 USB from Startech has proven to be far better than this over priced desk weight.

Meets my needs for easily saving and copying documents while traveling. I travel frequently, using several different flash drives. This HUB makes it possible to work at each location, using the PCs readily available at my destinations (all trusted PCs), without having to carry a laptop. Once a week I make copies of my flash drives on other flash drives that I utilize as backups. This HUB make it possible to simultaneously utilize several flash drives and the backup versions. When I return home, I connect the HUB and the flashdrives to my permanent PC and copy over the needed documents.
