Because of this high level of functionality in a compact design, it's normal for the unit to generate heat during use. The outer aluminum casing is intended to act as a heat sink to dissipate heat more efficiently, which can sometimes make it feel warmer to the touch.

Multi Adapter for MS Surface Pro

They work fine plugged in to a normal port or a different hub. It's intermittent so hard to pin down but I avoid using it it. Super overpriced too.
