A terrible purchase, quickly replaced.

The first never connected with my laptop - I was told I hadn't pushed the connector hard enough. The second arrived - same thing. In order to connect to the computer (MacBook Pro), one must push the connector with such force that I was afraid that I would damage either the port or the j5. I called the mfg to hear that I hadn't been using enough force - then was also told to 'be careful' not to use too much force. Huh? I quickly sent the second j5 back in exchange for an Insignia - which works perfectly, with no force needed.

Posted .If the JCD382 is constantly dropping connection when in use, it is possible the USB-C connectors are loose and in that case we recommend exchanging the mini dock. Our devices are covered by a 2-year manufacturer warranty and if you are still within the exchange period, we would love to swap it for another one. I mistakenly thought that I would get what I paid for. One year later, and now I am back to using my low cost hub. This one is marginal at best. I never know whether it will work and it fails at the worst moments. It also gets displaced and I worry it will easily damage the port. I am extremely disappointed with this expensive hub.

Posted .Regarding bulkiness, we have other adapters that connect to the Mac via a host cable, eliminating the sizing being an obstruction. We are sorry to hear the JCD382 is not to your liking and wish to make it up by recommending a different adapter to better fit your needs. Devices such as the JCD383 for example, may better suit you due to it connecting via a host cable and therefore will make a more space-efficient gadget unlike the JCD382. Terrible Quality

The adapter itself took way too much effort to get connected to the computer. The USB did not line up to the ports and I had to force it into the computer. Then, once I did connect it, it would not properly read my external hard drives. It was completely frustrating and I ended up returning the adapter as well as the computer.

Not certain why it did that, but I'm glad it only cost the time it took to return my damaged computer and all of my worldly possession burnt to a crisp in a smoldering pile of what once my lovely home. Yikes! Hard pass on this product people.
