Old USB to Ethernet crossover died and this was going to be my replacement. However it will not install as a COMM device so if that is what you were going to buy it for then steer clear. Otherwise it did install easily and did work (I tried it out) but it is ultimately not what I was needing.

April 2023 DOES NOT WORK w/ MAC BIG SUR
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did not work for me at all. It actually made my internet connection SLOWER THAN BEFORE INSTALL. Note if you can't get your mac to recognize the device in Network settings, search your computer for the USB Ethernet App and open it... if your mac is blocking the app, you'll get a message, and you can go to Preferences>Security and 'allow' it to open. Then the device should immediately show in your Networks interface list. Doing this I was able to finally get it recognized, but after many different configurations, the speed was terrible. 80mbs when I had been getting 140mbs prior to installing the adapter. I first connected it to my eero mesh unit, then directly to my eero router, then directly to my Greenlight modem. All results were the same. I tried adjusting other settings, per youtube videos' recommendation. Nothing. I chatted the company for support and after an initial answer, the chat wait time became ridiculous and the chat eventually ended due to non-engagement by their customer rep. Big waste of time for me. Disappointed I ran all the way out to BestBuy for this piece of garbage.

Posted .You could try a few troubleshooting such as resetting the networking hardware, i.e. power-cycle the modem, router. - Power-off your networking hardware for approximately 30 seconds then power it back on. Cross-test the device with another Ethernet cable, or connect the Ethernet cable into another RJ45 port on the networking hardware. Renew the DHCP lease. And reconfigure Firewall preferences. In the Network setting you should see "AX88179 USB3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet" or "10/100/1000" device list there. If not you may need to try to add the network adapter manually. Please be aware, if you are trying to connect to a private work-place or school-campus network, you may need to contact the network administrator for further assistance. ** Feel free to contact j5create Technical Support if you require further assistance. Does not work well on Macbook Air

Secondly, I didn't like how you had to install a driver with it. I had to consistently bend the adapter at an angle for it to say that it was connected to my mcb air. It consistently would say cable unplugged the entire time even though it was plugged in. I had to buy a different ethernet adapter from my school's bookstore. The one I bought from the school book store is super fast and responsive. This product is really a piece of junk.

It is pretty good sometimes

Doesn't work with Mac.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hey hey, just spent more than a couple hours with support people from this company, shutting my computer down multiple times, receiving false information, and being given sketchy downloads for drivers that didn't work. Don't waste your time with this product if you are apple native, go find something better that is supported.

Sadly, it failed

Not sure why, but it was a frustrating experience. I could have purchased a less expensive item, but chose this one as it was recommended to me. Sad. But life goes on, once the defect was ascertained we just moved on to purchasing a new competitors item.

Now my Mac will not boot

I hate products that are not plug and play, but I did as the instructions said. I had no internet access to check more on line. After I installed the software I rebooted as instructed and the reboot froze. I called technical support and they had me run first aid from cmd-r boot. Then it still did not work and he said guesse you should call apple. I said it work before you had me install this defective software. He said I guess that I’d why Apple does not like 3rd party software. I said and your defective software proves your comment. Never use this Product on a Mac and Best Buy should not sell it as a Mac product. Support just wanted to flush me over to apple. This company is a disgrace. I will now attempt a restore and hope it works. Once again I am disgusted by this company!!!
