You need to make sure you take off any laptop case cover because it wouldn’t reach the connection to the laptop. Then if you move it a little same problem. I just had to return it and get something else

Posted .Needing to obtain Ethernet connectivity, along with video and USB ports for gadgets; a good device would be the JCD383 as it provides the user with even SD card reading and charging capabilities all in one. Connecting via a cable eliminates the need to have to remove a protective cover to get it working. Thanks for the review.

Very disappointing

It constantly would disconnect even though it was plugged in as it seemed to work itself loose. I called J5 customer service. They said it is a known problem and that I needed to use the side of my hand to push it in evenly. I did so and it was a little better, not much and still irritating. They I tried to use the card reader slot for the first time and I could not get any SD card to go in, of course trying both sides. That was the last straw. I returned it and bought a dock that has one USB-C plug on a short cable. Works like a charm.

Looked great. Problem was that when you disconnect it then reconnect it, It would start to display sometimes. Then you would have to keep unplugging and replugging it. LAME! So I will return it. No drivers for this model. No instructions on how to install the firmware update that they do have for it. Tech support was closed when I called on Sunday. Last time I buy from this company. Total hassle. I usually just pay more for a product that works the way it's supposed to. Took a chance with this one and now i have to go back to the store and deal with returning it, researching another one and making a new purchase. I should give it one star, after writing this.

USB port for MacBook Pro

It begins to feel a little awkward when using your laptop from your lap; stationary use on a desk is fine. This device does remain in place, but it's slightly thicker than my MacBook Pro so any uneven surface would cause it to move independent of the laptop.
