Posted .Proper functionality entails downloading and installing a driver on a Windows or Mac platform. Depending on the OS you have, different instructions apply. Once installation is completed, connect the Ethernet Adapter to your computer and Ethernet cable to a modem or router. Open Network settings and located USB AX88179 and connect. You can also try Power Cycling Your Network Devices. Shutdown all computers connected to the modem/router. Power down and unplug the modem and the router if you're using one. Allow to sit for 60 seconds unplugged. Plug in and turn on the modem and router, and allow them to completely boot up until the front panel connection lights on the modem show a steady connection. Also check for updates on your computer through your manufacture's website. (Computer brand)

Posted .Please install the driver through our website under Support. Once installation has been completed and computer has restarted. Connect the Ethernet adapter and an Ethernet cable to a modem or router. Go to your Network setting, click on AX88179 and make sure there is an IP Address attached. If no IP, try a different Ethernet port somewhere if possible or even restarting the network if possible as well.

ASIX USB to Gigabit Ethernet Fanily Adapter 3.0

However I have not looked into the security aspect of the device specifically when using it my computer displays the device name as a family adapter so not sure what that refers to for the device itself but otherwise it works like a normal one for connecting to network wired

Was plug and play on Windows 10 and a 2.0 USB port. Installed this USB adapter and cable before turning on the computer. When Windows 10 loaded internet was up, automatically detected the USB to Ethernet Adapter. Feels just as fast as the MB controller. Very happy with purchase.

However, it was recommended to download the driver for USB 3.0, gigabit eternet so I did. I am happy for the performance but I think the bottleneck for me is router and up. It is good enough for what I do now.

I had to return a different one I bought there cause in did not say on the box it needed windows 10 only in the instructions. This one works with win 7 and up. Like other said I'm not sure it does the gig speed but might be a limitation of my desktop. I am using it in a 3.0 socket. It's plenty fast.

I bought this for my husband because he uses my new laptop to do his podcasts with friends. The new laptops don't have ethernet connection bays and our internet and WIFI in our house is poor at best in the room where he does his podcast (even with an extender). This has been a game changer! Who knew something so simple would work so well. No more frustration with spotty internet.
