Mac M2 + This Dock = Therapy Needed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Product Review: j5create USB-C Triple Display Docking Station (Model: JCD3199) Rating: 1 out of 5 stars System: MacBook Pro M2 (Sonoma) DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU’RE A MAC USER. Especially not with an M2 chip. I bought this docking station because it claimed to support multiple displays for Mac, which is notoriously limited by macOS’s native display constraints. The idea of plug and play was appealing. The reality? A complete nightmare. Setup is a Joke Out of the box, setup was painful. macOS doesn’t support MST (Multi-Stream Transport), so it requires DisplayLink drivers just to enable more than one external display. That’s fine in theory but the DisplayLink drivers for macOS are unreliable, and on M2 chips? Even worse. Expect to spend hours troubleshooting screen detection, flickering issues, and sound routing problems. Every time I rebooted, I’d have to unplug and replug everything like I was trying to hotwire a car just to get monitors to fire up. Sometimes the dock wouldn’t recognize the external displays unless I did a full SMC and NVRAM reset. That’s not “plug and play” that’s borderline hardware necromancy. Worked for 4 Months… Then Died After about four months, the dock completely crapped out. One day it just stopped supplying power to my MacBook, even though the power indicator was lit and nothing had changed in my setup. Monitors went dark. USB ports stopped responding. It went from finicky to non functional paperweight overnight. No firmware updates helped. No resets. Nothing. I tried other USB-C cables, other outlets, even bypassed the power adapter. Nada. It was drawing just enough juice to look like it was alive but not enough to power or charge the Mac, making it worse than dead a ghost device that fools you into wasting more time. Known Issues That j5create Doesn’t Warn You About • M2 compatibility is sketchy. These newer Apple Silicon Macs have quirks with external display handling, and j5create’s firmware clearly hasn’t caught up. • No native macOS support for MST means all multiple display claims are through kludgy workarounds. • DisplayLink drivers are unstable, often break after macOS updates, and are not optimized for Apple Silicon, despite what they claim. • Power passthrough is inconsistent. Even when it worked, the dock was underpowered, sometimes barely keeping up with battery drain. Bottom Line: This product is not future proof, not stable, not worth your money. It might work out of the box (if you’re lucky), but long term, you’re buying yourself a pile of support headaches. Mac users especially M1 and M2 users should look elsewhere. CalDigit, Anker, or even HyperDrive have much more reliable Mac compatible docks. j5create clearly hasn’t optimized this for Apple Silicon, and their support is unresponsive once things go south. I wouldn’t trust this with a Raspberry Pi, much less a $2,000+ MacBook Pro. Hard pass.

Posted .Thank you for sharing your experience. We’d like to clarify an important point regarding the j5create JCD3199 Dock and macOS compatibility.
Unlike many other docking stations, the JCD3199 does not rely on DisplayLink drivers for multiple external display support on Macs. Instead, it uses j5create’s proprietary MCT (Multi-Channel Transport) drivers, which are designed specifically to enable dual 4K HDMI output on macOS without the need for DisplayLink.
We understand macOS’s limitations with multiple external monitors, especially on M1 and M2 chips, can still create challenges. While the MCT drivers aim to offer smoother and more stable multi-display support compared to DisplayLink solutions, some compatibility quirks can remain due to Apple’s native system restrictions and evolving macOS updates.
If you have experienced issues with screen detection, flickering, or sound routing, please ensure you have the latest version of the MCT drivers installed from our official website. We also recommend keeping macOS updated, as compatibility improves over time.
For power delivery and hardware functionality concerns, verifying cable quality and connections can help, and if problems persist, our support team is ready to assist with troubleshooting or warranty service.
We appreciate your feedback and are committed to improving your experience with our products.
Thank you for your understanding.

It works fine for what I needed but issues remain
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything works as advertised. However I have three complaints. 1) This product is not plug and play. I need this for work and my company like many others will not let us download 3rd party drivers. After many discussions with IT we got it to work. 2). The laptop charing is not optimal. 100W may seem fast but my laptop advises each time that charging is not optimal and a power error appears.(it does charge just slowly) 3) does not come with own power supply.

Posted .All the ports are Plug n Play, except for the 4K30 HDMI port, which will require an installation of a driver. This device supports 140W, however, the power-in port for pass-through charge supports up to 100W to a laptop and the additional 40W provides additional power to the wireless charging and USB ports at the same time.
As for using a work computer, you will have to contact your IT department in order to see if they will allow you to install the software, if you do not have administrative privileges.
Note: If the computer has network access and administrative rights, Windows can automatically install the driver when the device is plugged in.

MacBook Air 2nd screen hack- good but not perfect!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great tool to add a 2nd monitor to my Macbook Air. The driver is imperfect and the 2nd monitor has limited functionality (can't rotate, screenshotting doesn't show a tooltip, and it's messing with my ability to share an entire window in a meeting) but it's better than not having a 2nd monitor. Also an expensive power brick is required, it doesn't work as a charger with my lower wattage brick but does with the 90W one. Not a perfect solution but overall has been a boon to my productivity. It seems pretty pricey for the software to be as buggy as it is. Setup was multiple steps and I had to follow the directions carefully (it's not plug and play) but it works and I'm loving having multiple monitors.

No Charger cable????
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What kind of product has two different specs that only one comes with a power cord and the other doesn't? Even though there is ABSOLUTELY no difference between the two EXCEPT one is lacking a charging cable. And why isn't that CLEARLY stated on the packaging so you don't have to find out until after you've purchased it, gotten home, and opened the box for a little notation to say that the charger only comes with the JCD1399P model????? Waste of time. Returning.

Posted .Unplug everything from the dock, including HDMI cables, USB-C, and power.
Reconnect firmly: Start with the power adapter → HDMI cables → USB-C to laptop.
Try different HDMI cables or swap the cables between the two ports.
Make sure your laptop’s USB-C port drivers and BIOS are up to date.
Uninstall and reinstall drivers by visiting j5create website.
Try with another USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode compatible laptop to rule out a hardware failure.
