Excellent Product: Solid Build and Performance

This is the second J5Create product I've purchased for my notebook and both are excellent. This adapter was a breeze to set up and it works flawlessly. I am very impressed with the image quality it produces on my HDTVs; there have been no signal interference or dropouts. I now have a reliable adapter for my travels and believe it will work perfectly whenever I want to use it. I am quite sure I could have purchased some other adapter for less but I'm quite impressed and totally satisfied with the J5Create products. I think that the company makes well-built, solid electronic accessories and I highly recommend this adapter--it is a great performer.

    Incompatible with Mac

I can't provide an actual review of the product because I never got a chance to use it. I picked it up at Best Buy where the staff assured me that the product would work after I told them that I had a Mac OS 10.6. It wasn't until we took the product home and opened the box that we found a card from j5 create that said: "Windows XP and Mac OS 10.6/10.7 are not supported on this 2017 version. If you require a compatibility with Windows XP or Mac OS 10.6/10.7 we will be happy to exchange your 2017 version with our previous version while supplies last" To top it off I noticed that the back of the box even stated that it supports Mac OS 10.8 or later. I still haven't decided whether to exchange it with j5create or return it at Best Buy but this is just a heads up for Mac users. If only I saw a review like mine before purchasing.

    Good for general computing but....

Driver is needed for both PC and MAC. Don't use the included CD, go to manufacturers website. Will not play full 1080p to connected display without lag or random artifacts. Lowering 2nd screen resolution, playing lower res videos or turning off laptop's internal monitor helps but not ideal depending on your use.

    Easy setup

I needed to have a 3rd monitor for my work. My work laptop only has USB connections. I used a basic flat screen TV (no smart tv) with the HDMI ports. So this USB to HDMI adapter works perfect. I was concerned if the CD had bloatware like most printer installation CD. In my work I cannot download or have search browsers added to my computer. The CD did not have those extras.I now have 3 external monitors and I keep my laptop closed.

Cannot get this to work with Mac 10.13...

I purchased this to run a third external monitor on my mid-2014 MacBook Pro Retina 15", but unfortunately it does not appear to work with Mac OS 10.13 (High Sierra). I installed the drivers first, following the instructions exactly as listed. When I plugged the device in, I could see a green LED inside lit up, so I know the device is getting power from my Mac, but unfortunately there's no signal that gets sent to the monitor. When first plugged in, the monitor lights up as if it's starting to get a signal, but then comes up "No Signal" and goes dark again. I can't even see the monitor in the "Displays" setting, so the OS isn't even identifying that a display was plugged in. Tried a reboot too, just in case, but that didn't work. I'll definitely be returning this one since it just outright doesn't work.

Definitely passes the video through and serves its purpose. Though, I have noticed some flickering going on. Maybe a firmware upgrade is in order. Other than that, not bad for the price point.

There's serious lag between the monitor and my Mac Mini Late 2014 using this device. I've attempted to install/uninstall the drivers twice and still have not received a positive outcome.

this thing works great! I was skeptical at first. Pro: Small, Plug and play, auto detect resolutions. Con: uses computers cpu and memory for video processing. if your computer is under heavy load expect the video quality to reduce.

Only gave it 3 stars because it was expensive, but it did do what it claimed to do in allowing me to use dual monitors

Doesn't Work with Mac Mini and OSX Mavericks

I was looking to set up a third monitor for my home setup, and this product seemed to be promising. Current Home Setup: - Late 2012 Mac Mini - Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display - (2) 24" 1080P HDMI Monitors (1 Connected with HDMI on Mac Mini) I found this product online, and looked to work for others in the same scenario. When i got this home, i installed the drivers (as warned and stated numerous times in the packaging) before connecting the device and the monitor to the Mac Mini. After restarting the Mac Mini, i connected the j5Create device to the HDMI Monitor and then to the USB 3.0 port on the back of the Mac. The display lit up and stayed black with no background or title bar. I could move my mouse over to the screen and see the cursor, but that was it. I emailed and called j5Create tech support for help with this issue. They helped me uninstall the two files the package installed, and reinstall the drivers again. After another couple of restarts, the same results. Come to find out they do not have drivers for OS X Mavericks as of now (9/30/2014) and is in the works with no ETA. That said, hopefully they can release these drivers and drivers for Yosemite coming out next month. I did offer up testing for a Beta driver set, or to work with the engineering team during the QA phase of the release. I was basically shot down with a product that is DOA. Its unfortunate as this could be a great product, but the customer service and tech support at j5Create is a little disappointing. Bottom line, at this point, the product does not work as intended and in the environment that i have.

    Terrible dongle for MacBookPro

I had another dongle which I lost, unfortunately. I bought this because it looked like it might be better. It has been extremely unreliable. Has issues staying connected, both to my MacBook and to the USB-C power supply. After the latest macOS update to 10.15.4 it appears to have been bricked, which just pushes up me needing to get a replacement. I will not be purchasing another j5 for the foreseeable future.

    Windows 10 Driver Issue

This Unit works great however, after the driver was installed I had issues with some of the Windows 10 installed apps stopped working. Maps and Photos in particular. I installed the drivers from the website first and then uninstalled those and the apps worked again. I let Windows 10 install the drivers and had the same problem. I uninstalled them and everything worked correctly again. I could not find any solutions to this issue either from the manufacture website or anywhere else online. I will have return this adapter and try a different brand then see what happens.

    Does Not Support APPLE

This worked for about a week, and then stopped working on my Mac. Then I find on their site they know about the fact it does not work with Mac and offer no other solution that, "sorry our product is garbage." Way better products out there. So disappointed as our company was going to standardize under J5, but now back to the drawing board.
