I needed something for work occasionally as well as my personal laptop which does not have a standard Ethernet port. I had another device like this one that I bought online, but my work laptop was not able to even detect that adapter was plugged in.

I wondered if this would slow my internet down . . . using this . . . it doesn't. My ethernet cable does come out of this on its own but only if the cable is moved around. One thing to note here . . . if you are pressed for USB Type A ports AND are missing a ethernet port you may want to buy a USB Type A hub that has several USB Type A ports as well as a ethernet port in/on it. They do exist.
